Today’s the day. I’ve waited decades to see Black Flag & that’s finally gonna happen tonight.
I came to punk late. I grew up in suburbia as a heavy metal kid and was never properly exposed to punk at an early age. By the time I became aware of it, I had missed many of the bands I grew to love; Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Germs, Necros etc. don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of modern era punk I thoroughly enjoy but Black Flag remained a major missing piece that I wanted to experience live.
Tonight they are playing in Sydney and I couldn’t be more thrilled. True, they only have one original member but I’m OK with that. Original members aside, Mike Vallely may be the only front man that could do the job properly. If you want to s**t on Greg and the current Black Flag band, do it somewhere else - this post is my celebration of a moment I’ve waited decades to fulfil.
If you’re going to see the show tonight in Sydney, I’ll see you in the pit.
