During mid-December the Tawana family had the privilege of spending time with the Schoeman family in Kimberley.

Upon returning from an overlanding trip to the Witsand Kalahari Nature Reserve, Oom Gert and his family had stopped in Kimberley and my daughter and I met up with them.

Gert and I are friends for close to 3 decades. We met as colleagues at what was then Technikon Pretoria, which is now known as Tahwane University of Technology. He was my mentor and I learned a lot from him. Everything about Communications, I first learned from this media guru.

Our relationship evolved into that of an Ou Boet & Klein Boet. And we have remained family friends ever since. He was one of the people whom I consulted when I named our outfit Black Boy Adventures. He supported the name 100% & even assisted to craft the reasoning behind the name. (topic for another day).

We spend almost 3 hours together before they drove back to the picturesque Eastern Free State dorpie of Clarence where the family is now based after the couple's retirement.

The only divergent matter in our lives is that they overland in a Landrover Defender 90 and us in the mighty Toyota Landcruiser 79😜. However this time they came in the Subaru as they wanted to test its capabilities on the Northern Cape rugged 4x4 routes.

About 3 weeks ago, the entire Kasi of Galeshewe in Kimberley was thrown into darkness for well over 24 hours. The municipality informed us the cause thereof was vandalism & theft by izinyoka at one of our main electricity substation.

Fortunately for us, we had backup in the form of the Flexopower Lithium Portable Power Station with its Namib 150W foldable solar panels. We survived that blackout as we could atleast pull some of the 220v appliances in the house. For the smaller 12v appliances like cell phones we used our DC-to-DC system in Musafir to keep them charged and going.

We use this very solution from Flexopower South Africa to generate the much needed electricity when we are overlanding off-grid in the African Bushveld with Musafir. We dont have a permanently mounted inverter in our vehicle, we rather opted for this option as it gives one flexibility to move it around to where one needs to use it, like in this instance we used it in our house.

We are currently using the 555 and wish to have the larger 1200 or even the 3000. If only wishes were horses😜.

And so the courier man delivered an eagerly awaited parcel to the Tawana household from the rolling hills of the Midlands Meander of KwaZulu-Natal Province.

In the parcel was 2 pairs of boots compliments of the Crouch family, manufacturers of the Jim Green Footwear. The one pair was the newly designed Workhorse Moc Toe Bronco Brown boot and the other one a customised to my spec, Roughout African Buffalo Leather Razorback boot.

Due to their comfort, ruggedness and durability I decided about 2 years ago to wear the Jim Green boots. They are "reg vir die werk en die kerk😜" They conquer the harsh African Bushveld terrain with ease. They are to be worn the whole day and everyday😉.

Our overlanding rig Musafir is a happy chappie. He got an upgraded Old Man Emu suspension thanks to Deon Venter & his okes at 4x4 Mega World. The staff at their Klerksdorp branch is always friendly & uitsteekend.

Now I understand the concept of "buk wors" (bending down wors). You braai it whilst you "buk" and dont braai it dry in order for the juices in the wors to still be there. That will make you "buk" as you eat it as the juices will be splashing all over. Aaii 'n lekker worsie soos 'n kreker😋😋😋.

So far in our travels in Botswana we have tasted wors from Food Lover's Market at the Square Mart as well as from Gaborone Butchery from our buddy Musa, I just forgot his surname. We now need to try the wors from at Westgate Mall.

Had it not been for the prohibition to bring in meat and meat products into Botswana we would have taken along our trusted kameelhout wors or plaas wors from our trusted butcher Rashaad Fredericks of Barkly Road Muslim Butchery😜.

Can our Muslim followers who are based in Botswana recommend to us where we can get the best halaal wors in your country. Especially around Lobatse, Gaborone, Francistown or Maun.
