Calling all freelancers, social media managers, or anyone who offers a service—this one is for you.
It might seem great to have a full roster of clients, but does each and every one of those clients value you as much as you value yourself?
My guess is no. When I started this business, I thought it was more important to have a full list of clients. I almost took on a client who 1. Clearly didn’t see the value in my services and 2. Started treating me like a personal assistant from the get-go 😂.
I get it, we’ve all been there. Not every client we have is our ideal client, but just as we are selective in dating, we need to be the same when taking on new clients. (Well, I at least hope you are😂🚩🚩🚩)
Think of it this way: you’re pouring your creativity into growing their business, spending your precious hours creating an awesome strategy, and for what? Someone who doesn’t respect you?
This has been such a hard lesson for me to learn. I can be such a people pleaser and want to help everyone who can’t afford my services. And that’s when I need to ask myself, am I genuinely wanting to help this person? Do they see my value? If yes, amazing—I will do what I can to help. But it’s important to remember that your time is money, your creativity is worth something, and you deserve clients who see this.
You need to give yourself a pep talk from time to time and ask, is my integrity being compromised? Is it worth having clients that treat me this way? Your mental health and self-worth are so, so important.
Value yourself my babe!
Kthanksbye!
