We as Black Boys are BEAUTIFUL and VICTORIOUS, and we embrace it. The revolution is being documented, by fire, by force.

🎬 What We Became: Combo Dojo - Celebrating Four Years of Kasi Greatness! 🎬
Today, we celebrate a milestone that resonates deeply within Jo’burg and the streets of Katlehong. Four years ago, HIPP Daily Media Works dropped its groundbreaking documentary, What We Became: COMBO DOJO. Produced and written by Lungelo Zulu, the founder and creative director of HIPP Daily Media Works, this documentary captured the essence of a dynamic creative collective that redefined street culture.

Combo Dojo, hailing from the vibrant Mavimbela section of Katlehong, consists of four powerhouses: one visual artist and three musicians. Together, they’ve mastered the art of blending music and street fashion, becoming icons in their own right. The 30-minute film is more than just a profile; it’s a deep dive into the notion of social identity and the cultural impact of these incredible artists.

The film showcases their journey, highlighting how their background and environment shaped their unique perspectives and artistic expressions. It's a celebration of young Black artists who are not just surviving but thriving and making a significant impact on their communities.

Shot in August 2020, What We Became: Combo Dojo takes us inside the creative minds of these artists. We see them in their element, their studio – a sanctuary of creativity and collaboration. Conversations flow about social identity, the power of art in marginalized communities, and the crucial role of collaboration.

Produced by HIPP Daily Media Works with technical support from Habitat61, and featuring the cinematographic talents of Lindokuhle Shandu, Thami Darklass, and editor Madoda Valashiya of King Doda Digital Media, this documentary is a testament to the power of storytelling. Appearances by affiliates like Tandaza Simama and Jackie Mtsogo add depth and authenticity, making this a true reflection of kasi life.

What We Became: Combo Dojo premiered on August 5, 2021, exactly one year after the first interviews. It was accompanied by a photo essay curated by me, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look into the making of this iconic documentary. The film embarked on a screening tour, spreading its message far and wide.

Building Bridges while Crossing Diamonds 🔥🔥🌊

Skero11, real name Mpho Majoe is a 29 year old Musician, Producer & Songwriter hailing all the way from Moleleki extension 1 in Katlehong.
With a presence spanning over 10 years in Katlehong's bubbling music scene, Skero11 has undeniably paved a lane for his music to thrive in. Not only did he pave his own lane, but he had a hand in developing the sound of other artists and producers from Katlehong. And not to mention, his production credits on the film scores of the WHAT WE BECAME: COMBO DOJO documentary produced by HIP Daily Media Works, it just goes to show the Producer's diverse ability to create music beyond the confines of Rap music.

After extensive years of juggling a nine to five and producing music every day, it is inevitable for Skero11 to release something very soon. Crossing Diamonds, Skero11's forthcoming EP comes as his first full body of work which is suspected to be a prequel to his album C.U.T, abbreviated from Chapters UnTold.
When referring to the meaning behind the title Crossing Diamonds, Skero11 stated: Many people live on the cross, live by the cross, and the majority is poor - therefore living by the cross doesn't necessarily mean one must not have diamonds.

The seven track offering features appearances from his affiliates RSA Reloaded Majozi and Skotch whom Skero11 is also producing for. The EP is set for release in the month of August, 2021.

What We Became: COMBO DOJO
Combo Dojo is a creative collective emerging from the depths of Katlehong, mainly Mavimbela section. The collective comprises of four flamboyant personalities, namely Kay-Dee Superstar, Space Boy who is also known as Promethezine, Artrick Yellow & Pablo Da Connect.

The group is famous to the streets of Johannesburg and Kay-One and they are particularly known for the fearlessness of their fashion sense, their Art and of course their music. Their authentic and rebellious nature has influenced many youths in and out of Katlehong and the documentary What We Became profiles their journey through creativity and celebrates their efforts towards impacting the creative scene of Katlehong positively.
