Former Apartheid Regime President, FW de Klerk dies.
The former President of the Apartheid regime, FW De Klerk has died at the age of 85. De Klerk died today, 11 November 2021 at his home in Fresnaye, Cape Town after a long battle with cancer.
President Cyril Ramaphosa released a statement today on the passing of former Deputy President and former President. Ramphosa offered his sincere condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren.
“My thoughts are also with Mr De Klerk‘s friends and associates and the management, and staff of the FW de Klerk‘s foundation.” Said Ramaphosa
He added that De Klerk played a vital role in the transition to democracy in the 1990‘s, which originated from his first meeting in 1989 with the late President Nelson Mandela who was a political prisoner at that stage.
“He took the courageous decision to unban political parties, release political prisoners and enter into negotiations with the liberation movement amid severe pressure to the contrary from many in his political constituency.” He said
On the other hand South Africans from politicians to celebrities have expressed their mixed views over the passing of the former and last Apartheid Regime President.
The leader of Pan Africanist Congress (PAC), Mzwanele Nyontso said “ We don’t care about De Klerk‘s death, our hearts are with his victims, the families he killed, the Africans he hanged and particularly the kids he killed in 1993 and confessed to it.”
“We wish him that his remains are thrown in the sea but of course not the African water” Nyontso said in a video
Actress, Pearl Thusi, went to social media also expressing her views over the passing of De Klerk saying De Klerk‘s funeral must be disrupted if declared state funeral.
“If De Klerk gets a state funeral that will be a huge middle finger to the people who suffered under the Apartheid regime in this country.” She added
