Today, I want to talk about a crisis that affects us all, regardless of our gender, race, or socioeconomic status. Gender-based violence is a pandemic that has plagued our society for far too long.
Gender-based violence is not just a women's issue; it's a human rights issue. It's a problem that affects men, women, children, and the elderly. It's a problem that affects people of all backgrounds and identities.
But make no mistake, gender-based violence disproportionately affects women and girls. They are more likely to be victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and harassment. They are more likely to be marginalized, excluded, and silenced.
We need to acknowledge the root causes of gender-based violence. We need to recognize that it's not just about individual perpetrators, but about a society that perpetuates inequality, patriarchy, and sexism.
We need to challenge our attitudes and beliefs. We need to recognize that gender-based violence is not just a private matter, but a public issue that requires a public response.
So, what can we do? We can start by listening to survivors, believing them, and supporting them. We can work to create safe spaces, free from violence and harassment.
We can advocate for policies and laws that protect women's rights and prevent gender-based violence. We can educate ourselves and others about the causes and consequences of gender-based violence.
Most importantly, we need to take action. We need to hold perpetrators accountable, provide support to survivors, and work towards creating a society that values equality, justice, and human rights.
Let us join forces to end gender-based violence. Let us create a world where everyone can live free from fear, violence, and discrimination.
Ladies and gentlemen i am Litricia Mokoena and i advocate for Gender Based Violence
