The summit comes amid the escalating conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sudan where fighting between the warring parties has intensified in recent weeks, leaving a trail of civilian casualties and thousands of people in dire conditions.

Pentecostal pastors in Uganda's capital, Kampala, have asked for a provision in the country's Marriage Bill (2024) to consider cohabiting couples as married.

The pastors said this will prevent the growing tendency of men who take long to commit to relationships, even when there are children involved.

“Cohabitation will weaken marriages, some people do not wish to marry and they have ruined many lives,” they said.

“We suggest that staying with a person for a period of at least five years should automatically be qualified as marriage provided none of the party is committed in another legal marriage."

The pastors submitted their views on the Marriage Bill, 2024 during a joint meeting of the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee and the Committee on Gender, Labour and Social Development on Wednesday, 12 February 2025.

The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) says the annual toll tariffs will increase by 4.84%, as published in the Government Gazette of 7 February 2025.

This adjustment to the toll tariffs is effective from 1 March 2025.

SANRAL’s General Manager for Communications and Marketing, Vusi Mona, said the toll revenue is necessary to maintain, operate and improve toll roads, as well as to service debt incurred to implement a toll road project.

“The funds go a long way towards ensuring that SANRAL fulfils its mandate of delivering quality road infrastructure that adds value to the lives of South African citizens,” Mona emphasized.

The Department of Social Development has announced that a total of 203, 279 NPOs, voluntary associations and trusts across South Africa face the risk of deregistration.

This is due to failure to comply with the requirements to submit annual reports as per the provisions of section 18 (1) of the Non-Profit Organisations Act.

“The consequences for non-compliant NPOs are severe as they will no longer be able to access certain privileges such as tax exemption, letters of support and funding from government, donors and private institutions that uphold accountability and the rule of law,” the department said.

ActionSA says it will be writing to the Minister of Employment and Labour, Nomakhosazana M**h, demanding urgent intervention in the alleged corruption and mismanagement plaguing the Compensation Fund and the Unemployment Insurance Fund.

The party claims that these Funds have been turned into slush funds for fraud and maladministration.

"The dignity of our nation’s workers is being systematically stripped away by those entrusted to safeguard their welfare," it said in a statement.

These two Funds are responsible for a combined annual revenue of R46 billion.

The government of South Africa has issued another lacklustre statement in response to Donald Trump's executive order, which makes provision for refugee status to the Boer community.

"It is of great concern that the foundational premise of this order lacks factual accuracy and fails to recognise South Africa’s profound and painful history of colonialism and apartheid.

"We are concerned by what seems to be a campaign of misinformation and propaganda aimed at misrepresenting our great nation. It is disappointing to observe that such narratives seem to have found favour among decision-makers in the United States of America," Dirco stated.

Afriforum has expressed its commitment to remain "at the southern tip of Africa" following an executive order by US President Donald Trump to give Boers a refugee status in America.

According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, the Boer settlers will only be able to continue to exist as a cultural community on South African soil.

"Emigration only offers an opportunity for Afrikaners who are willing to risk sacrificing their descendants' cultural identity as Afrikaners. The price for that is too expensive to pay.

"We also owe it to our ancestors not to nullify their sacrifices, to let Afrikaners as a nation take shape, by giving up our self-existence as Afrikaners," said Kriel at a media briefing on Saturday.
