It's publication day for Harvard Business School Professor Emeritus Mike Beer! As indicated in the title of his memoir, Mike considers himself the product of three different nationalities: the Germany of his parents; the Palestine in which he spent his childhood during World War II; and America, the land to which he immigrated when he was eleven years old. His memoir begins and ends with glimpses of the Statue of Liberty: one when he first spotted it from the deck of a repurposed military troop carrier after a ten-day transatlantic crossing and the other six decades later when he ducked out of a conference at which he was speaking as an expert in industrial organizational psychology to go sightseeing. It was a complicated project but an extremely worthwhile one, and I'm so glad he chose me as his collaborator!
