Writers Corner Live 🎥 Episode 15 features Elle Lewis author of Dark Touch, produced by Bridgetti Lim Banda and co-hosted by Mary E Jackson (author Poohlicious series) About Elle Lewis I am a cardiology nurse by profession. My background is Electrophysiology - which is a fancy way of saying the electric system of the heart. I take care of patient's with very sick hearts, in the worst times of their lives. It is an emotionally taxing job but one that is also very rewarding. It's funny to be in such a serious profession - one that is scientific and medical. I often joke that both sides of my brain work because I am also extremely creative and have a huge imagination. I'm always daydreaming, mostly about monsters. I love books so very much. I love stories. Adventures. I love to be taken out of this world and pulled into another. Dark Touch is just the kind of book that I like to read. Because my job is so serious I often gravitate towards books that are fast paced, action packed, and an easy read. An entertaining escape. Dark Touch is a fun read, but it does have a deeper more serious tone. I grew up in a very volatile domestic violent house hold. My mother to this day has substance abuse problems. I have essentially been on my own since I was 15. The protagonist of the story, Sloan, has a similar background. The book is fun and yes, it has fantastical elements and lots of action. But at its heart it is a very human story about a girl struggling with her past. How to heal from wounds that seem like they will never close. This more serious tone is woven gradually throughout the book. It is a piece of my heart that I have placed within the pages. And I hope those going through similar struggles will read it and know that they can overcome these circumstances and find strength and hope. The message of the book is that our past does not have to define our future. Many of the characters (who are in their early twenties) have an absent parent of some sort. So many chil

Her first novel is “Equal And Opposite Reactions,” a romantic comedy about the chain of events that follows when a newly divorced, financially struggling young mother and an angry, bitter plumber who shows up to fix her broken toilet learn to their shock that they have something dismally in common. The story is set in Northeast Philadelphia where she grew up (and knew most of the characters in my novel, including the plumber). “Equal And Opposite Reactions” started out as a short story that was published under the title “He Looked Nothing Like Prince Charming” in the July, 1994 issue of First For Women. She spent a dozen or so years expanding the story into a novel which, when it reached 113,286 words was, she figured, it was probably about as finished as it was going to get. Patti’s published some short stories and a locally-produced play called “The Cosmic Oy,” She also co-wrote a Western musical comedy called “The Town Of Hard Times” about a parcel of mail-order brides that gets delivered to the wrong address. She also writes a daily blog, “Ailantha,” in which Patti, a visitor to this planet, chronicles her travels and events which she hopes her fellow visitors might find of interest. It soon became apparent that the new-born had a rare disease confounding specialists and sending his parents, Melissa and Fred Platt on an emotional roller-coaster ride as his condition was misdiagnosed several times. His distraught parents stood by Sam’s side and advocated for his needs, whilst feeling ignored by some of the health care professionals assigned to Sam’s care. Sam’s parents managed to get a second opinion and secured a transfer from the Johannesburg hospital that Sam had been in for over a year to a hospital in Cape Town. Sam received the proper diagnosis and started to make small yet significant steps to recovery. Just when Sam was about to be given the all clear to go home, after spending fifteen and a half months in ICU, he died. Fred Platt writes honestly about his experiences as Sam’s dad. Fred shares the 7 lessons he learnt during this darkest period of his life which have fundamentally changed his perspective on everything, being human, business and relationships.
