We've got some questions about the name of the label. We've run this label under this name since 1995 and we haven't really had these question before - but we've gotten them quite a lot lately. It seems that recently a lot of people associate the name "Thule" with far-right organizations and activity. I think we can safely say that we are complete opposite of that.

You can read about the origin of the word in Wikipedia, but in short it's a name that in Late middle ages was believed to be Iceland. Greek explorer Pytheos wrote about it between 330-320 BC. Recent interpretation believe it might be islands in Estonia or Norway. It was also used as a metaphor for a place on the borders of the known world (and that's where we come in).<

When the label was started, we were certainly on the borders of the known world in music - especially in our homeland. It didn't fit on the scale of what was usually being "normal music". It was minimal, quirky and weird.

Thule is a place on the borders of the known world.

And if you ask us what we think about NeoNazis and ultra far-right organization that preach bigotry and hate, then the answer is: "They can sincerely go f**k themselves".

I´m happy to share with you guys my "Instore Session” I did last November for the most amazing record shop in Paris Yoyaku

For this set I decided to only play Icelandic techno tracks (See track list below )

The sessions is part of 3 sets made by OHM, Octal Industries and me we did this same evening and we already have the set by OHM out there in the cosmos and Octal Industries set will shortly follow. ( Stay tuned )

There will be DJ set by THOR (Official) and a live set by Octal Industries coming up in the coming weeks - but the first DJ set is out and It's by the dub techno force majeure OHM!

The remixes of the classic "Helga Möller" by Justin Simmons is now available on Bandcamp. The vinyl has been going around on Discogs for about 150 euros, but now 15 hand-stamped, new print, plastic cover with extra 3mm copies are up for sale.

Remix by New Aluminists has been a hugely sought after item since it was featured on Nick Warren's Global Underground mix and now it's available with a fantastic Vibe Controle rework.

Alright boys and girls! We have received the test press for our upcoming rave compilation "Alsæla" and it's sounding tight! Who knows, we might even be able to get this out sooner than we expected!

The local Icelandic rave-heads will know this one as "Icerave", but what we have hear is an upgrade from the original. Remastered and, for the first time, on 3x12" vinyl!

“Alsæla”, translated as “Ecstasy” in Icelandic, was the original name for the compilation back in 1992, but due to civil pressure at the time it was renamed to “Icerave”. Now, no more compromises and the compilation comes out how it was originally intended - 100% old school rave! As a bonus, some lost and/or previously unavailable classics such as Rollin Like Scottie by Agzilla & DJ L.S.K and many unreleased anthems by AJAX (THOR (Official) & Biogen) will be featured on this compilation.

Fans of classic electronic music will be thrilled to have the opportunity to own a piece of history with the reissue of "Alsæla". The album is a must-have for anyone interested in the roots of the Icelandic electronic music scene, and a perfect addition to any serious music collection.

Sometimes the PR info sheets could get very adventurous back in the days.

Here we have an artist info sheet for our compilation "Fishcake: The Sound Of Thule (Icelandic Minimal Audio Structures)", which was released back in 1998.

Things haven't changed much. Exos is still involved with the operation "less junk food", THOR (Official) is a massive energy source and a topic of endless confusions, Ozy. is still an arithmetic engineer on a Battlecruiser and Plastic (Yagya) still enjoys a good science fiction and is a living paradox.

P.s: I think the phone number on the top of the fax sheet is inoperative, unless you have a fax machine with a rare time & space manipulation plugin installed.

Copenhagen-based Icelander Ohm and Berlin-based Philipp Priebe mine the warmest depths of dub techno here across three stumble originals. 'Flickering Lights' is silky and muted, with smooth drums and claps gliding over a cavernous groove that is subtly lit with sustained chords. The Anton Kubikov remix is more lithe and electronic, with reflective synths and nimble leads making for a minimalistic workout. There is then a shadowy but dynamic dub vibe to 'Sacred Night' before 'Roaming' rives this EP home with a mix of deft sound designs and pillow dub drums. It's brilliantly introspective.
