Kaizer Chiefs failed: PSL club beats Khosi to former Downs winger Kaizer Chiefs failed deal revealed, as another PSL club has beaten them to a former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder. In a surprising turn of events, Keletso Makgalwa has chosen a different path, leaving Kaizer Chiefs in the dust. The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has secured a move for the upcoming 2024/25 DStv Premiership season. After an impressive season with Upington City FC in the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship, where he netted 11 goals in 23 matches. Makgalwa’s stock has skyrocketed once again. His dynamic performances on the wing caught the eye of scouts across the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Leading to a hotly contested race for his signature.

PSL’S HOT PURSUIT: CLUBS COMPETED FOR MAKGALWA
During the January transfer window, Sekhukhune United, Richards Bay FC, and even Chippa United vied for Makgalwa’s signature. Recognizing his potential to elevate their squads. However, it was Sekhukhune United that moved swiftly and decisively to secure the talented winger before the start of the new season.

WHAT MOVE MEANS FOR SEKHUKHUNE UNITED
Keletso Makgalwa, aged 27, joined Upington City in October 2023 on a free transfer after departing from Mamelodi Sundowns. His impact was immediate, attracting interest from top-flight teams as Upington City fought for promotion to the Premiership.

The defender opens up about his future
WHAT HAPPENED?
Kaizer Chiefs graduate Siyabonga Ngezana was an instant hit in his debut season at FCSB who he joined from Amakhosi.

He helped the team win the Romanian top tier and made the team of the campaign owing to his consistency.

Some teams from France were reportedly chasing the defender's signature, notably Lorient who are keen on rebuilding.
WHAT NGEZANA SAID
"To be quite honest, that time the league was coming to an end, I had so many interests from other teams, but my focus was to keep my head down and focus on winning the league, which we did," the South Africa international told Marawa Sports Worldwide.

"I heard a lot of rumors, but obviously, it was rumors; I don’t pay too much attention to them until there’s something solid.

"It was not only a team from France but also in Turkey, but it means there’s something because even my boss, Mr. Gigi Becalli, also said something about it. It’s not in my hands, it is under the management."
WHAT NEXT?
Ngezana was part of the South Africa team that collected four points in the recent 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

Currently, the player is on holiday and will most definitely discuss with his representatives before taking another step.

The Union Buildings are buzzing as Ramaphosa is set to take the oath of office.
The Union Buildings will be the focus of attention on Wednesday as President-elect Cyril Ramaphosa takes the oath of office for a second term.
For the first time since the advent of democracy in 1994, the ANC has lost its absolute majority in parliament and was left scrambling to find coalition partners to remain in power.

It has since agreed to form what it calls a national unity government with several other parties.

They include the DA, the Inkatha Freedom Party, the anti-immigration Patriotic Alliance and the small centre-left GOOD party.

The inauguration marks the start of Ramaphosa's five-year term of office.

The president-elect, members of Parliament, dignitaries, foreign Heads of State, other guests, and members of the public are expected to attend the event.

Attendees will also enjoy an array of cultural and artistic performances by various artists, including Makhazi and Sjava.

How Bafana captain Williams helped give Mofokeng a grin that lit up Bloem
Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams is embraced by Relebohile Mofokeng after their 3-1 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying win against Zimbabwe at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday night.
He was like a child in a candy store.

As he ran on to the pitch to make his long overdue Bafana Bafana debut, the camera panned on the baby face of exciting Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng and his huge grin said it all. At that moment, you could have switched off all the lights in the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein and Mofokeng’s smile could have lit up the venue.
Bafana were leading 3-1 against Zimbabwe through Iqraam Rayners of Stellenbosch FC's early strike and a brace from substitute attacker Thapelo Morena as South Africa kept their 2026 Fifa World Cup hopes on track.

When Mofokeng entered the fray, the exciting match was drawing to a close in front of a full house as the football-mad people of the Free State responded to the call of backing the national team with outstanding scenes in Bloemfontein. Rayners, Morena and the supporters deserved to steal the limelight but it was the introduction of Mofokeng that topped it all on Tuesday night when one saw what it meant for the Pirates youngster.
Coach Hugo Broos confirmed afterwards Mofokeng’s introduction was in response to the call of captain Ronwen Williams and there is an image of the two players embracing at the final whistle. With minutes remaining Williams sprinted to the South African bench to have a word with Broos. Soon after that Mofokeng made his introduction, substituting Oswin Appollis in the 93rd minute and playing about three more minutes of added time.

It was Teboho Mokoena who deliberately played the ball out of play to allow the fourth official to facilitate Mofokeng's introduction. Then it was midfield kingpin Themba Zwane who selflessly passed the ball back to Mofokeng so he could have his second touch in international football, where he played a long pass that found Morena on the right wing.

It must also be remembered that a few weeks ago it was Mofokeng who put a dagger in the hearts of Williams, Mokoena and Zwane with a late winner for Orlando Pirates against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final at Mbombela Stadium. But because of their maturity, Bafana's three Sundowns stars put club rivalry aside to ensure the young Mofokeng had the opportunity to make his long-awaited debut and get his foot on the ball.

Fifa World Cup Qualifiers: Shocking scenes as Nigeria's Super Eagles slip up in defeat to Benin
The Super Eagles failed to secure their first win in Group C of the Fifa World Cup qualifiers as they succumbed to a defeat to Benin on Monday.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Both teams began at a leisurely pace, Nigeria displaying patience in their attacks but lacking clarity in ex*****on.

However, after 27 minutes, Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika broke the deadlock, receiving a pass from Samuel Chukwueze near the box and skillfully slotting the ball into the corner of the right post, leaving goalkeeper Marcel Dandjinou helpless.

They unfortunately could not hold onto their lead, as 10 minutes later, Jodel Dossou capitalized on a defensive error by Nigeria to level the score in front of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Benin then extended their lead before the halftime whistle when striker Steve Mounié capitalized on a loose ball from a corner kick.

In the early stages of the second half, Nigeria opted for tactical adjustments, substituting Alex Iwobi and Terem Moffi for Paul Onuachu and Victor Boniface, aiming to change their fortunes in the match.

Even though coach Finidi George's team had several chances to equalize, they couldn't convert them into goals, ultimately falling to a 2-1 defeat. This loss leaves Nigeria in fifth place in Group C, with Benin leading the table.

WHAT NEXT FOR NIGERIA?
The Fifa World Cup qualifiers will resume in March 2025, with the Super Eagles set to face Rwanda on March 17th, followed by a match against Zimbabwe on March 24th.

Vilakazi makes a huge claim on Orlando Pirates' Mofokeng after Nedbank Cup winner against Mamelodi Sundowns - 'Like Ronaldo, the teenager didn't care!'
The 19-year-old has made steady progress this season and the Masandawana legend is happy with his exploits.

At just 19, Mofokeng is a key player at Bucs
He has played a crucial role for the Pirates across all competitions
The teenager compared with legendary Brazilian striker
WHAT HAPPENED?
In the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns, Jose Riveiro introduced teenager Relebohile Mofokeng when the score was still 1-1.

The teenager then received the ball in the danger zone later into the game before nutmegging Bongani Zungu and bending his strike past Ronwen Williams to hand Orlando Pirates the trophy.

It explains why ex-Mamelodi Sundowns and Bucs midfielder Benedict Vilakazi has compared him to Brazil legend Luis Nazario de Lima who was commonly referred to as Ronaldo.
WHAT VILAKAZI SAID
"As soon as that ball got to him, I knew something would happen," Vilakazi said as quoted by iDiski Times.

"I knew because he is not afraid of anything. I thought he was immediately going to try to bend it; so when he tried to dribble [past Bongani] Zungu I was like uh! Then it happens to him and with a toe. That’s top-class.

"You know top players like Ronaldo of Brazil didn't care when they were in that position. If he is there and if it needs a toe, put that toe in.

"I was so surprised that he didn’t start the game because this boy had been on song; we were still singing his name and where we needed to dance the boy was not there. But the coach introduced him later.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
After his involvement for Bucs in the 2023/24 season, Mofokeng has earned his place in the Bafana Bafana team that will play Nigeria on Friday in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifier to be played in Uyo.

Mofokeng might not be handed a start against the Super Eagles but could be introduced later into the game depending on the flow of the encounter.

Nigeria's PSL star: Bafana cannot match us if...

Stanley Nwabali claims South Africa doesn’t possess the same quality as Nigeria ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifier in Uyo on Friday, June 7.

The two teams met as recently as February when the Super Eagles beat Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalties in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, with Nwabali producing heroics in the shootout.

The core of Hugo Broos’ squad featured at the continental showpiece consisted of Mamelodi Sundowns players, and nine of them made the final cut for the June qualifiers.

The Brazilians almost made history domestically when they went unbeaten in 29 DStv Premiership games before eventually losing on the final day of the season – their first defeat in 53 top-flight matches.

Nwabali is well-versed in the caliber of the opposition, having faced many of them this past season while playing for Chippa United, but he believes Finidi George has a far better crew at his disposal.

“Football is the same everywhere but I don’t feel with the kind of players we have, we can have any challenge in any game, especially in our group. But you cannot predict football,” he told Lagos Talks on 91.3 FM.

“Talking about South African players I would say I know them. We have good players in our country too so I’m not talking about those guys, they are good in their own way of playing.

“I’m not talking about them because if we can put ourselves together, they cannot match us.”

Bucs hero Mofokeng vows to stay grounded
The crafty teenager now heads into his first Bafana camp
Asserting he feels like a hero after his Nedbank Cup final heroics, Orlando Pirates starlet Relebohile Mofokeng is on guard against potential new friends, insisting he wants to keep his circle very small as mixing with a lot of people could hurt his budding career.

Proving once again that he's destined for greatness, Mofokeng capped off a fantastic week in style by coming off the bench to net the winner with virtually the last touch of the game in the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
Mofokeng's stoppage-time goal made the final score 2-1. Themba Zwane had put Sundowns ahead in the 54th minute, before Patrick Maswanganyi levelled matters from the spot 26 minutes into the second half.

“I feel like a hero. It was a great goal. They [Bucs coaches] wanted me to be the game-changer and I did that,'' the ever-smiling Mofokeng told reporters.

“The smaller the group, the better you know...because if you are friends with a lot of people it's easy to attract negativity. When you have a small circle, it's always easy to take advice from each other, so I will keep my circle very small. You can't be listening to a lot of people as your friends because that will mess up your head.''

The 19-year-old winger's first big moment of the week came on Thursday when he was included in Bafana Bafana Bafana final squad for the first time to face Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers. Bafana faces Nigeria away on Friday, before hosting Zimbabwe at Free State Stadium four days later.

Mofokeng wasn't really keen to talk about his Bafana expectations. “I will hear what the coach [Hugo Broos] says and we'll take it from there.''

The Pirates winger is also nominated for the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season and Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament accolades after a stellar term. “I feel like I deserve the nominations but if I don't win, I will be happy for whoever wins,'' Mofokeng said.

Heartbreaking turn of events for Pitso Mosimane in Saudi Arabia
It was a rather heartbreaking turn of events in Saudi Arabia, Pitso Mosimane failed to help Abha Club retain its Saudi Pro League status.

Abha suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Al Hazm on Monday night in the season’s last match played at the Al-Hazm Club Stadium
Mosimane joined Abha Club in January, with the sole mandate of helping the club retain its Saudi Pro League status. Last week, they beat Al Khaleej 2-1 to reach the final day sitting above the relegation zone.

And all they needed was a win over the hapless Al Hazm who were only fulfilling the fixture since their relegation was already determined. However, it was not to be.
HOW PITSO MOSIMANE FARED IN HIS SECOND SAUDI ARABIA STINT
The two teams were deadlocked at half-time. However, Mosimane’s charges returned from the break with more firepower. And Ahmed Abdu Jaber broke the deadlock in the 47th minute.

Simply put, Abha Club had more reasons to fight than their opponents, Al Hazm. Nevertheless, Al Hazm were not willing to make it easy for the celebrated South African coach.

They restored parity on the 58th-minute mark through Gambian forward Muhammed Badamosi. Al Hazm doubled their scores in the 80th minute, putting the game well beyond the former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns coach.

With 32 points on their tally, Abha was therefore relegated together with Al Tai and Al Hazm. Al Tai lost 2-0 to Al-Akhdoud. Going into this one, Abha knew that they had a significantly inferior goal difference to Al Tai and Al-Akhdoud.

Hence they were gunning for maximum points to guarantee their safety. Furthermore, Abha Club ended the season with the worst defensive record in the league, conceding 87 goals throughout the season.

In addition, their defence has conceded 31 goals in the last 13 matches. This was his second mission in Saudi Arabia having helped Al Ahli bounce back into the elite league last season.

27/05/2024

One of the most experienced coaches in the PSL, Gavin Hunt of SuperSport United, has weighed in on the much-publicized feud between his counterparts Rulani Mokwena and Sead Ramovic, urging the league to intervene as he preaches mutual respect among coaches.

The gloves are off between Mamelodi Sundowns' Mokwena and his TS Galaxy counterpart Ramovic, with the feud now under judiciary's consideration after Galaxy served the former with court papers for comments he made at the end of April when he implied his player Bongani Zungu had been deliberately targeted by Galaxy players as revenge for breaking Bernard Parker's leg in October.
"When you go and do your coaching licenses, there's certain ethics [you learn] and respect. I don't have to be in your Christmas card and you won't be on mine but you gotta have a certain respect and you can't let [the rivalry] go off the field if you know what I am saying,'' Hunt said post their season finale's 1-all draw against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium at the weekend.

"I think there has to be a certain amount of respect and honest opinion, the league should get involved...something should happen here, you can't just let these things go like this because it's a reflection on your sponsorship.''

The four-time league-winning coach doubts Mokwena and Ramovic will smoke the peace pipe anytime soon, still lamenting the manner in which their feud has escalated. Hunt wishes Mokwena and Ramovic to learn from the world's leading coaches Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, who are rivals but have maintained mutual respect.

"Doesn't look like one of them is going to give in. There's nothing wrong with having a rivalry...you don't even have to shake hands with the guy or talk with the guy but there has to be respect around these things and I think they [Mokwena and Ramovic] need to sort it out, get into a room if they can,'' Hunt said.

"I don't think it will happen because it's gone too far now but there's a code of conduct and a code of ethics in the business that need to happen. Mourinho doesn't like Pep and Pep doesn't like Mourinho but there's a certain amount of respect between them.''

Blow for Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates & Lesotho! Lehlohonolo Mojela chooses Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana - 'I declined'
The exciting player has been a revelation on his debut season in the PSL and his exploits have reportedly caught the eye of the PSL's top clubs.
Mojela said to be on Chiefs & Pirates radar
The player reveals Sundown's dream
Galaxy a selling club
WHAT HAPPENED?
Lehlohonolo Mojela has opened up about his future ambitions after a successful debut season with TS Galaxy.

The 27-year-old attacker, who played a key role in helping Galaxy reach the Carling Knockout final, has been constantly with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

The two Soweto giants have been credited with an interest in Mojela who is eligible to represent South Africa and Lesotho.

The former Casric Stars player has now made it known that he is eager to turn out for PSL champions Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.
WHAT WAS SAID?
“Maybe they [Sundowns] will sign me," Mojela said on Metro FM.

"I really want to play for Sundowns, but for now I am focusing on TS Galaxy because that is where I am contracted.

"I am focusing on my current job. But if it were up to me, I would go there [to Sundowns]. It will depend on the [Galaxy] chairman [if Chiefs called for my services
WHAT WAS ELSE WAS SAID?
“I have had an opportunity to play for Lesotho. I have Lesotho roots," he added.

"They [Lesotho FA] called me, saying I should change my international allegiance and apply for Lesotho citizenship so that I can play for the Lesotho national team.

"But I declined because I want to play for South Africa and I believe I deserve it (Bafana call up), I have worked hard. I give central defenders a lot of stress," he added.

"Every time we play, two or three defenders are assigned to mark me."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mojela is in his first season in the PSL having joined Galaxy from Casric Stars last year and he has been influential for coach Sead Ramovic's side.

The explosive player has so far scored seven goals in 33 matches across all competitions for the Rockets who have enjoyed their best campaign since the club's inception in 2017.

Clubs interested in Mojela's services will have to prize him away from Galaxy as he is contracted to the Mpumalanga side beyond this season.

The Rockets have proved to be a selling club over the years having sold Given Msimango, Melusi Buthelezi and Djakaridja 'Junior' Traore Chiefs, Pirates and Turkey's Istanbulspor respectively last year.
