5 years at my current company

I can’t believe I get to rest and just relax for a bit. I get to sit in our and watch the sunset from our balcony.

I still can’t believe that I came to an interview with a 03 months old baby at the time and we both got the job because we both went for that interview.

It’s been such a beautiful journey that can only remind me from the very beginning that “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu- I am because you are”.

As I wrap things up this week, I’m just filled with so much gratitude. It’s not everyday that you go to work only to end up gaining not just colleagues but a FEMily.

It’s been a beautiful 5 years, now to just relax, read a book, yes I have time on my hands and if you’re looking for me, you’ll definitely find me chilling on our .

Raising him Zunglish

Well, life happened, we haven’t been so much In touch with the Zulu part of him, language wise but I recently bumped into these books from we already had the app and thought it would be a great idea to add these books to the collection and honestly Thingo has been enjoying them so far.

I love that he knows that he is both Zulu and English and is always eager to learn some more Zulu.

Just keeping this here because this boy has been growing so fast lately I can’t keep up he’s also obsessed with babies and has taken it up on himself to ask us for a little sister and a little brother.

Is this phase gonna pass anytime soon? I’m not sure it’s a phase because it’s been a while and for the longest time he was asking for a babysitter but lately he says he wants both at the same time 🤣.

Did your little ones also ask you for siblings?

Do you have that one thing that you told yourself you’ll never buy/ eat ever again?

I told myself I was done with instant porridge when I finished varsity. We go way back from when I was in a boarding school. It was affordable, I mean only R9.99 back then and was one of the things that didn’t need a fridge. If you’ve been to boarding school you’ll know there’s time for everything. Our super was at 17h00, that was the last meal of the day, we still had to attend study till 21h00 if I’m not mistaken, when you come back from study you’re hungry again so we always had a few things in our lockers but after varsity I was honestly over instant porrigde, I was also over Kellogg’s cornflakes and weetbix.

Fast forward 7 years later and here we are, Thingo saw instant porridge while we were doing groceries and cried for it, seems like he had it at his ouma, he insisted on the chocolate flavour I honestly did not want to buy it because of the promise I made to myself in 2016 but kids will humble you.

On the other hand hubby loves weetbix and eats it by himself, I can’t bring myself to trying it again after all those years yet ohh I’m back at cornflakes like I never left, I’m enjoying them so much after all those years😆.

A few hours in KZN

Happiness all around. Left home at 4am for a 6am flight. Can’t get over how expensive it is to travel as a family. You’d swear we went abroad meanwhile we just went to a different province.

The last time the 3 of us were all in Kzn at the sametime was 2 years ago. This year has been filled with a lot of KZN trips though for me and Thingo, thank God for that, It’s our third time here, I love how he lights up when he goes to gogos house.

Here we don’t hold back, we go to the beach in tracksuits and end up swimming. Here we get dirty, we climb trees, we get hurt and try again. A childhood reminder, where kids were still kids and played outside from when the sun goes up till it went down.

I love it here.

A little girl at the playground to me: Is your husband not supposed to be the same colour as you?

Me: Well no, not necessarily, that’s not a must, why?

Her: I see your husband is not the same colour as you, all my family is the same colour as me.

Me: Families don’t have to be the same colour, they don’t have to look the same at all. One day when you grow up you can also choose any husband that you like, they don’t have to be the same colour as you are.

The little ones are the ones that usually knocks me out with these kind of questions and they move on to the next topic pretty fast. I couldn’t even unpack this one for her more but I hope she learnt a thing or 2 for freedoms sake.

How would you answer this question?

I’m sure I could write a book now about all these questions I get, it’s mostly from the little ones these days and they are only out of curiosity🤦🏾‍♀️.

Do you teach your kids about kindness?

It’s the little things that I only see now as an adult that our parents used to teach us. I only see now that, all they wanted was to raise kind kids.

The greeting whenever you pass someone and making sure you stop to ask how they are, whether you know them or not, and offering someone something to drink whenever they come to your house.
I can go on and on but it’s our turn now. Let’s be kind to ourselves and to others. Our kids will learn to be kind to others by just witnessing us.

I hope the limited edition of ice cream flavoured Be Kind gums will motivate you to share kindness.

Time flies.

Mommies of 2018 babies are you okay?

The Western Cape Department of Education is finally open for applications. Managed to submit our boy’s application and crossing fingers we get a yes to atleast our first or 2nd choice. My anxiety levels through this whole thing have been on its peak, now we wait and hope for the best.

Are you also looking for new school for your little ones for next year?

The school search has been really fun, we managed to attend 2 open days without Thingo, he was at his gogos house but luckily we attended our 3rd open day last weekend and he could join us on that one and he had so much fun.

I have to say this feels like an extreme sport here in the Western Cape. I don’t remember searching for a school being so hard🤦🏾‍♀️.
