Josh Schroeder, Producer Josh Schroeder is a music producer, engineer, and songwriter with a full service studio in Michigan. This is where pure identity is captured.

Josh Schroeder is a Billboard #1 producer from Midland, Michigan. He has produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered breakout albums for Lorna Shore, King 810, The Plot In You, Dayseeker, Varials, In Hearts Wake, Tallah, Ghost Bath, The Color Morale, and many others. Nail The Mix invited Josh to demonstrate the mix techniques he used on several of his acclaimed records, including King 810, Tallah, a

nd Lorna Shore. His work spans hundreds of millions of streams across Spotify and YouTube. Josh’s production philosophy in his own words:

“Identity is the most important quality you have as an artist. It’s what separates great artists from merely competent ones. My first goal as a producer is to understand where that identity comes from, and while there are many goals afterwards in terms of establishing great drum tones, guitar effects, vocal production, mixing, etc., the final goal is to make sure that core identity doesn’t get lost along the way. Too often, bands chase some unattainable perfection of sound at the cost of polishing away all of the interesting little quirks that make them unique as artists. I’ve found that the more comfortable I can help make an artist feel in the studio, and the more confidence we can foster in each other as a team, the more they will open up and express themselves freely in their music. As someone who plays guitar, bass, drums, piano, engineers, mixes, masters, and writes music and lyrics, I have a broad perspective on my records that is sympathetic to everyone’s role, value, and voice in the process. It is that coalescing of musical personalities that creates something greater than the sum of its parts.”

Josh Schroeder started “Random Awesome! Recording Studio” in 2008 after a friend said, “you could take any random band and make them sound awesome.”

Looks like I gonna say it again:

VIDEO PEOPLE - please credit the audio people in your MUSIC videos.

I just watched another high profile music video on youtube where the WATER TRUCK DRIVER on set got credit.... but no audio producers, engineers, mixing, or mastering people mentioned.

Like, I'm 100% all for EVERYONE getting credit when it comes to a MUSIC video, but not crediting the MUSIC people is tacky and been going on way too long.

Imagine if the roles were reversed. Music video gets shot first, then it's up to me to write and record music to the cues from the video. But once I'm done, I upload it and only credit myself and my other audio engineers and credit nobody who shot, edited, and did all the video work.

Feels scummy, right?

Do better, video people. If you are going to credit everyone, credit EVERYONE.

Got a playlist where I add songs I've worked on that have cracked 1,000,000 or more streams. Pretty cool to look back and see what songs cracked through, which new ones have caught fire, and which old songs have had a resurgence lately.

Very proud of everyone in every band who put so much work into these songs.

pro tip: zip up your stems/multi-tracks/session files BEFORE uploading them to google drive, dropbox, wherever.

1. saves time and data caps for uploading
2. saves space in your cloud storage
3. saves time downloading for the end user

Nothing brings me more satisfaction than working on records that kick off a band's career. Especially bands who've been at it as long as Of Virtue.

Ted was always great to work with. Sad to hear about this today.

Thankful for all the hours we spent on the phone bullsh*tting about music, pinball, and how to be better citizens of earth. He was super passionate about being a voice against animal cruelty through his music.

Great guy, great cause. You’ll be missed, friend.

This is Cristy, Ted’s wife. I have some very sad news to share. My beloved husband went to be with the Lord today, August 19, 2022. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. It was a blessing to see first-hand Ted’s amazing passion for so many things that captivated him for life, and it was humbling to stand by and witness his genius, creativity and seemingly never-ending natural talent. I know many of you are broken-hearted and certainly Ted’s wish would be to celebrate his memory through his music through Tourniquet.

About 4 months ago, Ted was experiencing chest pain and unusual shortness of breath. Up until this point, Ted had not been in a hospital in 40 years and all covid tests came up negative, to the end. After several doctor visits to a general practitioner, Ted was referred to see a pulmonologist who conducted many tests and an accurate diagnosis was made of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a rare terminal lung disease of which there is no cure.

IPF is a serious disease that causes irreversible scarring of the lungs and progresses, or gets worse, over time. This scarring makes it difficult to breathe and eventually the lungs can’t inhale enough oxygen for the body to function properly. Typically, IPF causes severe shortness of breath to where the simplest activities of walking across a room seem nearly impossible.

Ted was able to share a few thoughts the night before he passed.

“My life has been so full of adventure and wonderment and for the past 30 years all of you have been a great source of joy as you shared your love for our music, my passion for animals, and my desire to share the love of God with all of you. I’m forever grateful for the unending loyalty so many have shown through the years and support of whatever talents the Lord gave me on this earth.

I leave behind so many wonderful friends, my wonderful family, the greatest family anyone could ask for, my brothers, Doug & Jim, my sister Sue, and my wife Cristy, my forever soul mate, my best friend and the most beautiful person I’ve ever known.

Thank you and I’ll see you sometime on the other side. Love, Ted”

I’ll appreciate your prayers, Cristy

It’s been an amazing time working with these people. I’m already sad we only have a few weeks left.

We are having the best time in Michigan, creating magic and bonding over this incredible experience. In our history, we've never spent an elongated amount of time in the middle of nowhere recording an album. This has been ultra rewarding in so many ways. We wake up together, go to the studio together, create together, cheer each other on, go home together, make dinner together, eat and reflect on the day together, workout together, and relax together. We only have a couple of weeks left here and we can not wait to show you what we've built. We feel so incredibly lucky to be working with Josh Schroeder, Producer; his talents know no bounds and we've all been creatively pushed to be better and more solid musicians without limits.
Cheers to a year full of metal and new experiences 🙏❤️🙏

I had the honor of mixing this legendary actor's voice on Tourniquet's "Onward To Freedom". Thanks for all your amazing contributions to the arts and to animal welfare. Rest easy.

Ed Asner, who played the key voice role in the acclaimed 2009 animated film Up as well as a gruff newsman in the classic TV series The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spinoff Lou Grant, dies aged 91.
