Have you updated your electricity meter?
PREPAID METER TID ROLLOVER DEADLINE LOOMING
Acting Knysna Municipal Manager Setloane Malepeng said that the municipality is wrapping up the process of updating the software for prepaid meters as part of the national Token Identifier (TID) rollover. “All consumers are reminded that this update must be completed by the deadline of 24 November 2024 to prevent disruptions to their supply,” he said.
To recode your meter, follow these three simple steps:
First enter the first 20-digit recode token.
Next enter the second 20-digit recode token.
Finally enter the 20-digit purchased token to recharge your meter.
“Consumers are urged to take the necessary steps to ensure their meters are updated by the deadline,” Malepeng reminded residents. “It is crucial to load all current tokens before the update, as no refunds will be issued for unused tokens. If your meter has not been updated, please contact the electricity department before close of business on Friday 22 November.”
“We have encountered a technical issue affecting fewer than 80 Plessey electricity meters, which are unable to accept the necessary upgrade,” he explained. “Affected consumers are advised to load additional units immediately to ensure they have sufficient supply until their meters can be replaced. For those for whom this is not a feasible option, a conventional meter will be installed at no cost to the consumer.”
“The upgrade process should proceed as planned in all other cases,” Malepeng concluded. “Consumers who need assistance, or are unsure of how to update their meters, are encouraged to promptly contact the electricity department at 044 302 6397 or 044 302 6399 for assistance.
“This is an essential update, and we urge all residents to act quickly to ensure uninterrupted electricity service. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.”
To check if your prepaid meter is updated, enter the following code on your meter’s keypad: 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416. If the screen displays a 2 or 2.2, your meter has already been upgraded. If your screen displays a 1 or 1.1, your meter must still be upgraded.
