ICAN UYO AND DISTRICT SOCIETY ENDS YEAR 2023 WITH MAIDEN GET-TOGETHER PARTY
Featuring Indoor Games, Raffle Draws, Dancing Competition, Presentation of Prizes & Welcoming of Newly Inducted Members

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Uyo and District Society has brought her activities for the year 2023 to an end with a maiden get-together party which climaxed with presentation of gifts items to members who participated in different competition that added color to the epoch making occasion.
The jamboree which was held at the play grounds of the prestigious Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Center, Uyo the Akwa Ibom State capital on Saturday the 16th of December featured welcoming of Newly inducted members, speeches, indoor games, dancing competitions by participants which includes ICAN members, their spouses and children.
Declaring the event open, the chairman on the occasion, Elder (Hon.) Udo Sam Umoatan, FCA who is also the chairman of ICAN Uyo and District Society stated that the gathering became necessary to bring members and their families together to wine and dine to reduce stress of work overtime and refresh their minds for the works ahead.
While thanking God who have been with members in their various areas of assignments in the year 2023 to identify their hidden talents, noted that ICAN is a brand that cannot be hidden and "when you see us gather like this is because we recognize that brand and we are ready to promote that brand, so we gather here to celebrate the Christmas as ICAN family and I can assure you that next year edition will be bigger ".
Also speaking shortly after presentation of the newly inducted members into the profession, an elder in the profession, Chief Sunday Okon, FCA noted that the essence of every Accountant is to be a Chartered Accountant if they are to be relevant and graduated to become a fellow after 6-11 years of serious training depending if they are practitioner or not.
"But let me advise you today, if you want to be academician, you have to go back to school and have your Ph.D but if you want to be a Chartered Accountant, you must be in the practice, practice is what keeps the profession going."
" So qualifying to become ICAN members today is one thing, making relevant the qualification is another thing. So I welcome you and I urged you to keep the ethics of the profession because that is what makes you a Chartered Accountant and I asked you to do your best so that we will be proud of you as the future leaders of the profession in the state", says Chief Sunday Okon.
In her own admonition, Lady Apostle Eme-Ete Imuk, FCA recounted experience of her journey in the profession to became the first registered ICAN member at the time the Accountant General was the only member of ICAN in the District, advised the new members to upgrade their academic qualifications as having the needed academic qualifications had help her to become permanent secretary and acting accountant general of Akwa Ibom State.
According to her, passing ICAN exam is one thing, having integrity is another as some people would want to outsmart whereas slow and steady they say wins the race and therefore charged them to protect their integrity and should guide against illegal use of their signature, as it is what will speak well of them.
"The practice is broad, so as a Chartered Accountant, you can move to become Accountant General, a Governor or National Assembly members or you can serve as adviser to lawmakers on public accounts issues and for you to be able to function accordingly, you have to broaden your horison", says Lady Imuk.
On his part, Eld Eteyen Ikpong, FCA who observed that screening exercise for intending members always followed the ICAN guidelines without fear or favour, while welcoming them on board, advised them to be submissive and learn wherever they are posted to rather than running to where they will make fast money.
"Money is not the number one thing, but if you are willing to stay and learn you will rise to become who you want to be in the future, I retired as a full Director and I didn't mind that I started work under an OND holder even as a Chartered Accountant but I learned the job and along the line you will be posted to here and there and you will work and get your money ", Eteyen emphasized.
On her part, the 10th Chairman of ICAN Uyo and District Society, Deaconess Eno Akpan, FCA while describing accounting as a noble profession, noted that ICAN is still rigorous in nature and urged the inductees to aimed higher as there is more rooms at the top.
She placed great emphasis on self improvement as becoming member comes with high expectations from the group and the public.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the ICAN Uyo and District Society, Elder (Hon.) Udo Sam Umoatan, FCA have stated that there is so much to gain from being a member of ICAN and therefore charged the new members to work towards identifying with activities of the Uyo and District Society as a necessity and contribute their quarters to promote, protect and develop the brand ICAN as professionals and practitioners, and urged members to guide against issues that will take them to Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for questioning by protecting their names and ICAN as a brand.
Speaking with our reporter, one of the new members Ekemini Akpan, ACA expressed her thanks to God and leadership of the ICAN Uyo and District Society for finding them worthy to be full members of the Institute, "I feel so happy, I feel elated, I feel so honored and am very grateful to God to have been qualified to be welcome into ICAN Uyo and District Society as a member and I am ready to go further in my profession and qualifications".
The event commenced with an indoor games competition featuring, Ludo, Chess, Craft, Nsa Isong, Whot and Scrabble, and at the end, winners in the games competition were announced accordingly, Eteyen Ikpong - Nsa Isong, Ediomi Elvis - Whot, Iniobong Essien - Ludo and Joseph Okpoiso - Scrabble while Draft and Chess game ended inconclusive.
Highpoints of the get-together was presentation of gifts to winners of the game competition as well as those who participated in raffle draw who went home with different items too.
Reacting, the winner of the star prize, the Chairperson of the Society for Women Accountant of Nigeria (SWAN), the women wing of the society, Josephine Ebe, ACA who went home with a generating set having purchased a ticket of N1000, in an interview expressed happiness for the achievement, while commending the process as being fair, lauded the initiative of organizers of the get-together and prayed for greater heights for the organization.
Consequently, the secretary of the planning committee for the event, Mr Itohowo Pedro, ACA Mr. Itoho-owo Pedro, ACA while giving the vote of thanks, appreciated the leadership of ICAN UDS for the noble initiative. He also thank all the sponsors of the event. He went further to appreciate all the ICAN members and their wonderful families. He also acknowledged the enormous contributions of the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Gabriel Ukpeh, FCA and other members of the committee.
The maiden get-together party of the ICAN Uyo and District Society came and gone but the memory especially in the heart of the children and families of ICAN members will remain evergreen as it afforded the kids opportunity to catch fun at the children playground of Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Center while their parents exchanges good moments with fellow participants in dancing and more.
