UPDATE: HEMEL & AARDE VALLEY FIRE: 19 November 2024 at 13h00
Firefighting crew have tirelessly been fighting the fire, which is currently above Chanteclair and Kidbrooke, and burning in Karwyderskraal.
The main objective of the day is to stop the spread of the fire along Div A, where aerial resources and a ground crew (WOF) have been deployed.
Currently there is a plume of smoke over Fisherhaven and Karwyderskraal which makes visibility challenging; the R43 remains open. The status of the fire tells two conflicting stories on either side of the mountain, but teams are still busy, a specialized vehicle has been placed at Fisherhaven for immediate response should the fire descend down the mountain.
Div A: aerial resources, with ground team are bombing along the ridge of the Onrus mountain. The crew is making progress along the line. Aerial will be redeployed once the line is out.
Div B: currently there is a hotspot in the division, but due to inaccessibility the area will be monitored.
Div C: ground teams are busy with an active fireline at Jakalsdans Farm, at this stage no structures are in danger, the head of the fire is burning slowly towards a kloof, the due to accessibility the fire will be monitored from the R43
Resources will be redeployed as the need arise.
