CITY OF MBOMBELA WORLD AIDS DAY COMMEMORATION.

06 December 2024

The Executive Mayor of the City of Mbombela Honourable Cllr Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko hosted the municipal World AIDS Day commemoration at the Southern region, Umjindi today.

The Executive Mayor was flanked by Members of the mayoral committee, distinguished honourable Councillors, Department of Health, Department of Correctional Services, SANDF, Traditional Leaders, Members of the Mpumalanga Provincial AIDS Council (MPAC) and various Non Governmental Organisations in action to redress all HIV & AIDS related societal trends and issues.

In her address Makushe- Mazibuko emphatically stated that albeit the prevalence of progressive programs and medical interventions our people still need to be thoroughly educated on the various interlinked social problems associated with HIV & AIDS as there seems to be a regression noted by the government of the day which directly impacts government’s ambition of reaching a zero percent infection rate. This is due to the seemingly growing number of new infections recorded predominantly amongst young people.

She further said that today’s commemoration should serve as a starting & turning point for the municipality and its people to realise a zero percent infection rate in all communities surrounding and comprising the city.

The commemoration also saw multiple essential stakeholders undertaking to join hands with the city to help it realise this vision.

CITY OF MBOMBELA ENCOURAGES ALL SPAZA SHOP OWNERS TO REGISTER THEIR BUSINESSES.

MBOMBELA - The City of Mbombela Municipality continues to encourage active citizenry in the registration of businesses dealing with perishable foods within the jurisdiction of the City.

This is in line with the Business Act 2 of 1996, schedule 1.

Just more than five-hundred Spaza shop owners have come forward to register their businesses in all the 45 Wards of the City albeit the high number of shops in the communities where our people live.

The City spokesperson, Joseph Ngala says " It is worrying that out of the more than five hundred applicants, only 10% of them are South African citizens and the rest are in their majority, Asylum seekers."

Ngala further laments that "All traditional leaders in the form of Chieftancies, Tindvuna, Religious leaders Bafundisi bemabandla and all civic organisations must play an active role and advocate for the registration of these local businesses in the municipality to assist in enforcing compliance, safety measures and sustainable livelihoods for our children and residents."

The entire country is grappled with many food poisoning cases that have led to deaths and a high number of school children being admitted to hospital in the past three months.

All City of Mbombela municipal service centers such as Kabokweni, White River, Hazyview, Barberton, Kanyamazane and Mbombela will now be utilized in accepting applications.

And all Spaza shop owners are given until the 14th of December to register their businesses with the City of Mbombela municipality or face the full might of the law.

CITY ROUNDS UP UNSCRUPULOUS ROLEPLATERS IN THE INFORMAL SECTOR

The City of Mbombela, for its Mandela Month programme, has just completed a week-long city wide clean-up campaign.

The campaign included the cleaning up of the inner city business hub and streets.

The aim of the campaign was to clean up the informal economic sector operating within the vacinity of the city from illegal elements such as:
• Unlicensed street vendors.
• Illegal goods and contraband.
• Contravention of health and safety regulations in terms of food storage and handling.
• Confiscating expired goods.
• Removal of all waste.

This cleanup ensured the safety of buyers and sellers within the informal sector by ensuring the safety of all role players according to the promulgated Bylaws of the City. The Ehlanzeni District Muncipality was also a part of the campgain with their health and safety inspectors, ensuring that all expired goods are confiscated from establiahments selling to the public.

An illegal storage facility was also found, which was used as a store house for illegal illicit goods of non permit holders.

The city views this week-long campaign as a huge success and further warns repeat transgressors that they run the risk of forfeiting their permits and removed if found to be on the wrong side of law again.

THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF CITY OF MBOMBELA HANDS OVER COMPLETED PROJECTS IN THE NORTHERN REGION OF THE CITY.

23 April 2024

The Executive head of service delivery, Honorable Cllr Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko today handed over three completed projects respectively around ward 8 and 9 of the hazyview region, north of the City.

Completed projects included a state of the art community hall and foot bridge at ward 8 and another foot bridge at ward 9.

The handover of projects emanates from the service delivery enhancement program which the Mayor hatched last year and coined the service delivery Mayoral Imbizo. The Mayoral Imbizo enhanced service delivery enormously and as a result the City is ready to handover quite a number of projects from this month until the mid year Makushe insisted. However emphasis was placed to the residents by the Mayor that the ongoing service delivery drive which started on the 11th of March to date is rather an amplification of her Mayoral Imbizo that has ensured all 45 wards of the City are contracted and giving birth to service delivery simultaneously as opposed to the previous make up of setting alight service delivery enhancement for two weeks.

The Mayor also placed it ok record that these service delivery gains are as a result of the continuous increase of harmonious working relations between the City and residents. And as such residents are encouraged to be part of the municipal complementary guardsmen who play an active role in safeguarding municipal infrastructure for the full and undisturbed enjoyment of services brought in and around the community by the Municipality.

The Executive Mayor was flanked by members of the Mayoral Committee, various ward counciors and senior municipal officials.
