We'll do a ROOTS show shining a light on the mysterious MIDNIGHT next week to coincide with their historic hometown show at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rage on!

Every so often a photographer and a band have a bond that elevates the band’s image (and by extension their music) to another level and that’s the case here. Midnight has been one of my favorite bands for a long time and I’ve been following Hannah’s photos for almost as long too. This isn’t just a photo book but, as the essays by Athenar and Hannah tell, the story about how these Cleveland natives (the band and photographer) met, began working together, and have traveled the globe together. Great stories and great photos combined with the very high quality production and printing that Bazillion Points always delivers. HAIL! To quote the band: “White HOT fire!”

Winding up 2023 w/ an intro to Japanese idol and idol-related metal bands on my SiriusXM Liquid Metal show ROOTS this week. For sure you've heard of Babymetal, who combined metal and cutesy Japanese pop in 2014 to become the highest charting Japanese language band in Billboard history, and first to top the rock chart. In the ten years since, things have gotten way more complicated, with idol bands such as Fruit Pochette sounding like Carcass with harmonized female vocals; Necronomidol sounding like early Ghost and casting spells from the Necronomicon to avenge the people who have wronged them; and whatever you want to call the savage nastiness of 14th Generation Toilet Hanako-san. My older brother introduced me to Rush and AC/DC, my older sister introduced me to Ozzy & Black Sabbath, boarding school introduced me to Iron Maiden & the Storm Troopers of Death. As a youth, my dream was to play drums in a solid metal band, so I'm not exactly sure how I wound up playing guitar in a reggae band. Lol. Last year, Tha 'Yoties got the metal out and recorded "Genocide" in collaboration with Sage Bond for the "Xoyote Soldier Tour". The song is an Alter-Native view of the history of America with quotes from US Army General Philip Sheridan, Dine' Warrior/Chief Manuelito, and Judas Priest. \m/ "Genocide" was featured alongside other Native Metal selections over the last couple weeks on SiriusXM Liquid Metal for the "ROOTS of Native American Metal: 2023 Edition" :O The ROOTS series is 'Sound of the Beast' author Ian Christe’s heavy metal history show on Sirius XM Liquid Metal channel 40.
