SAPS CAUTIONS PUBLIC ABOUT SCAMMERS USING SAPS DETAILS

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is warning members of the public about a scam circulating in various provinces involving fraudulent letters that falsely appear to originate from the SAPS.

These fake letters, often distributed via WhatsApp, bear the SAPS logo and contain the names, contact details of senior SAPS officers, and, in some instances, the addresses of SAPS offices.

The scammers use this information to deceive recipients into sharing personal details under false pretenses.

The content of the letters is often tailored according to the victim's location, with changes made to names, addresses, and contact persons to make the communication appear authentic.

In certain cases, these WhatsApp messages are preceded by phone calls from individuals posing as police officials, who falsely claim that criminal cases have been opened against the victim.

The SAPS urges the public not to respond to these messages or provide any personal information such as ID numbers, addresses, or banking details.

Please note, the SAPS does not communicate with the public via WhatsApp or video calls.

Anyone who has received or responded to these fraudulent messages is urged to report the matter and open a case at their nearest police station.

Langaville Extension 6 Residents Struggle as Rain Exposes Infrastructure Failures

Recent heavy rains have once again exposed the severe lack of infrastructure development and service delivery in Langaville Extension 6, leaving residents frustrated and desperate for change.

The persistent rainfall over the past few days has turned unpaved roads into muddy traps, making it nearly impossible for cars to pass and pedestrians to walk. Large pools of water and thick mud now dominate the streets, cutting off access to vital services and placing the daily lives of residents on hold.

Vehicle owners in the area say the muddy roads often cause their cars to get stuck, resulting in damage and costly repairs. Parents also express concern about their children, who struggle to get to school under such dangerous and difficult conditions.

The community of Langaville Extension 6 continues to call on local authorities to prioritize proper road infrastructure and consistent service delivery, fearing that if nothing is done, the situation will only worsen during future storms.

Martha Lentintshona the executive director of Hlasempho Community Development Project,is organising a march on the 11April, that March will begin at Kwathema Hall then it will heading to Kwathema Police Station. The reason of the march is to ensure the wellbeing and protection of childrren. FATHER SENTENCED TO TWO LIFE TERMS FOR R**E AND MURDER OF 8-DAY-OLD INFANT

Pretoria, Gauteng – The Pretoria High Court has sentenced Hugo Ferreira, a 37-year-old man from Carletonville to two life terms for the r**e and murder of his 8-days old daughter, Caithlyn Ferreira.

Ferreira and the child’s mother, who were in a relationship, lived together in Welverdiend, Carletonville. On 08 June 2023, the mother left home to sell clothes to buy nappies, entrusting the infant to Ferreira’s care. Before she departed, Ferreira instructed her to return within five minutes as the baby was breastfeeding. When she failed to return on time and the baby began crying, Ferreira, enraged, assaulted, and r**ed the newborn. He used his fingers to violate her and rubbed his private parts against hers, later claiming he was “giving the baby a reason to cry.”

Upon the mother’s return, Ferreira initially hid the injured child and refused to hand her over. The mother then called the police. As he was handing the baby over in the presence of the police, her injuries became evident. Ferreira was arrested immediately, and the infant was rushed to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day.

In court, Ferreira pleaded guilty to the charges of r**e and murder, and said he acted out of anger toward the mother. During sentencing, he requested the court to deviate from imposing the prescribed minimum sentence, arguing that his guilty plea saved court time and demonstrated remorse. Prosecutor Advocate Andre Wilsenach strongly opposed this and asked for life imprisonment. He said Ferreira’s the acts were heinous, and he committed them against his own defenceless 8-day-old baby to spite the mother for her delay. Wilsenach emphasized Ferreira’s role as the biological father, who should have protected his child, not abused his position to harm her. Adv Wilsenach also highlighted Ferreira’s criminal history, including five previous convictions, one for assault.

Police Turn Down Memorandum While Bonolo's Family Seeks Justice: "It Must Be Written In Black and White"

As the family of Bonolo Moloi and the community of Tsakane fight for justice for Bonolo (16), Tsakane Police refused to accept the memorandum of demands handed over by the community, saying it must be written in black and white.

A powerful protest led by the Pan Africanist Student Organisation took place at Mponeng Park as learners from various high schools in Kwatsaduza gathered in unity. The protestors marches to the Tsakane Police Station to submit a memorandum demanding justice for Bonolo.

Paso Coordinator Ntokozo Vincent Dhladhla addressed the crowd at Mponeng Park before the march proceeded, outlining the purpose of the march. He stated that the learners and community members were demanding answers from the police regarding the progress of Bonolo's case. Dhladhla emphasized a broader crisis, highlighting the ongoing failure to protect young girls in the community.
“Bonolo’s body was not discovered by the police, but by the community and I strongly believe that if the community did not take charge, even now Bonolo would be missing", said Dhladhla.

He further stressed that this issue could not be addressed by the police alone. The district education office had also been invited to account for the lack of government-provided school transportation, which forces many learners to walk long distances through unsafe areas to reach school.
Dhladhla also called on the local ward councillor to answer for the neglected state of the bridge where Bonolo’s body was found, demanding accountability from all relevant authorities.

The South African Police Service and Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department closely monitored the peaceful demonstration as the learners moved toward the police station.

Once at the station, the marching learners assembled outside the gate, waiting for authorities to receive their memorandum. However, Tsakane SAPS Colonel Patrick Mabuza informed the protesters that he would only be able to respond to the demands if the memorandum was presented in black and white. He urged them to bring it back once it was printed.

Despite the document not being formally printed, the protestors continued to pose direct and urgent questions to colonel Mabuza regarding Bonolo’s case, seeking immediate answers and accountability.

Bonolo’s twin sister Bonang Moloi, accompanied by their father, Ernest Radebe was present at the protest. Bonang expressed her disbelief at the large crowd that had come out in support of her family, visibly moved by the solidarity and call for justice.

Paso agreed to return to the police station to hand over a formal memorandum of demands as they seek justice for Bonolo.
Currently there is no new evidence regarding the case.
