The Flannery O'Connor Book Club will meet at the Georgia Writers Museum on April 21st at 10 am on the square in Eatonton to discuss Terry Kay's novel The Year the Lights Came On. Also on April 21st at 4:30pm and 7:00pm the O'Connor Book Club will meet online to discuss one of O'Connor's last and greatest stories, "Revelation." Happy April! Just a reminder that the Flannery O'Connor Review is accepting article submissions for Volume 21. The deadline to submit an article for Volume 21 is August 1st, 2022.

We are also accepting submissions for the Sarah Gordon Award. Entries may be submitted anytime between today and August 1.

Entrants must be graduate students at the time of submission.
People about to graduate should enter soon, before they graduate.
Students about to enter graduate school in the fall, and who
therefore be graduate students as the judging is going on, are also
eligible.

We look forward to reviewing your submissions!

Book club will meet at the Georgia Writers Museum in Eatonton at 10am on Thursday, March 24th. We will be discussing O'Connor's A Prayer Journal. Later that day, at 4:30pm and 7 pm, Andalusia Institute will host discussions of O'Connor's story "The Enduring Chill." You may register for either of these Zoom events at the Andalusia Institute website.

Book club will meet at the Georgia Writers Museum at 10am on Thursday, February 17th. We will be discussing two stories from Alice Walker's collection In Love and Trouble: "Really, Doesn't Crime Pay?" and "Strong Horse Tea." Later that day, at 4:30 and 7 pm, Andalusia Institute will host discussions of O'Connor's story "The Displaced Person." Happy New Year from the Flannery O'Connor Review! Book Club will meet at 10am next Thursday, January 20th in Eatonton's Georgia Writer's Museum. The book we will be discussing is The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. Also, the Andalusia Institute will continue to host Zoom meetings this spring. The next discussions about O'Connor's The Violent Bear it Away will also take place on Thursday, January 20th at 4:30pm and 7pm. The Flannery O'Connor Book Club will meet in person at the Georgia Writers Museum in Eatonton, at 10 am next Thursday, Nov. 18, to discuss Carson McCullers's novel Reflections in a Golden Eye. Those who prefer to Zoom in may rest assured that I'll send out a link just before we meet.

Also on Nov. 18, at 4:30 pm and again at 7 pm, there will be a Zoom discussion of Flannery O'Connor's story "Parker's Back." If you are interested in signing up for one of those sessions,

The O'Connor Book Club will meet in person at The Georgia Writers Museum in Eatonton next Thursday, October 21st, at 10am to discuss Zora Neale Hurston's novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. For those who would like to Zoom in, a link will be sent out before the event via email.

There will also be a Zoom discussion on the second half of O'Connor's Wise Blood on October 21st at 4:30 pm and again at 7:00pm. If you want to sign up for one of those sessions, email [email protected] or [email protected].

The Flannery O'Connor Book Club will meet Thursday April 15th to discuss the film-noir story "The Comforts of Home."

We'll be meeting live and in person from 10-11AM at the Georgia Writers Museum on the Square in Eatonton. This meeting will also be available via Zoom. Dr. Gentry will send out the link as a reminder next week.

From 4:30-5:30 and 7-8PM, Andalusia Institute will host additional Zoom discussions on "The Comforts of Home." Contact Irene Burgess at [email protected] to register for either of these events.

Happy birthday to Flannery O'Connor! She would be 96 today 🎉🎉🎉

Schedule of events celebrating Flannery O'Connor on March 25:

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Free tours of Andalusia. Museum tours will be conducted on the half-hour with the last tour starting at 4 p.m. (Group sizes and other COVID restrictions will remain in place for these programs.)

11 a.m. Museum Exhibition Virtual Tour. Join Andalusia Curator Meghan Anderson as she gives a virtual tour of our current exhibition, “Madam O'Connor: Commander of the House,” which is about the life of Regina O’Connor. This tour will be presented live on the Andalusia page.

2 p.m. Georgia College's Max Noah Singers performance “Effervescence." This performance will be presented on the Andalusia page.

6 p.m. There will be a virtual panel discussion on “Flannery O’Connor and Motherhood.” Participants include: Dr. Bruce Gentry, moderator; Dr. Claire Kahane, Dr. Jordan Cofer and Dr. Monica Miller, panelists. This discussion will provide a good companion to the scheduled exhibition at the Museum on Regina O’Connor.

By March 26th, please send Dr. Gentry your proposal (approximately 300 words) for "Flannery O'Connor and Families," the American Literature Association Symposium to be held at the DeSoto hotel in Savannah, GA.

The dates for the Symposium are June 17-19 2021. The Symposium will be held live and in-person, without Zoom.

Papers on topics other than family are also welcome; we are especially interested in proposals for papers on teaching (at any level) the works of O'Connor.
