The liquor industry is gearing up to start trading again on Tuesday as they have been hit hard by the alcohol ban.

According to reports, President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to lift the ban on alcohol when he addresses the nation this week.

The alcohol industry has been calling for the ban to be lifted as they have been struggling to make money. Restaurants have also been on the frontline and have protested at the Union Buildings to have the ban lifted. “The decision by the president and his cabinet to institute a third ban on alcohol sales on the 28 December 2020, has reduced liquor traders to being mere spectators in the economy,” said the industry hoping to meet with Ramaphosa.

According to The Citizen, Liquor Traders Association convenor Lucky Ntimane said the industry will reopen on Tuesday. Ntimane also complained that Ramaphosa is too "busy" to listen to their complaints. Not only is the sale of alcohol expected to open again, but the curfew could be eased to 11pm.
