Stockholm, Sweden, came up with a creative approach to safe driving by deploying the “speed camera lottery. Drivers who observe the speed limit are automatically entered into a lottery to win cash prizes.
The cash pot comes from the fines paid by speeding drivers. The initiative reinvents the fine by essentially offering drivers rewards for obeying speed limits and, in turn, making roads less dangerous.

N3 Toll Route I Traffic Alert I Friday, 20 September at 20:00 | lMMEDIATELY POSTPONE TRAVEL to the Van Reenen Pass region between the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal — Adverse weather conditions along the N3 Toll Route are causing extremely dangerous driving conditions on the N3 Toll Route. Apart from snowfalls, the sudden drop in temperatures are also causing the formation of black ice. Road surfaces are slippery, and reports are being received of trucks losing traction, especially on the uphills along Van Reenen Pass.
N3TC appeals to all road users, including trucking operators, to suspend trips to the mountainous areas between the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal until further notice. In the interest of safety, it is highly likely that further traffic management interventions and/or road closures may be implemented.

Protect Your Business Assets

In March this year, Fidelity ADT issued a warning to all business owners to be on high alert, particularly those in the restaurant and mobile services sectors. It seems the trend has resurfaced.

Crime syndicates are increasingly targeting high-value assets such as expensive catering equipment, coffee machines, industrial blenders, and generators.

Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing & Communications for Fidelity ADT says, “Establishments are being targeted in the early hours of the morning between 3am and 5am, particularly mobile / container restaurants. It’s crucial that business owners take proactive measures to protect their assets.”

Business owners need to be vigilant, store your high valuable assets out of sight, and ensure they are secure. Make sure their CCTV is working and remain vigilant for any suspicious activity. For mobile business, look into tracking devices for your high value items.

We recommend at least two staff members must always carry hidden panic buttons. Visitors to these outlets must also be especially vigilant. Generally, the suspects are after the assets they came for and till money and not out to rob the customers, but it is still a high alert situation”

Hattingh adds, “We understand that these are challenging times, but the safety of your patrons and business assets should never be compromised.

“We recommend that business owners consult their security providers to do a full risk assessments to ensure they are fully protected against this type of crime. Let’s work together to keep our businesses and communities safe.” concludes Hattingh.
