Well… the podcast has come to an end. After over 190 episodes, spanning nearly 4 years, SO MANY guests, podcast cookies, first time watches, terrible movies, amazing moments with some very dear friends and 1 jackass who gave us a 2 star review… we are done.
Although I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of learning how to make a podcast while spending time with my friend, life got in the way. My new job combined with a new appreciation for free time lead me to the conclusion that something had to go. I have always been focused on growth and numbers when it came to the podcast (to a fault) and those numbers just didn’t bounce back after covid knocked us down. We went from a respectable 100-125+ downloads per episode per week down to struggling to hit 40 downloads total. I know you aren’t supposed to care about numbers but if we weren’t growing I was constantly stressing out about it. I had to justify spending 6-8 hours of prep time watching movies, pulling clips, booking guests, making sure all of the equipment worked each week and editing the podcast each week before posting every Wednesday and making all of those episode posters. It just stopped making sense. It became work.
It may not sound like it but I had a blast during every episode!
We got to stay in touch with our comedy friends and that has been so valuable. I’m sad that we will not have this reason to chat but I’ll see you out on stage somewhere soon.
We have some really great fans of the show and your support kept us going all this time. We love everyone who listened, commented, rated and reviewed us. People would message us asking to cover a specific movie or tell us how we brightened their day or trying to answer some of the “trivia” questions that the guests couldn’t get right. We had fans. That’s pretty cool.
I am so thankful to everyone who ever made the drive out to my house to be on the show. I honestly can’t believe a lot of you came all the way out here for a conversation and some free cookies (thanks to my wife Lindsey Harper for making those every week). Once we went full zoom meeting I still couldn’t believe people would take the time to be on the show. We love you all. There are too many to name.
I want to thank Mandy Elane for agreeing to go on this ride with me. Your love of happy endings, attractive movie stars and laughing with friends added something special to the dumb idea I had to make a podcast. Thank you for being the financial benefactor and heart behind this thing we made.
With a sigh of relief and a tear in my eye I say…
Thank you for listening to the podcast and remember you can always go back and listen again. I don’t know what happens when a podcast dies but for now the episodes are still there. Find them, listen and enjoy.
Our last episode drops tomorrow. We say goodbye. We talk about the movies we didn’t get to do. We remember some great moments and we give shout outs to some folks. We missed a lot of you. Sorry.
Thanks,
Matt Harper
