Filmmakers in the Northern Cape say while the province’s film week provides them with some exposure, they still need more support. The annual film festival, held in November, also puts potential filmmakers in touch with investors, like the National Film and Video Foundation and industry experts in an attempt to grow local filmmakers. The last few years have seen a number of feature films and documentaries emerging from the province. The festival’s founder, Motheo Seleke, says the fifth edition of the film festival this year introduced a 72-hour challenge to get filmmakers to produce work from start to screen.

The Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley has condemned the continued vandalism of their electrical infrastructure. The municipality says the continued targeted destruction to their infrastructure undermines their service delivery efforts. Municipality spokesperson Thabo Mothibi says the theft and vandalism has cost the municipality over 5 million-Rand in the past financial year.

"Theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure; by the end of the 2024-2025 financial year (end of June 2025); the municipality had suffered losses of over R6 million. Equally important to note: 1. when theft and vandalism are orchestrated, restoration of supply takes longer; and that 2. the municipality is taking strain in having to shift funds meant to install new infrastructure towards repair and replacement of stolen and vandalised assets," says Mothibi.
