Our hours in the bush final pays off with this incredible sighting of this female leopard, we spotted her sitting in a tree just as the rain stopped, she climbed down and disappeared in the thick bush, her camouflage quickly concealing her. Just a few moments later she appeared just behind us on the road and we quickly turned around and watched her make her way down the road stopping briefly then backing up backwards into the bushes raising her tail and marking her territory, a common occurrence by territorial animals after rain as it washes away their scent markings. It Truly was a great encounter.

This little Barn Swallow is a migratory bird coming all the way from the United Kingdom to spend the summer months in South Africa, an incredible 9656km journey, they can travel up to 320km per day which is astonishing for a little bird that only weighs between 17 - 20 grams.

This is definitely a moment that would stay with me forever. It's just amazing how our trainer could read this bull elephant's behaviour and allowing him to get so close to us, it's truly a skill set I'm so excited to learn about and maybe one day I could share such a magnificent moment with guests, safely and responsible.

Golden orb-web spider

Here we have a beautiful example of the female and male Golden orb-web spider, the male can be 100 times smaller than the female and he lives cautious on the outskirts of the females web, waiting for his opportunity to mate with her.
Here we can see that he waits patiently for her to start feeding before attempting to mate as with most spiders can be fatal for the male.

We found this awesome little guy, the Flap-neck chameleon, did you know that their eyes can me over independently, giving them a 360 degree view to help search for prey and then focus them together to gauge depth to focus on their prey and deploy their long sticky tongue

Exciting times lie ahead, and an excellent opportunity has been given to us. So it's time now to rebrand Bauers Odyssey so that we will be able to share with you our journey. Let's just say that we are finally able to live our dream and become closer to the African bush. All I'm going to say is that starting in January there is going to be a tough road ahead but the end result will be so worth it....
