I'm selling more of my Asian music collection. It's so hard but I'm moving to Mexico and have to become a minimalist.
Here is one of my favorites ( I digitized it for the station when I got it and never played it since) Check it out on eBay. More on the way. I'll only post a few here.

This is where I came in.

I think this was the first Mandarin Pop song I really noticed.

It was part of a CD I bought called, "Asian Popcorn" and oddly produced by the Thai record company, Grammy a.k.a. GMM.

If anyone know why she was being produced by a Thai record company, please share.

Anyway THIS song altered that course of my life musically.

Here is a track from A-mei that you probably missed. It's in ENGLISH.

What I will NOT share is Amei's cover version of Electric Light Orchestra's "Last Train To London", written by Jeff Lynne.

I am a big ELO fan! And I am a big A-mei fan. (I don't think there are too many of us that fit THAT description).

So when I saw A-Mei was covering ELO, I was super excited and then totally disappointed.

Maybe it's just a bad song that only ELO could pull off well, or maybe it is just a BAD song for A-mei - but it truly sucked!

And then to further the embarrassment, the concert clip of the video credits the writer as JHEFFLYNE (one word).

I have been (and continue) to sell my entire music collection on ebay.

It's sad because as I list each one, I remember how much joy each one brought. I keep telling myself that it's time to let others enjoy them.

As I compare what I have to what has been sold, I have to say that I am pretty impressed with how much material is available, but it is somewhat difficult to find. You can browse by searching for "mandopop" or "Cpop"

If you are looking for something in particular, you just have to get creative and search all the different ways to translate names.

Today I am sharing Dao Lang. This song is one of my favorites of his. He combines Western Chinese (depending on your political POV) and Western rock influences into an ethereal/rock/pop/classic sound that is completely unique and wonderful.

Despite criticism for cultural appropriation, if anyone on the planet can produce music like Dao Lang, I will be a fan. I haven't heard it yet.

Oh and yes, I am (sadly) selling this CD (and all my CDs - and most possessions) in my preparation to move abroad.

Here's another singer with a short-lived music career. Apparently now she owns a chocolate shop. I wonder if it is Spanish Chocolate?

Anyway, I REALLY loved this song when it first came out. I think because I like the blending of styles.

Was anyone here a fan of the R&B Band Tension? To be honest, they didn't do much for me.

Maybe that's why I never even opened the Planet Love (greatest hits) CD I have.

You can see everything I am selling (and others too) by searching the word "mandopop" on Ebay.

I'll be honest, most of what I am selling is a bit more expensive because it is in mint condition. Typically, I'd buy a CD and digitize it to play on Mandarin Radio, then I'd put it away in my glass CD cabinet until today.

In this particular instance, I think I only ever played one song by Tension on Mandarin Radio - Gotta Be Your Man.

According to the music licensing rules at the time, I needed to physically own every song I played - even if I could find it free somewhere else. Consequently, this CD remains unopened.

Another thing I'm selling over on eBay. A pristine copy of the deluxe version of Karen Moks, Somewhere I Belong, English language CD.

I liked this version of the Beatles tune by George Harrison. Apparently this comes full circle as the song was inspired by the Chinese I Ching. Karen plays guzheng replacing the guitar part originally recorded by Eric Clapton.

Well, as many of you know, I've been a big fan of the Taiwan-based Skot Suyama for a long time.

I was also a fan of Ting Zhu back when she was produced by Lupo Groinig.

Skot and Ting got married. I was waiting....

But it never came. Well, one cute little pithy thing - but it didn't seem serious.

I always found it weird that a great producer and a talented singer-songwriter would not make beautiful music together (in more than the metaphorical meaning).
Like really! Make music together. Please!

Perhaps they heard somewhere that it's a bad idea for married couples to work together? Which is nonsense. My parents worked great together. It was the kids who suffered when all they talked about was work. But I digress ...

Finally, now that they are divorced, they have finally put out a song that seems worthy of their talents.

Unfortunately I am selling my entire CD collection including a pristine copy of Ting Zhu's Album "Don't be a puppet"

My first trip to China was to Chengdu. I took China Eastern Airlines and treated myself to their disappointingly slim selection of in-flight Chinese Pop music.

It was then that I discovered Tan Weiwei and her album "3". She is, to this day among my favorite Mainland Chinese artists.

When I arrived in Chengdu one of the first tasks I set for myself was buying her album. It took a while with my 50-word Mandarin vocabulary but I was successful!

All these years later, I am moving abroad and have to sell my ENTIRE music collection :-(

I am selling that CD of hers that I bought in Chengdu, I played it once (to put in my digital music collection) and it has been in a glass cabinet ever since. Needless to say, it is in pristine condition.
