Looking back on Prairie Fire's first season
The first season of Prairie Fire had us meeting Paralympian Susannah Scaroni, musician Candy Foster, and artist Preston Jackson; traveling to places like Arcadia, America’s playable arcade museum, and Taylor Studios, which bring museums to life; touring the newly remodeled governor’s mansion with Illinois First Lady M.K Pritzker; and learning more about the Underground Railroad and its history here in Illinois. Our Prairie Fire team even got creative with a reanimating of author Charles Dickens—with the help of a Champaign-based actor.
Season 2 premieres Sept 19 on WILL-TV, the PBS App, and YouTube.
Deputy who killed Sonya Massey in Springfield was discharged from Army for serious misconduct
Invisible Institute investigative reporters Sam Stecklow and Farrah Anderson dug deep into record of Sean Grayson, the now former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed Sonya Massey. Grayson has been charged with first-degree murder and Massey’s death has garnered national attention — from a statement from President Biden to the representation by high-profile civil rights attorney Ben Crump. But did you know Grayson was discharged from the Army for serious misconduct or that he's worked for six police departments across central Illinois since 2020? Here's what we know now and what Farrah and Sam hope to uncover as their reporting continues for IPM News and Invisible Institute at http://ipmnewsroom.org and http://invisibleinstitute.com. #sonyamassey
