❤️”Love is the strongest force the world possesses & yet it is the humblest imaginable.” Mahatma Gandhi.”
Today marks Winter Solstice, my favorite winter day; “thought to hold powerful energy for regeneration, renewal & personal awakening.” The following is mine.
Along with the joy of celebrating the Christmas season, December holds a special place in my heart as it was both my Mom & Dad’s Birthdays. And even though I wasn’t a child when I lost my parents I might just as well have been. It seems to me when it comes to losing someone we love we are all children ~ in one way or another.
After my parents passed I embarked on a self imposed, introspective journey into the meaning of life & loss. I asked questions & I prayed for answers; “What can I do as a way to celebrate & honor & the lives of those who are no longer with us?” And lo & behold my prayers were answered & my personal awakening followed: Hospice had found me. I am certain my Mom & Dad played a pivotal role in my request to go into the sacred space of any child in Hospice care as well as any home where a child was in the process of losing a loved one. A beloved 30 year career as a preschool teacher & puppeteer prepared me for the larger picture that launched a decade that would become some of the most humbling, privileged & blessed years of my life.
(My first Hospice visit was not without ‘coincidence’ as it was in December, on what would have been my Dad’s Birthday).
The culmination of the ineffable love & respect I have for children came to life in the form of my “Caring for” series. They are books tenderly written for all of us with the hope they might lend gentle comfort in the knowing that light & hope hide even in the deepest & darkest of times .. ❤️sweetechostories.com
