*My Tribute to Goni Bukar Lawan*

I came back from Yobe State University where someone asked me to guide him on an assignment on Tuesday to the sad news of the passing of the Icon, the humanitarian, the leader, the father of the fatherless, the philanthropist and a renowned grassroot mobilizer completely gutted. It was something that came to me as a dream, for I was not sure if the news I was reading on Leadership Newspaper was real. I had to scroll to many national dailies to be really sure of the news. I was still searching when someone shared the news in the famous Yobe State Social Media WhatsApp platform and many people started praying for Him. Immediately, my body trembled and shivered like someone who was soaked in cold water in the early hours of the day. But the Maker decided to draw the curtain. We can’t question our Creator. Allah knows all. Besides, every soul shall taste death. Distinguish Honourable Commissioner Alhaji Goni Bukar Lawan has just gone the way of all mortals. All we, his family and Yobeans can do now is pray for him and hold on to the fond memories. For me Yobe First Child Almahdi MJ, as I reflected on my first meeting with him when I was introduced to him as a Yobe Son who is a journalist living in the Southern part of Nigeria, I remember nothing else but the pure love and affection he showered me in his house. It was a sweet refined memories I truly hold dear to my heart. The care, kindness and generosity of this mentor to many young people is amazing and unimaginable. I remember a friend of mine was asking me to borrow him N24,000 to add up and pay his registration fees. I was only having N10,000 with me. I told him that I can only afford N10,000. As we were talking we were unaware that some two men were eaves dropping on our conversation. One of the *two guys said to us "haba dubu ashirin da hudu ne kuke nema? Ba ku san BUGON ba ne? Ku same shi ya cika maku kudin"* the young man was actually asking us to meet BUGON for the money. Then and there my friend asked them for BUGON's address. That was it. After a week I met my friend and he told me that BUGON gave him N40,000. This was how BUGON was helping young people. The elderly people will argue with you that BUGON helped them more than any other age grade. The women's part of the story says he empowered them more. Everyone in Yobe in one way or the other will testify to you about his generosity, meekness and kindness. This world indeed is temporal. How can we not miss a leader like BUGON?

The passing of the Yobe State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Alhaji Goni Bukar Lawan at this time when Yobe state and the country needed his immense wisdom and knowledge in its efforts to overcome its challenges, is a great loss for which I cannot find the right words to describe.. Though death is inevitable, we cannot forget the immense contributions of the Former Member, House of Representatives to the promotion of peace, harmony, unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence in our state and the country at large. We would miss his selfless service to humanity, his fatherly counsel, his sound advice, his words of inspiration and galvanizing spirit that was a uniting factor for people of different background, age, class, faith and ethnicity.

My deepest condolences go to Goni Bukar Lawan’s wives, children and family who gave us their Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Son , and to Mr Governor HE Hon. Mai Mala Buni, all his cabinet and Hon. Bukar Lawan's immediate Staff and colleagues in the Ministry for Youth and Sport.

Rest in peace my uncle and leader.

*Almahdi MJ Yobe First Child (YFC)* writes from Abari Damaturu.

Even though it’s easier to have first class in the Law School than in the university, it didn’t come easy either. Law school was a sprint, while university was a marathon, and you would agree with me that it’s a lot easier to get tired and give up in a marathon than it is in a sprint. However, the workload was much and we were required to really put in a lot of hours if we wished to be at the top of our game. But I knew it wasn’t impossible... *Hhhhh Yobe is Hot!*
I was travelling from Calabar to Damaturu but when I got to Jos, I was stopped by one FRSC member who accused me of not using my seatbelt. I begged him to please let me go that it won’t happen again but he refused.
He said he is going to seize my driver's licence and impound the car to their office. I told myself "if this people impound my car it will not be easy for me". But after much plea, he decided to collect #23,000 from me which was the only money on me that would have paid for my fuel and other expenses.
I gave him the money SADLY and went my way.
I was about entering Damaturu when a phone rang beside me,
and i was surprised to see Apple’s Iphone 12 on my passenger's seat.
I picked the call only to discover that the FRSC man was the owner of the phone. He forgot his phone in my car. Now he's begging me to return the phone to him.
If you were to be in my shoes what will you do??? YFC is not smiling fah.
Be sincere because my head dey run riot here and both GOOD and EVIL are whispering things in my ear at the same time.
Yobe First Child AMJ is on the hot gear!

Dear men,

Will you still recognise your fiancé without:

A wig
Foundation
Fake eyelashes
Makeup
Body magic (if you don’t know what this means, ask around)
Fake nails, and
‘Organic’ cream?

Do you even know her real height (have you seen her without high heels)?

If you can’t answer in the affirmative, you are about to marry an illusion. Any marriage based on illusion is destined for destruction!

Unmask the masquerade to know who you are marrying

My mom used to cook beans, but before she cooks the beans, she picks the bad and useless beans and throw them at the backyard whilst she cook the good beans. But when it rains, the bad beans becomes seed and grows up and looks beautiful. The same person who threw them away start to harvest them. She realises that the beans she threw away has VALUE. Don't cry when people THROW you at the BACKYARD, don't cry when people REJECT you, don't cry while they are LOOKING DOWN on you. The RAIN is coming and the same people who are REJECTING you today will beg to HARVEST you tomorrow. This is your week of

*From the stables of Creative Minds,*

*Hello YSU Students,*
Greeting from the Yobe State University Students' Creative Network (YSU CN) Office of the President Almahdi MJ.
YSU CN aim is to encourage Yobe State University students to develop their spoken and written English. This is because there are, obviously many English words and expressions today that can put our students on the defensive. The devil-may-care attitude toward the spoken and written English is pretty alarming. Even students with a flair for the language have been discouraged by the institutionalised carelessness in the school. Adulterated English is, unfortunately spoken, celebrated and approved with malicious joy.
YSU CN in essence, is not only an association of encouraging of members to speak and communicate in good English but it is also a full-scale admonition on the basic tips on Public speaking skills. YSU CN will be essentially helpful to those who have appetite for fluency in English Language
Public speaking Phobia is already a problem in our University. Seven out of ten students in YSU can not communicate fluently in English Language at a conservative guess. They seen to have already inherited a legacy of lexical pollution and idiomatic corruption and almost given up on improving their skills; they show little or no interest in vocabulary expansion, speech practice - fluency and precision (as regards the choice of words and learning process) is neglected with malicious pleasures with a devil -may-care attitude.

The irony of the matter is that, whether we like it or not English has already become the most widely spoken European language in the world and it is the official language of instruction in all our universities.
If you are an accountant you must have to speak English at the ICAN meetings and transactions, so also the Lawyers who must speak only English at the Supreme Court of Justice. You cannot run away from this language. Hence you must rise up to the challenge by conquering the phobia of public speaking and communicating in English.

We are in this together! And we are ready to do this. Link up to our social media channels to know what, how and where we plan to do this.
