MATAT TAXI DRIVER ARRESTED FOR MURDER

A Matatiele taxi driver has been arrested for a murder related case on Saturday afternoon. It is said that the arrested taxi driver is linked to a death of young man alleged to have been beaten to death by a group of people.

Reports said three young man (amaphara) who are accused of stealing from the community were fetched from their different homes at Harry Gwala Park in Matatiele on the same day.

They were all taken to Drakensburg Taxi Rank Offices and were allegedly beaten with sjamboks. Police were alerted about the incident and they surrounded the offices.

Police found the three men lying on the floor grumbling with pains. Their bodies were full of wounds and bruises from sjamboks. One men died on the scene while the other two were taken by an Ambulance to Tayler Bequest hospital. Police have confiscated more than ten sjamboks from these offices.

The arrested taxi driver is reported to have been driving one of the taxis that was fetching these young men from their homes. Police are saying that they are looking for more people who are linked to this incident.

This incident happens at a time when communities are fed up with crimes committed by amaphara in their residential areas. They have grouped themselves to crime fighting forces and have named themselves to Operation Dudula.

They are conducting raids and have successfully recovered a number of stolen goods. Goods include Television sets, blankets, shoes, tires and many other things.

The leader of Operation Dudula in Matatiele Mzwakhe Pauleni have denied their involvement in the Saturday incident.

"We were not working on this day so we don't know who killed these young men. We don't kill we take the culprits to the police", Pauleni said.

Workers of Matatiele Local Municipality might not enter their offices to work this morning as gates entering these offices are blocked withi cars by local contractors and SMMEs this morning.

They are demanding the Municipality to stop giving jobs to service providers from outside.

Police are in the scene to monitor the situation.

MATATIELE OFFICER GRANTED BAIL

The Matatiele Magistrate Court has on Tuesday granted bail to the a local police officer who is facing charges of corruption. Detective Sergent Kanelo Selela 37 appeared before the Matatiele magistrate court on Tuesday for charges of trying to solicit a bribe. He was granted a bail of R1000.00 and the case was remanded for further investigations.
Sgt Selela was arrested for corruption after he allegedly requested a bribe to release an impounded vehicle. The vehicle was impounded on 8 April, after it was deemed to be instrumental in the commission of a crime.

The vehicle owner was arrested by the Matatiele police dog unit after being suspected of transporting drugs.

The accused person is reported to have appeared before the Magistrate Court of Matatiele and was released on R5000 bail.
After his release the accused is alleged to have gone to the police station to enquire about his vehicle.

The vehicle owner was referred to the Investigating Officer, a 37 year old Sargent Selela, who allegedly told him to organise a sum of R2000 to get his vehicle back.

The matter was reported to the Mbizana Serious Corruption Investigating team for investigation which resulted in Sgt Selela being arrested.
Sgt Selela will be back in court on the 26 of May 2022.

Hawkes spokesperson Yolisa Mgolodela described the charges as very serious and can have a negative repercussions on Sgt Selela ‘s future.
“This was not a mistake, it was a planned action by the officer of the law”, said Mgolodela. Meanwhile Eastern Cape Police Spokesperson Brigadier Kinana said, they will wait for an official report from the Hawkes before disciplinary action kicks in.

ROUNDS OF AMMUNITIONS FOUND AT MURDER ACCUSED HOME

More than 50 rounds of ammunition are some of the things discovered by police at the home of the murder accused, m whom police describe as drug lord in the Maluti area. Lechamochamo appeared before the magistrate court of Maluti on Tuesday facing charges of kidnaping and murder.

Her case was remanded to the 26 of April for bail application.
Lechamochamo is accused of kidnapping and killing a 22 year man who was assisting her in distributing drugs.

According to police Lechamochamo allegedly killed this man because he misused drugs that he was suppose to sell.

The man disappeared from his home at area c in December 2021 and was reported to police as a missing person. On Investigations police have established that the man was murdered. The murdered is linked to Lechamochamo.

Matatiele Police Officer to appear for trying to solicit bribe

MATATIELE: A Police Officer in Matatiele is expected to appear before the magistrate court here on Tuesday morning for trying to solicit bribe. Police in Matatiele have arrested a 42 year old woman who they describe as drug lord in the Maluti area over the Easter week end.

According to police the woman is accused of kidnapping and murder. It is alleged that the woman has murdered a 22 year old man who was assiting her in distributing drugs.

The man dissappeared from his home at Area C in December last year. He was reported to police as a missing person.

On investigation police have established that the man was murdered. His body's where about is not known. The woman is appearing before the Matatiele magistrate court on Tuesday.

Graduates and current students of the University of Walter Sisulu University (WSU) may be enrolled or acquired bogus qualifications.

Students in the institution may have been enrolled in courses that are allegedly not registered or accredited by the Council on Higher Education.

According to DispatchLIVE, despite the fact that their programs were identified as “questionable and not in good standing”, ” by the university’s registrar, students were allowed to graduate.

WSU offered a total of 28 programs, including master’s degrees for medical professionals, that are allegedly unregistered or unaccredited.

According to an internal letter to the university’s leadership that was leaked to Daily Dispatch, 2,080 students graduated from non-accredited programs between 2019 and 2021.

During the same time period, there are additional 7,637 students who are suspected to have enrolled in non-accredited programs at the university.

DispatchLIVE also revealed that in October 2021, the university’s registrar recommended in an internal e-mail that 12 postgraduate students should not be allowed to graduate because of the non-compliant status of their programmes. The programmes were:

• the advanced diploma in internal auditing (two students) offered on the Butterworth campus;
• bachelor of science honours in zoology (five students) offered in Mthatha;
• master of medicine in anaesthesiology (two students) offered in Mthatha; and
• master of medicine in obstetrics and gynaecology (three students) also offered in Mthatha.

NEWS JUST IN: Dearth toll in a bus and fuel tanker accident has increased to four. According to Eastern Cape Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose two more bodies have been found when the bus was removed from the scene of the accident. Amongst the bodies found was that of an assistant bus driver.

2 people confirmed dead in a fuel tanker and bus accident.

At least 2 people are confirmed dead in an accident involving a fuel tanker and one of the long distance buses. Spokesperson Unathi Binqose says the accident occurred at about 09H20 on Sunday morning on the N2 road near Kwelera between East London and Kei Bridge.

He said a bus with passengers heading towards East London collided with a fuel tanker travelling the opposite direction.

The tanker caught fire after the crash.
2 were declared dead on the scene while others sustained injuries.
Search, rescue and recovery personnel remain on the scene to check if there aren’t any more survivors, trapped in the wreckage or anything else they may have missed.

The circumstances surrounded the cause of accident is still unknown as scene still under investigations.

The injured, transported to Frere Hospital.

Eastern Cape Police are looking for a 25-year-old woman who allegedly burnt to the ground shacks and cars after a fight with a lover. Äccording to reports, on the evening of 12 March 2022, the complainant, 25, and his girlfriend had an argument where she allegedly threatened to burn down his shack at Rolihlahla squatter camp. The complainant ignored the threat and went to a nearby tavern with friends. At about 1:30 this morning, he was informed that his shack was alight. The fire spread to four other shacks. All the shacks were completely gutted. Three vehicles that were in the complainant’s yard were also burnt.
