People keep asking us how the roads are. ALL roads in Jackson County are hazardous at this time. The county Road Department and GDOT have been out treating the roadways. Even with them doing this, the mush re-freezes. We HIGHLY encourage everyone to stay at home and off the roadways.

On Monday January 6, 2025, at approximately 3:30 pm, the Braselton Police Department Criminal Investigation Division was made aware of a social media post alleging the occurrence of an attempted child abduction in the town limits. No call from the social media poster was made to the Braselton Police to report this allegation. Braselton Police have not found evidence any law enforcement department was directly notified of this allegation. Braselton Police have not located any evidence that any of the alleged activity actually occurred. Braselton Police Uniform Patrol Division will continue to conduct area patrols through all neighborhoods to ensure the safety of the community.

The Braselton Police Department is actively investigating a Facebook post alleging an attempted child abduction. Currently we have received no information that would cause concern for public safety. Out of an abundance of caution, Braselton Police Department Uniform Patrol is conducting regular area checks through all neighborhoods within the town limits of Braselton. As we know more, the Town will release updates on the investigation to keep the community informed. If you have any information regarding this investigation, please email [email protected]. And if you see illegal or unsafe activity, please call 911.

Last night (Jan. 3), the Jackson County High School basketball program honored the memory of late basketball coach Heather Backer, holding a pink-out and presenting a plaque to her children Bryce Bruce, Brooklyn Bruce and Braelyn Bruce. Backer, a longtime JCHS coach, passed away in 2024. Backer served as a multi-sport coach — both as a head coach and an assistant — for Jackson County for over two decades. She is a member of the Jackson County High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Westley Greenewald was the first baby of 2025 delivered at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton. He was born at 2:00 a.m. on Jan. 1 to Kayla and Stephen Greenewald of Sugar Hill. The baby boy weighed in at 7lbs. 11oz. and measured 19.75 inches. He was delivered by Kasey Pitts, a midwife with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group OB/GYN. The family received a gift basket courtesy of the Northeast Georgia Health System Auxiliary and Safe Kids Northeast Georgia (Photos by Jessica Bate).
