This is what you get with poor planning and ignorance. It’s time for pickathon to move to a bigger better prepared venue. The organizers should know that foster road is too busy and too fast for this without proper preparation. This driveway is only approved for agricultural use and the cars are parked on wetlands. Where is the city of happy valley? Was there a permit issued?

While it may be Distracted Driving Awareness month, distractions are at play for anyone using the road. Whether you’re driving, biking, or walking, distraction-related incidents are on the rise. For those on foot, it’s important to keep your head up and your focus on where you’re headed. Put your phone away and make sure you are being vigilant when it comes to approaching cars.

Tonight, City Council took a moment to acknowledge Happy Valley resident, Marcus Week, and present him with the Distinguished Life Saving Award.

On November 29, 2021, he was out for a walk when he noticed a local student was experiencing a serious mental health crisis and contemplating ending her life. Mr. Week stayed with her, offering compassion and reassurance until first responders arrived. Were it not for his quick action and his willingness to support her in her darkest moment, it is quite possible the student may not be here today.

Tonight we are reminded that there are people every day who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. As demonstrated by Mr. Week's actions that day, it only takes one person to save a life.

Our condolences to the family and friends of Melanie Ward. A local business owner who left a mark on this community.

A public memorial is being held on March 15th at 4:30pm at Good Shephard Community Church in Boring. The memorial will also be live streamed if you wish to watch from home: Memorial.gshep.us

To our Country Coffee family, thank you so much for your continued support through this incredibly difficult time.

On behalf of Melanie’s family, we would like to share the information below and their sincerest gratitude for your outpouring of love, and for continuing to respect their privacy as they navigate through this immense loss.

Melanie Elizabeth Ward
November 20, 1991 – March 4, 2022

To know her was to love her. A daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife, a loving mother, a best friend. Melanie was a bright light in this world.

Melanie was born in Portland, Oregon, on November 20, 1991, to Denise Meyers and Greg Osburn. Melanie attended Walt Morey Middle School in Troutdale, where she met Mitch, the boy who would become the man of her dreams, her best friend, husband, and the father of their beautiful children. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 2010 and continued her education and received her bachelor’s degree in business from Warner Pacific University.

While earning her business degree, Melanie pursued a career in coffee and purchased Country Coffee, a stand in Boring, Oregon. Country Coffee was a small business that she built into a thriving and successful franchise. By 2022 she expanded Country Coffee to include seven total locations, franchise owners, a mobile event coffee trailer, a roasting company, and so much more to come-- projects, plans and a legacy that will be carried on by her family and Country Coffee team. While building her small business empire, Melanie was a community advocate, constantly supporting local charities and elevating young entrepreneurs and small business owners to new heights. Mel loved seeing others succeed.

To say Melanie was adored by everyone is an understatement. She was loved profoundly because she loved deeply and shined her light on everyone around her. Melanie was a beautiful spitfire, extremely funny, so humble and incredibly giving. She enjoyed boating, camping, and all outdoor activities. Most of all, Melanie cherished family and she always put her loved ones first. While Mel was incredibly driven and hardworking, with so many impressive accomplishments as a young adult, Mel's biggest accomplishment and deepest love was for her twin babies. She loved being a mom! Her dreams and devotion for them remain alive in her spirit and carried on by her husband, family and loved ones.

Melanie is survived by her husband and partner of 15 years, Mitch Ward, and her beautiful babies Brooklyn and Mitchell Ward; her sister Tatum Lindhorst; her parents Greg Osburn, Denise and Brad Meyers; and her grandparents Jane Osburn, and Ross and Margie Meyers.
__________________________
On Tuesday, March 15, the family will host a private funeral and burial. A public memorial service to honor the life of Mel will follow later that afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Community Church in Boring, 28989 SE Halsey Road. The memorial will also be live streamed if you wish to watch from home: Memorial.GShep.us

The family requests that we shower Melanie with flowers for her memorial.

UPDATE: The owner has been found! Cows are headed home.

So…How’s everyone’s day going? We found some cows out for a casual Saturday stroll along 172nd.

While we’re all for getting out and about, we’re pretty sure these cows have taken a wrong turn and meandered away from home. Anyone happen to know their owners? If so, message us and we’ll get you in touch with our Community Service Officer who has joined forces with a helpful resident to contain them on some nearby property until they are located.
