All five district municipalities in the Northern Cape attained a Matric pass rate of over 80% for the class of 2024. Northern Cape Premier, Dr Zamani Saul has paid tribute to the collective efforts of teachers, schools management, parents, learners and principals following an improvement of 8.4% in the 2024 Matric results. The Northern Cape achieved an 84.2% Matric pass rate in 2024, up from 75.8% in 2023.

The Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul has vowed that the province will build up on the current percentage of 84.2 percent in 2025. He said the province has set its target of 90 percent for 2025 matric results. The province received congratulatory message from the national government after it moved from 75.8 percent in 2023.

This comes after the accused's bail application was postponed again by the Kimberley Magistrate's Court. The pair face several charges that include murder and attempted murder.

The lawyer representing the former acting magistrate at Kimberley Magistrate's Court, advocate Celeste Nameka and her 67-year-old father, Clive Ferris says the State is prejudicing his clients with many postponements. This comes after the bail application postponement to Tuesday in the Kimberley Magistrate's court. The two are charged with the murder of 56-year-old Charmaine Anthony in December last year.

Anthony's son was injured during the domestic dispute. Anthony was allegedly shot by Ferris. Nameka and her father are charged with murder, attempted murder and assault with an intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

Northern Cape police say King Khoisan SA is recovering well at the Manne Dipico at Colesberg, following a crash on the N9 on Friday. His wife, Queen Khoisan, also known as Doris Triegaardt died in the crash, believed to be a result of a burst tyre. The couple were on their way from their home in Gqeberha to the Union buildings where King Khoi-San was facing an eviction order. He and others have been camping on the lawn of the nation's administrative capital for more than seven years to demand recognition for the Khoi and San communities.

A Kimberley-based sangoma and general secretary for the association of traditional healers in South Africa staged a two-day celebration to mark his journey as a traditional healer for the past three decades. The sangoma says he wanted the celebration to coincide with the country marking 30 years of democracy. He says the democracy attained in 1994 has made it possible for traditional healers to work freely and gain recognition.

Northern Cape police say King Khoisan sustained serious injuries during a crash on the N9 between Colesberg and Noupoort that claimed the life of his wife, Doris Triegaardt, also known as Queen Khoisan. Two others - who were in the car with the couple - also sustained injuries during the crash. Police union SAPU in the Northern Cape has encouraged its members to protect themselves when under attack from criminals. This comes after an alleged car hijacker who pointed police with a firearm was shot and killed between Kimberley and Griekwastad. He had ignored police warning to stop before they gave chase. SAPU says when police attempted to apprehend him he allegedly pointed a firearm at them leading to him being fatally shot.

The Kimberley Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape has released five suspects on bail of two thousand rand each in connection with the death of an alleged cellphone thief. The men from a local Neighbourhood Watch were arrested after the death of a 27-year-old man on 28 December last year. He was allegedly assaulted by some locals including the accused before he died later at his home. The man had been accused of stealing a cellphone. The court has also changed the murder charge to assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The case was postponed to Monday for further investigations and for arrangement for trial.

A 54-year-old passenger has died following a vehicle crash that occurred at N9 between Colesburg and Noupoort. Police say the car crash happened when the driver lost control following a tyre burst. Some of the other passengers in the vehicle and the driver are being treated for their injuries at Colesberg's Mannie Dipico Hospital.

The case of alleged assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm against Hopetown's Thembelihle Municipality executive mayor, Marinus Visser has been postponed to next week Wednesday. Visser appeared in the Phillipstown Magistrate's Court, in the Northern Cape. He is alleged to have assaulted a woman last weekend.
