What are your non negotiables or deal breakers in your life ?

I have a few ....in no specific order that turn me right off when I encounter these traits.....

Gossiping, Rudeness, Arrogance, Self Centredness, Boasting and Bragging , Abusers, Bullying, Stealing, Rumour mongeres, Haters, Dishonesty, Selfishness, Maniputiveness, Violence, Inconsiderateness, Greed,
Negativity, Hypocrisy, Racism, Sexism, Ageism,
Gender based Violence, Vindictiveness, Narcissism and Laziness.

We all have the capacity to do better but for me , I just don't want these folks in my orbit. We are all wired differently but these traits are not for me.

“Can You Forgive?
Discovering Your Capacity to Let Go”

I've been thinking about forgiveness and I have no idea why but it's been occupying space rent free in my brain.

It must be some subliminal invasion of my sub conscious mind and I will attempt to give you my perspective on this very intense and sometimes impossible struggle that we all go through at some time in our lives.

Folks often will tell you
"Move on..... forget about it......" but it takes a great deal of introspection and maturity to get to that place in your heart.💚

I mean take being verbally abused and/or physically assaulted or where you have been cheated out of your life savings ....is it easy to forgive ?

I think that is extremely difficult. You can be forgiven for wishing those the pain that you have gone through.

There’s often a strong desire for justice or retribution when you’ve been wronged.

Forgiveness might feel like we letting the other person off the hook, which can be hard to reconcile with your sense of fairness and justice.

Despite these challenges, forgiveness can be a powerful tool for healing.

It doesn’t mean forgetting or excusing the hurt, but rather freeing yourself from the burden of anger, revenge and resentment.

When we hold onto hate or revenge it's like us drinking poison and hoping the other person dies. I read this somewhere and it's stuck with me.

To forgive has to be up there with some of the greatest qualities and values of humanity.

I hope this post will contribute to our individual and collective healing.

My passion is without question working as a radio presenter and it continues to fill me with unparralled happiness whenever I connect with my audience.

It provides me with such an important platform of learning about my fellow countrymen and women who bring me the most wonderful and compelling ideas and stories.

They are the real heros of every program I am honoured to host.

I love that part of this amazing radio journey where
I get a front row seat to experience their lives as we share the ups and the downs of our human condition.

I have so many beautiful relationships and friendships that have been fostered through radio.

I have been so blessed to have my audience stay with me and they have followed me with such love and loyallty to my new home at Mix 93.8

This shows the high quality and caliber of listeners and the strong bond of trust we have created and maintained over the years.

They have never let me down.

Not once.

Despite my new role being so ridiculously early in the morning.
They always show up.
They can be counted upon.
I get a flood of the kindest messages to greet me before and during every show.

I have always stated my desire to be a radio guy was about the connection and not bringing attention to myself.

With so much negativity in the world even hate. I wanted to use this platform to stop the judgement ,the criticism and unify folks through values of understanding, kindness and empathy.

Radio has allowed me to promote and campaign for so many worthy causes such as working with The Gift of the Givers, The SHOUT Foundation, CHOC and also provide assistance to those in their hour of desperate need.

We not here for a long time.
The contribution we make can live on long after we have departed.

Nobody is better than anyone else. 💚

I am into completing my 1st month this week at Mix 93.8 and my experience here has been nothing short of amazing.

The difference between Mix and other radio stations I've been honoured to work at is summed up in one word TRUST.

The management here are not only highly professional but their philosophy is "we employ you to do a job here and we know that you will deliver our core values of decency and respect whenever you take to the air"

This culture at Mix allows you to deliver on the faith they have in their staff.

You given a sense of responsibility where you are compelled to research your shows and deliver your best with unparraled support from the team that is willing you on to win.

It's refreshing, exciting and a
privilige for me to make a contribution to the overall DNA of the station.

But am I happy ? I'm so happy even to be up and ready to get up and go at 3 a.m. That will answer your question I think.......

I must admit I think I've become an overthinker.

It's not that I am a deep thinking intellectual. I'm far from it.

I just tend to create problems that are not there.

I need to become more accepting or realise that some of what happens to us has no logical explanation but it just happens.

So what brings this about is I am so fortunate to be driving a brand new luxury Jaewoo J7 motor vechile courtesy of IPOP Motor Group and I'm parked in a parking lot and a car which is being towed dislodged from the tow truck and bangs into my car.

Thank goodness nobody was injured by this runaway vechile.

Then I start mulling this over in my mind suggesting to myself that
"Yes you needed to brought down a peg or two because I may have been proud of myself ? "

So I took it as karma. I know myself and I'm not boastful or arrogant but maybe some subliminal
pride did enter the vestiges of my mind.

I have always been aware that when things are going for you. Be quiet. Be cautiously aware that some will never applaud for you. Some maybe envious?

I do think the majority are
very well meaning but not everyone. It's life.

I have always said to my friends and colleagues
" I'm not in competition with them because I want you to win to"
Am I alone here or do you share similar questioning ?

I know I am guilty of forgetting and taking so much for granted.

The gift of life is the greatest blessing.

I remember a wise man once told me as long as we above ground and we are breathing, we all can make a difference.

That opened my mind to the potential and possibility that lies within in all of us.

Surely we must persist. Never ever lose hope. Press on. Be enthuastic.

Have a "bring it on" mentality because never have I been more ready to meet head on whatever challenges that
await me. Make this your mantra. Have the audacity to be great.

They say you're boring when you don't drink.

Discipline is not boring
Designing a life of your choosing is not boring
Studying to have an education is not boring
You know what is boring ?
Being like everyone else.
Boring is being like others just to fit in and be false.
Boring is having no goals and no ambition.
Boring is flopping on the couch watching television instead of going on a hike or going to the gym or going for a walk to clear your mind.
I'm happy to be boring if I prioritize my family to pursue a better life for the benefits that this will bring to the ones I love. 💚
I believe when we settle for what we handed in life, that is boring. In fact, that is sad.
We have the potential but we must go after it with determination and courage.

One moment as a radio presenter made it all so worthwhile for me......

Music has a unique power to heal, bring joy, and uplift our spirits.

However, it’s also true that our individual tastes can make it a divisive topic.

Criticizing a song, singer, band, genre, or era of music often doesn’t contribute positively, as everyone has their own preferences and connections to different types of music.

Instead, embracing the diversity in musical tastes can lead to richer conversations and a deeper appreciation for the art form.

It’s all about respecting each other’s choices and finding common ground in the shared love for music. 🎶

i recall playing a song that was house music and it recieved a critical response.

Then a Mom called into the studio to Thank me as she and her child who was deaf were with her her friends who were visiting all had hearing impairments.

They were listening to my show and they felt the "beat" of that song and were dancing happily around the living room.

That was such a beautiful moment as I slumped back in my chair and thought if that one single moment brought those kids with such a debilitating condition happiness it was all I needed to know.

Radio remains a powerful way of connecting and that is why I love it so much. We have a duty to be ultra sensitive to the struggles of folks who are dealing with conditions that we are unaware of.

This platform I have, is one I'm immensley priviliged to occupy. I never take my role for granted.

Everytime I go live on air I say a short little prayer where I say :
" May my words heal and never harm. May I bring comfort ,understanding and empathy to all those who are going through hard times." This I pray in your name. Amen 🙏

I found YOU to have such an unshakeable, unparalleled loyalty guarding my name and reputation and it was YOU who stayed right by side throughout and to this very day and formed a circle of love.

My friendship and relationship with Meyer Benjamin of The iPop Motor Group is as solid as a granite rock and he never doubted me for a second helping and first to declare his substantive investment in my radio show at Mix 93.8 FM. Not once did he hesitate.

I never knew of the good fortune that was coming my way and the outpouring of love I would be honoured to recieve from you which would protect me from this reality I had experienced on the 1st of July.

It goes to show that whatever we go through in life ,there is a divine hand at work and whilst I was filled with immense trepidation, I was at the same time filled with unparraled faith that if I just was accepting of my fate and forgiving, somehow I would be okay.

My plan was delibirate and intentional.

I refused to react.

I was still.

I had to draw deep into the values I had expoused so frequently about being positive and staying focused and calm.

To ensure my mind was distracted ,I threw myself into a vigorous exercise program.

Nothing is more beneficial to the mind when you sweat and are consumed by releasing those endorphins.

Then running parallel to this my listeners who are my extended family came through with an avalanche of love, prayers and support.

I really was shocked and humbled at your reaction.

I never imagined how our connection and time together
would translate to this closing of the ranks.

I was moved to tears as I read your posts. I was overcome to know how special and important a role you and I had developed over the years.

I refused to reach out and look for work in radio as I needed time to reflect and consider my future.

Well 17 days is all it took and
I was lucky to be led to a new home called Mix 93.8 FM.

Now you must know that all radio stations have their line ups scheduled for the year but through the kind generosity of Mix 93.8 ,they made space for me in the early morning.

I am immensley grateful and to be on air is a privilige which I'm excited about.

My philosophy is when I have a setback, I take a step back and I get ready for my comeback.

I need to prove myself. I need to challenge myself by taking the road less traveled.

Am I confident ? No

My insecurity has always served me well in life. I'll need to up my game but with you in my corner. I'm going to give it all I got and more.

May I begin by Thanking You for all your messages of unwavering support and love during this period of my time away from the microphone.

I was inundated and overwhelmed by your reaction and you proved to me just what incredibly special souls you are.

Your prayers sustained me.

Your validation inspired me.

You kept in touch with messages that motivated me to never look down but to look up and I found courage and strength in your wise, kind and loving words.

I was humbled to know how much you cared. The best thing that happend to me was this period and not for a second did I feel anything but your love.

That rescued me from an impending depression and from the first day of my exit, I never ever felt alone.

You were in my corner and to this day we are in communication on so many portals.

The one area of my life that has benefitted is my sense of spirituality and my health.

To distract myself I threw myself into a training program and am getting stronger and fitter daily.

I am thrilled to announce
that I have been blessed to find a new home at Mix 93.8 FM and whilst the line up for 2024/25 had been established, they kindly slotted me from very very early in the morning 5 to 6.

I am over the moon. My philosophy has always been to prove oneself and what a great opportunity I now have to see if I have it in me to make a mark.

On this Mandela Day I recall how priviliged I was to help Tata with The Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund in bringing focus and change to his many projects.

My small contribution of service included :

1. Hosting the Chritmas Party in Qunu where every child enjoyed a hearty Christmas lunch and a present.

2. Building a clinic in Garies in the Northern Cape through the generosity of Detol.

3. Developing a Vodacom 46664 starter pack where annuity income was used in the fight againgst HIV/ Aids

Madiba was the kindest person I have ever known and I saw his greatness on so many occasions that I hope to one day document for my grandchildren.

To be in his orbit was so impressionable on me and my family.

When my son ,Jarren, passed away in 2003 , he was being interviewed by Tim Modise of Carte Blanche and he stopped the interview immediately to get hold of me. Tim Modise told me he said :

"My friend Gavin is in pain. I need to see him"

Then he invited me to Russia, China and the USA which I accompanied him and a delegation of top businnes people. I really had no right to be there but such was his heart.

When he retired. He was lonely. He would love to chat and insist I join him for his favourite lunch of ox tail.
His wine choice was awful.😋
Madiba enjoyed a small glass of sweet wine.

I would often receive a call from him to join him at Waterkloof Airforce base to fly to Umtata to visit those communities especially when young Xhosa men were going through the initiation process.

He changed me for the better and I miss him. Rest in Peace Tata 🙏❤️

A message from Pam.

Dear Facebook Family,

On Monday morning Gavin arrived at the studio and was called into management. He was told that he was “suspended” because of something he said on 24th June.

He was stunned and asked “what did I say”. He asked again but they refused to tell him and said HR would deal with him.

Gavin has never been a person to say mean, bias or controversial things so he was dumbfounded wondering what he said that could lead to a suspension.

His listeners are his family.

He respects, values, and appreciates your support and loyalty.

On hearing that he was suspended, he made the instant decision to resign and this came for a number of reasons which I will explain.

He asked to say goodbye to his colleagues but was told
“Get out Get out” and blocked physically from going to their office.

He was told to wait in the car park, where his belongings would be brought to him. So humiliating!

So for some background on Gavins‘ time at LM.

Gavin considers a job more than just employment. He joins a company with the mindset that he wants to do everything he can to promote, contribute and ensure the business will succeed. I’ve seen this from the first job he had at the age of 18 working for Johnsons Wax. Job after job this was always his attitude, acknowledged and appreciated by his employers.

Eventually he succeeded in starting his own business.

That is the mindset he came into LM with. Not only to be a presenter but to do everything he could to grow the station and make it a success, especially as he had a wealth of experience in the commercial world and the station was struggling to keep going.

He secured lucrative sponsors for his show such as The iPop Motor Group, Telefunken, Airlink plus promotions he arranged such as Cadburys Chocolates to give to nurses during Covid.

Arranged BIC " Back to School " hampers for learners.

Sent 4 couples to spend a weekend with flights to Thornybush Private Game Reserve.

He initiated the blanket drive together with all of you and donated thousands of warm winter clothing and blankets for those in need.
R60,000.00 from his Foundation was donated.

He teamed up with the Gift of the Givers during the devastating floods in KZN to assist, together with your generous help, victims who lost everything.

In his own personal time he met with potentially companies to advertise on the station.
He gave away his salary in Checkers gift vouchers to listeners who were desperate during Covid.
He assisted colleagues when they didn’t have money to buy baby formulas or pay their rent.
He ensured that if his engineers stayed late or came in early to assist him, he would buy them breakfast or dinner.

He stood back on being paid for 15 months when cash flow was problem for LM, so that the office staff would receive their salaries.

I felt you needed to know these facts.

Your support during this very dark period has been so amazingly appreciated by Gavin and our family.

I HAVE THIS NEED IN ME TO TURN THE SPARK INTO A FLAME THEN INTO A WILD RAGING INFERNO.....🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Creating and curating a radio show can be a nerve racking and daunting task.

I have this blank canvass every Saturday on "Your Great LM Radio Weekend" and have to think deeply about what content I am going to fill those 4 hours with.

This journey begins, in my case, as soon as I'm driving home from the studio.

I prosecute and interogate these concepts by placing myself in the role of you, my knowledgeable amazing listeners who love and are passionate music lovers.

Sometimes it comes to me quickly and there are times when I doubt every idea and only just before the show goes live, I decide what it is I'm going to present.

The biggest challenge is not to be self indulgent. By this I mean not playing what I like but what YOU want to hear.

This past Saturday was just amazing and captivated me as a presenter as we circled back to the biggest songs on the charts 30, 40, 50 and 60 years ago.

These songs all celebrated their respective anniversaries in 2024.

I was enthralled how these songs have stood the test of time and could not believe how superbly they have aged.

It demonstrated and was empirical proof that a station like LM Radio has the most loyal following because nostalgic radio is in high demand.

LM Radio occupies a very special and unique space in the world of radio as it evokes indelible beautiful memories of our youth.

Those songs remind us of a time and place where we were, what we were doing,
our family and friends and sometimes those sadly departed from our lives.

Music has the ability to trigger so many emotions and there is truly nothing like music that connects us to one another. It's truly magical.

Thank you for your many messages and allowing me into your lives.

Its a honour and privilige that I never ever take for granted.

I AM THE BEST !

I had a feeling that arrogant, conceited, self absorbed, egotistical headline would get your attention :

Please allow me to explain :

This race to be the best is fuelled by ego.

It's nothing but the most irrelevant and pointless exercise and it disturbs me how people chase after it.

It is not my goal at all.

My interests lie in service.

Service to my family ,being a friend that can be counted on, working with my colleagues who know that I will step up to the plate for the sake of the team.

The best quality I find in humans are the ones who are humble and work hard at progressing incrementally every day.

My interest will always value and work toward collective success and the well -being of everyone.

My position is to support and assist you in any way I can.

I’m here to provide entertainment through my radio show, credible information and to help those who struggle in their daily lives by letting you know how special you are.

My goal is to be a helpful and positive presence, contributing to everyone’s ability to achieve their own version of success.

What is success?

For me success encompasses much more than material wealth and awards.

It's about building strong, healthy, loving, respectful and supportive relationships with family, colleagues and friends.

Making a positive impact on my community and helping others realise their full potential.

Continuously learning and growing as a person.

The best is simply a matter of opinion.

If we can strive to be the best versions of ourselves, that's good enough.

We have this obsession with who the best is?

Everyone on us has their own light to shine.

Nobody is better than the other.

I'm in competition with no one but myself. That's my take on life.

You can't compete with me.
