Pretty Much Geeks Love all things 'Geek'? So do we! We are a bunch of humans who like to watch movies, play games, and dress up as our favourite characters.

Other humans like to call us geeks. Which is pretty much true. Yeah, we're pretty much geeks.

1978 Superman director Richard Donner said. “The day we saw [Superman truly seem to] fly for the first time, there was dead silence. A couple of guys that ran the flying unit were crying because it was so good.”

I just watched the new Antman movie, and I just cannot bring myself to believe that anyone would have burst into tears on the set of Antman. Even the new intern who got his or her first big break was probably just smiling a lot. It's like there is now an inverse relationship between the quality of the effects and the emotional impact in modern movies. Am I onto something or am I overreacting? -nick

Wednesday is a worker.

Or what I should say is Jenna Ortega is. The filming schedule was horrendous. “I did not get any sleep. I pulled my hair out. There’s so many FaceTime calls that my dad answered of me hysterically crying.”

“It was show up to set two hours early, do that 12-14 hour day, then go home and then get on a Zoom and have whatever lesson that I had. Or show up to my apartment, my cello teacher was already waiting for me. It was just constantly going, and if you could on a weekend, if we weren’t shooting the sixth day that week, it was ‘All right, well then, we’ll get your lessons in on that day.’”

Fencing and cello lessons a couple of months prior to filming, continuing during the eight-month shoot in Romania.

“We started running out of time because Wednesday’s in pretty much every scene. They had to start using stunt doubles or occasionally cello doubles if they didn’t have time to get hands, but I was very adamant about being as well prepared as possible because I wanted them to be able to use myself, because that’s so much more believable if you could see your face.”

And also she had COVID while shooting the iconic Wednesday dance! As most of us has already seen that dance as its everywhere on the socials. Perhaps now, like me you will see it with new eyes! -nick

I saw M3gan now I want another.
I love the uncanny valley thing. I rewatched A.I. recently too. Just to get in the mood.

Cons:
- 48hour film festival level acting
- Average script
- Not scary enough

Pros:
- M3gan. Her styling is just perfect.
- M3gan. The transition from real actor to plastic doll was awesome.
- M3gan. Spontaneously singing Titanium by Sia was my favorite moment.

Have you all seen it yet? What did you think? -nick
P.S. They are making another M3gan 2.0 yesssssss

Joker: Folie a Deux first image.
Not gonna lie, I'm super excited about this project. I read Lady Gaga is now involved. And playing Harley Quinn..? I'm looking forward to that real world variant to fit into this movie. I love how I have no idea what the storyline might be. Is this something you are all looking forward too? -nick

The posters are everywhere!
Firstly are you keen? I'm keen to go with a group of friends that way I can laugh and wow at any bits that require them.
Secondly if you are keen will you IMAX it? I want to as my favorite part of the first Avatar where the visuals. The fauna and flora, the animals. So why not heighten the best parts and see it at an IMAX.
Thirdly, Is this going to be the biggest movie this Christmas? Surely It must be, what's the competition? - nick

Marvel-ization of Hollywood.

Quentin Tarantino - “You have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they're not movie stars. Right? Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. It's these franchise characters that become a star. And so it's just the fact that they are the entire representation of this era of movies right now. There's not really much room for anything else.”

I think we are coming to the end of it. I’ve been bored of it for a while. And there has been other movies but has their spotlight been dimmed for being made at this time? I’m really looking forward to seeing The Whale with Brendan Fraiser.

Do you think this superhero era is a dry spell for movies or do you think he’s just whining?

Emily Blunt has a message for script writers!
She’s bored of these strong female lead-type characters!
“It’s the worst thing ever when you open a script and read the words ‘strong female lead,’ That makes me roll my eyes. I’m already out. I’m bored. Those roles are written as incredibly stoic, you spend the whole time acting tough and saying tough things. It’s reductive. It’s just as much a shaving off of all the nuances, and just as much of a trope. It’s a box that nobody fits into. Even the phrase is frustrating. It’s as if we’re supposed to be grateful that we get to be that.”
I think she is a fantastic actor and for me ill be keeping an eye out for whatever future role chooses. As you know it will be a really interesting character. What do you think of what she had to say? -nick

Yay! This seems like fun! What character do you wanna see. I miss the trash heap. -nick

God of War: Ragnarök 💪 reviews have dropped so here's a spoiler-free summary of mine!

First up, if you really enjoyed the story of the first game, Ragnarök is an excellent follow up. It doesn't repeat arcs, or go back on anything, but instead every character and even the main plotline has a natural progression from the first game. As in the first game the writing has, for the most part, really impressed me. It takes care with sensitive topics, like murdering a friend's son, and is not afraid to give (a lot of) space to moments of silence. I did find that in the beginning there was a significant amount of plot dump, but epic battles were lobbed in here and there to balance out the cutscene-to-game ratio.

Unfortunately, the developers have the problem of following up a game that, may I remind you, won Game of the Year in 2018, a year filled with fricken fantastic games. So while I think they successfully made a great sequel, I don't think they made a greater game. It's so hard to recreate the magic of a game you've never experienced before when you've already experienced it. So I can't blame them, I just want to simmer the hype down. In any case, it's definitely a game worth buying and playing. I've been having a lot of fun getting smashed by draugr and having a go at some Norse gods. And I have definitely been delightfully surprised with some gameplay narrative changes.

A full video review will be coming out soon where I'll be going into more detail, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Black Adam
Saw it last night. I wasn't that motivated to go but the Rock is usually fun to watch, others were going so fine. Lets give it a go here is my quick list form review.

Pros - Pretty Good CGI and there is vast amounts of it. The Rock was pretty Rocky.

Cons - Just whole series of effects and characters with abilities you have seen before
and done in a more interesting way.
So surprisingly uncreative visually but also narratively as I really didn't care
what happened to any of them.
There was so much fighting with no consequences to any of the heroes that
there was very little tension generated by these endless battles.

The Rock as Black Adam was to be the point of difference but by the end he was almost neutered to the state of everyone else. I didn't hate the movie
it makes me feel like we must be coming to the end of these movies that don't really try or say anything different. -nick

What are people watching right now?

I’m still battling through Rings of Power. I had hopes after ep3 but 4 and 5 squashed then pretty hard. 6 was better but I’m just so baffled by how the characters are written. What I have Discover recently is Andor! I’m really getting into it. I think its beautifully made and with the writing feels so much better. I can just enjoy the ride whereas with Rings I feel like I’m holding my breath the whole time. I haven't felt this good about a Star Wars project for so long. What do you all think? Where have you made your TV home?

A condensed version of my full review for Cult of the Lamb by Massive Monster!

I loved this game. It felt like a blend of Don’t Starve, a Tamagotchi and a dungeon crawler. Which are all things I enjoy and it blended these things in the most perfect way possible to create a fun and challenging path to victory.

I don’t want to give too much of the journey away, but essentially you are a possessed lamb, exploring lands filled with hostile followers of other cults who you MUST destroy. There can be only one cult after all. You must recruit followers for your own cult, keep them housed and watered, perform rituals, give sermons and lead them through various doctrines, which you unlock along the way, by nurturing their loyalty.

Different buildings and upgrades are unlocked through the devotion of your followers. So the more critters you recruit and have worship at your statue, the faster you can be pimping out your base. I’m a sucker for a skill tree and getting to choose which building developments to invest in and being able to ignore certain skill paths
altogether gives the game enough variety and strategy for a second or third playthrough

If you’re thinking of starting a cult and you’re not ready to kill and eat the elderly, Cult of the Lamb may not be for you...😅🫣 - Saskia
