In Literature, it is advisable for the Statesmen to make use of what we call the ELEVATED LANGUAGE befitting their stature and standing in society. That they should not be seen to be bickering and all the time arguing petulantly or peevishly.. That they should not use sarcasm or satirical utterances designed to cut or give pain, mocking, scorning, insulting or use caustic words against anybody.
However, we have seen our leaders openly and publicly wrangling to the extent of using even vulgar language. This becomes worse when we have an applauding audience and leaders who love playing to the public gallery.
I also learned that at no incident should be seen to be using DARK HUMOUR. This is when sarcasm has gone overboard and the speaker respects nothing including the values of his/ her audience. Dark humour is an attitude grounded on disorder and absurdity. It is the opposite of joviality or wit. In fact dark humour is a genre of COMIC IRRELEVANCE that attacks even sacrosanct institutions and even death. I hasten to say that our society has not gone to that extent but unless we take caution we might trot down that trajectory.
