Yumnam Joykumar Singh, former deputy CM & DGP, Manipur:👇

Biren Singh acted as chief minister of only one community. The issue could have been resolved early on, but it escalated due to the interests of a few individuals. The situation worsened after the High Court’s order to include Meiteis in the ST list. It was clear that violence was imminent, and it could have been managed as a law and order issue. Instead of addressing it as such, the government turned it into an ethnic conflict between the Meiteis and the Kukis. The role of Arambai Tenggol in the violence was evident, and police arsenals were made available to them.

Biren Singh is a dictator': Yumnam Joykumar Singh, former deputy CM and DGP, Manipur.

Singh says Biren has the backing of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

🛑 Why are people attacking the residences of ministers and MLAs? Biren Singh was once seen as someone guarding Meitei interests.

👉 People have understood Biren Singh’s true motives. Trust in him has eroded, and there is a widespread desire for normalcy and peace. Arambai Tenggol [a Meitei organisation] threatened booth agents of the Congress, yet the Congress candidate won [in the Lok Sabha polls]. Now, the public is taking to the streets in protest against this government. If this continues, the Congress is likely to sweep the next assembly elections. Biren Singh used Manipur’s issues for personal gain, and it has backfired. What we are witnessing on the streets and in the attacks on the ministers’ and MLAs’ residences is a direct result of this.

🛑 People are complaining that armed groups are engaging in extortion.

👉 Initially, people supported Arambai Tenggol, but now they are not receiving any donations. As a result, they are threatening businessmen and others for money. The government signed a peace agreement with the valley-based insurgent group UNLF (Pambei faction), but has not decided on a rehabilitation package. They are also engaging in similar extortion. Manipur has become lawless, and that is why people are calling it state-sponsored extortion.

🛑 What was the biggest mistake made by Biren Singh as chief minister?

👉 He acted as chief minister of only one community.

🛑 What is Biren Singh’s role in Arambai Tengol?

👉 He is one of the key figures behind the formation of this organisation, which has now become a private militia. Biren Singh anticipated a situation where he would not receive support from the central leadership, and in such a scenario, he needed a force to manage everything. This is how Arambai Tenggol came into being. Now, they are forcefully convening meetings of Meitei MLAs, threatening lawmakers, manhandling them, and creating an atmosphere of fear.

🛑 Why hasn’t Biren Singh been removed, even after his own MLAs approached the central leadership?

👉 He has the support of Home Minister Amit Shah, though I have no insight into their relationship. If such a situation had occurred anywhere else in the country, the chief minister would have been removed.

Robin Mangang Khawirakpam, the leader of Arambai Tenggol, who once boasted about his cadres and strength while threatening to wipe out the Kukis within a week, is now in tears 😅😃

It has been almost two years, but the Meitei threat to wipe out the Kukis within a week now seems to be taking an eternity. Perhaps this realization has hit hard (hurt) Robin, the supreme leader of Arambai Tenggol, as the Kukis have proven to be too strong.

If this is true, it marks a significant development for the Kukis, as it will strengthen the momentum of the movement.

At this critical juncture, as we face an existential crisis and fight for our survival, we must remain united and resilient. We have no other option but to stand firm, strong, and resolute in our demands.

"If the Kukis do not achieve a separate administration, their survival in this world will be under serious threat".

Therefore, this is not a matter of choice or preference—it has become a necessity for survival to demand a separate administration.

Seeing our MLAs come together in unity gives us great hope; it feels like a light at the end of the tunnel.

I am hopeful that we will continue to grow stronger and move forward progressively in the future.

🫵 Why is the Chief Minister, Mr. Biren, now calling this shameful? Was it not the same when they were looting Kuki properties in Imphal?

Since they were encouraged and protected to loot Kuki properties, now that those have been completely plundered, they have started looting among themselves.

This is what happens when such actions are not stopped early – once a thief, always a thief.

'Biren Singh Couldn't Bring Peace, So Why Isn’t He Resigning?' —Manipur Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh.

Yumnam Khemchand Singh, a minister in the Manipur government, has questioned chief minister N Biren Singh’s refusal to quit over the failed law and order situation in the volatile state.

"I asked him to resign a couple of times but he is not putting down his papers. He could not bring peace till now so why isn’t he resigning?"

Once a thief, always a thief!

Since the properties of the Kukis in Imphal have been completely looted, with nothing left to steal, the Meitei public has now started looting their own properties.

The looting spree has been ongoing since more than 6,000 weapons were stolen.

‘No riot can last for more than 24 hours without the consent of the state.’ — Senior police officer Vibhuti Narain Rai, IPS, speaking to human rights activist Teesta Setalvad in a 1995 interview.

Had the Chief Minister taken action at the beginning of the violence in 2023, as he is currently doing in Imphal Valley, when thousands of people protested against the government in the streets, there would have been no bloodshed or killing spree until today. Moreover, the situation could have been normalized, stabilized, and made peaceful much earlier.

However, as Biren is the main architect of the violence, he did not take proactive measures to quell the unrest as he has done now in Imphal.

During the early days of the violence, starting on May 3, 2023, there were no Army flag marches or stringent curfews imposed in the valley, as seen now in Imphal. Instead, groups like Arambai Tenggol were given a free hand, leading to the brutal hunting and cold-blooded killing of Kukis on the streets of Imphal. Consequently, Imphal Valley infamously earned the moniker "Valley of Death."

In the first week of the violence, there were no reports of Meiteis being killed. On the other hand, most of the casualties during this time were Kukis, which was a direct result of the Chief Minister’s implicit involvement. In a leaked audio recording, he even admitted to orchestrating the violence.

At the outset of the conflict, there were no flag marches, no stringent curfews, and no genuine effort to quell the unrest. This allowed Arambai Tenggol and Meitei mobs to act with impunity, resulting in the loss of many innocent Kuki lives in Imphal.

This is Imphal. This is Meitei.

Watch till the end 🛑

The Showdown between the Meitei CSO (COCOMI) and Meitei womenfolks.

Unless the Meitei people realize that Biren is the mastermind behind the violence in Manipur and hold him accountable, the Meitei public will always end up fighting, quarreling, and antagonizing one another.

The Meitei general public seems to forget that the core problem in Manipur is Biren, who orchestrated the violence. He has consistently targeted the Kukis as a scapegoats to evade accountability for his actions as the mastermind of the violence in Manipur.

Unless this changes, the Meitei people will remain trapped in this vicious cycle.

The Manipur government, led by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, is complicit in the ethnic violence against the Kuki-Zo community. Concerns about the Chief Minister’s role as the mastermind of this crisis have been raised, with a recorded admission under Supreme Court investigation.

The state’s cabinet resolution on November 19, 2024, passed without the participation of 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, reflects a majoritarian agenda.

The resolution seeks to remove six valley police stations from AFSPA’s purview, terminate the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki-Zo groups, and withdraw Assam Rifles from buffer zones, undermining peace efforts. These moves follow months of violence, including the killing of 218 Kuki-Zo individuals, gang rapes, and atrocities by groups like Arambai Tenggol.

The Committee on Tribal Unity urges the Indian government to intervene under Article 239A to protect the Kuki-Zo community and restore peace in Manipur.

Biren Singh "a mad man, marauder and liar"; HM is protecting him for dishonourable reasons; PM, a hypocrite, who's "failed his job": BJP Manipur MLA, Paolienlal Haokip, to Karan Thapar for The Wire.

In an astonishingly outspoken and even defiant interview, one of the BJP’s prominent Kuki MLAs from Manipur, Paolienlal Haokip, has called Chief Minister Biren Singh “a mad man, marauder and liar”, “a narcissist”, adding he’s “long lost his faith in the CM’s sincerity as an administrator” and claiming “his impartiality is doubtful”.

Mr. Haokip said that neither he nor the other six BJP Kuki MLAs would vote in support of the Biren Singh government if a vote of confidence is required. He also said that Tushar Mehta, the Solicitor General, had “lied” to the Supreme Court when he claimed that Biren Singh has been talking to Kuki MLAs about resolving the situation.

In a 34-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Mr. Haokip also questioned why Home Minister Amit Shah is protecting Chief Minister Biren Singh and went on to suggest that it was for reasons that cannot be discussed in public on television. Asked if he was suggesting that the Home Minister was protecting Biren Singh for “less than honourable reasons” Mr. Haokip said “I fully agree”.

In the interview, Mr. Haokip said the Prime Minister is a hypocrite who has not lived up to his tweet of 2017 when the Prime Minister said: “Those who cannot ensure peace in the state have no right to govern Manipur.” Mr. Haokip said the Prime Minister “has failed his job” adding and “obviously Manipur too”.

Mr. Haokip said the only solution to the 18-month old crisis in Manipur, which has again flared up, is a separate administration for the Kuki-Zo people which, he said, means a union territory with its own legislature.

Finally, Mr. Haokip was asked, given his views and outspoken criticism of the Chief Minister, Home Minister and the Prime Minister, why he has not left the BJP. He said he still hopes that saner voices in the BJP will prevail.

I have only given you some of the main points from this extremely forceful and outspoken interview. There’s a lot more, including Mr. Haokip’s concern that commitment to Hindutva was preventing the BJP and the Home Minister from protecting Christian Kukis, that I will leave you to see for yourself.

EULOGY TO OUR FALLEN HEROES

Haojoel Doungel (27 years):

Son of Pu Seilam Doungel and Husband of Nu Kimnu of Pangmol Village, Tousem Subdivision, Tamenglong District, Manipur.

Cause of Death:

Lynched to death by Meitei militants on 16th November, 2024 (Saturday) at night.

- In another horrific episode of genodical act against the Kuki-Zos, Mr. Haojoel was lynched to death by Meitei militants on the night of 16th November, 2024.

- Adding to an atrocious loss of life, his wife is currently pregnant and sheltering at a relief camp in Hmarkholien, Assam with their young child.

- Mr. Haojoel left the relief camp as the time for his wife’s delivery loomed closer and he wanted to find financial aid for the hospital expenses. It was then that he was abducted from Jirighat, Assam by Meitei militants and members of Arambai who mercilessly subjected him with their barbarous act, leading to his death.

- A man whose only desire was to ensure the safe delivery of his new born baby before Christmas had met a horrific fate of this scale, just like hundred other Kuki-Zos.

- His lifeless body was in the form of an excoriated skin, mutilated body and broken bones and was found in a culvert by some locals at Anglapur village of Jiribam. His body is presently at Jiribam Police station.

- This incident sets another precedent of how Manipur is devoid of law and order as the genocidal terror finds a leeway again.

- May his widowed wife and bereaved family find solace in the Lord! And may his death not end as a mere story but a sacrificial leap in the journey towards our fight for our ancestral land.

May his soul rest in peace!

It's utterly unjustified to focus solely on Meitei deaths while completely ignoring the horrific and brutal atrocities committed by Meitei terrorists against the Kuki community.

How dare anyone attempt to paint the Meitei as victims when they have been the perpetrators of unimaginable violence?

They have revealed themselves to be bloodthirsty, savage aggressors, employing barbaric tactics to terrorize innocent Kuki women, children, and families. Gang rapes, kidnappings, arson, and even burning people alive—this is the true face of Meitei terror.

While they call for justice for their dead, as if they were innocent angels, they conveniently ignore the rivers of blood they've spilled.

The Kuki community has endured incomprehensible horrors, yet all we hear is the outrage over a few Meitei deaths, as if that somehow offsets the countless lives lost in the most savage ways imaginable.

When Meitei terrorists crossed the buffer zone and attacked Kuki land, did the world care? No!

Yet now they have the audacity to demand justice for six Meitei deaths, dismissing the countless brutalities committed by their own people.

This blatant disregard for Kuki suffering is an insult to the countless families who have endured unimaginable pain.

It's time we stop pretending Meitei atrocities don’t exist. Acknowledge the truth!

There is no justification for their savagery, and no amount of anger or denial can erase the barbaric crimes they have committed against the Kuki community. The world must confront and recognize these atrocities for what they truly are.
