Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development - CCRED

The Centre seeks to establish itself as a locus of knowledge and information on competition, regulation and economic development by publishing its research, hosting information and knowledge exchange platforms, and hosting conferences and seminars in partnership with competition authorities and regulators. tre has co-hosted the Annual Competition Law, Economics and Policy Conferences from 2011 to 2013 and undertaken major projects. The Centre is active in the area of learning and development. It offers a dedicated competition economics Masters elective, teaches components of postgraduate microeconomics courses, and supervises dissertations in the area of competition economics. Short learning programmes are also offered, facilitated by both local and international practitioners and academics. The Centre is developing a bank of competition and regulation case studies and exercises, and will use this as the basis for developing a textbook on competition and economic regulation. CCRED is headed by Professor Simon Roberts and includes a number of lecturers and associates who are experienced competition economists working in academia, for the competition authorities, and for leading consultancies. CCRED is guided by a governing board chaired by Professor Lumengo Bonga-Bonga, Head of the Department of Economics and Econometrics at the University of Johannesburg.
