On Pointe is a start up company dedicated to providing users with live and recorded feedback on their posture and ankle health. Many injuries that dancers and athletes experience are directly related to and caused by improper ankle positions. On Pointe helps people monitor their feet and ankles to reduce the risk of injury. This technology provides them with valuable feedback on how to improve the
ir technique in dancing, various sports, everyday posture, and overall health. The On Pointe design consists of an app connected to a wearable device. The On Pointe wearable device is a minimally obstructive pressure-sensing insole that is both easy to use and affordable. This device uses state-of-the-art telecommunications and sensor technology that encourages dancers to enforce good and safe habits while practicing on their own. While wearing the insole, users can use the app to record a dance move, typically in the presence of a teacher. Users can then replay this reference video and mimic it while recording themselves practicing the move. The app displays the reference and practice recordings side-by-side and shows, via a pressure map, the incorrect foot positions right when they happen. In this way, students can monitor their ankle position, their lines, and other aspects of their technique. This promotes safer and more accurate practice sessions. Even if the student is practicing alone, he or she learns to review and self-correct themselves for better, more consistent technique. Our core team is made up of biomedical and electrical engineering students from the City College of New York. We specialize in hardware and software development, biomechanics, and product design. As a group of individuals passionate about technology and health, we hope to revolutionize the way people dance, run, walk, and live.
