SEXUAL ENHANCEMENT DRUGS DO NOT GIVE EXTRA PLEASURE MEN BE WARNED!!!

Research has shown that s*xual enhancement drugs, be it traditional mixture or whatever drugs you may call it, ONLY DELAYS EJ*******ON which, in street terms, means "LAST LONGER".

Remember, medical research has also shown that the longer you last on a womanduring s*xualin*******se, the more pressure is on your heart.

During normal in*******se, it is said that your heartbeat rate increases by between FORTY and FIFTY PER CENT before or when you reach or**sm and about discharging.

That accounts for why most men sleep off after s*x

Now, when you take s*xual enhancement drugs, it gets to a stage when you feel you have had enough and all you want is ej*******on but that doesn't come easily, to force it, you have to get the heart, ALREADY STRESSED, TO DO EXTRA WORK!!

If your HEART is not strong enough, you may not be able to survive the consequences.

At this stage, your fate lies between you and your creator. You only need Baba God to show mercy on you.

If you survive the shock 😲 to God be the glory otherwise, you will have a direct call to visit your ancestors. You know what I mean?

So let her call you "TWO MINUTES NOODLES".

Don't feel bad, rather show her the way out to go and meet her "ONE HOUR BEANS".

If you last THREE HOURS, na only you and your partner know or whoever either of you tells.

It is not OLYMPIC where dem go dey cheer you and you will collect MEDAL after the race.

Above all, when you are above 50-55, don't try to s*xually impress any woman.

EVEN YOUR WIFE!

If you die, another man will take over the 'stadium'!

That is if that 'stadium' is not even being shared with someone else when you are still alive.

Just like Inter and AC Milan are sharing San Siro...!!!
Men, a word is enough.🤷🏿‍♂️

THINK ABOUT THIS!

: NIGERIAN POLICE THWARTS ‘INDIAN OCCULT TEMPLE’ SETUP IN LAGOS, ARREST SUSPECTS

Two men have been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly trying to set up an occultic shrine named ‘Indian Occultic Temple’.

Their intention, it was gathered, was to defraud victims by making them believe that the oracle has powers to make them rich and successful.

The two men, Ifeanyi Nwodo and Dainel Johnson, were seen making occultic pratices around Agufoye area of Ikorodu, which led to their arrest.

They were among 34 suspects paraded on Wednesday at the state’s police command, Ikeja for engaging in varying crimes including armed robbery, stealing, cultism and unlawful possession of fi****ms, among others.

“On January 13, 2024, at about 1500 hrs, based on credible intelligence that some boys were seen making occultic pratices around Agufoye area of Ikorodu, operatives of the Command swiftly arrested one Ifeanyi Nwodo ‘m’ aged 39 and Dainel Johnson ‘m’ aged 32.

“Investigations revealed that they were trying to set up their occultic shrine named ‘Indian Occultic Temple’ with intent to defraud victims by making them believe that the oracle has powers of making them rich and successful. Several occult items including moulded human head, crafted human effigies were found in their shrine,” the Commissioner of Police, CP Fayoade Adegoke, said at a press briefing.

Adegoke, who is approximately one month in office as CP of Lagos, said a total of 16 fi****ms were recovered in the last one month, including a toy pistol, 72 live cartridges, 75 live ammunition, one expended cartridge, one pistol magazine, six axes, four daggers, one digger, five cutlasses, two vehicles, one POS Machine, fake registration plates and various charms.

“…it is with great sense of professional fulfilment I stand before you today to present to you our achievements in Lagos State Command since my assumption of duty approximately a month ago. Before you today we have a total of thirty-four (34) suspects who have engaged in varying crimes including armed robbery, stealing, cultism and unlawful possession of fi****ms etc.

“From all these cases which we successfully cracked, we recovered a total of sixteen (16) fi****ms including a toy pistol, seventy-two (72) live cartridges, seventy-five (75) live ammunition, one expended cartridge, one pistol magazine, six axes, four daggers, one digger, five cutlasses, two (2) vehicles, one POS Machine, fake registration plates and various charms,” the CP said.

According to Adegoke, all suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

He assured Lagosians that the command under his watch would continue to do everything operationally possible to ensure that crime and criminality is brought to the barest minimum in the state.

CONTRACTOR, CHIEF AKO OBIOMA THREATENS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST EX-ABIA SPEAKER, HON. CHINEDUM ORJI OVER MEDIA REMARKS

An indigenous contractor and Chairman of Daman Resources, Chief Ako Obioma, had threatened to institute a legal action against the immediate-past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, over alleged uncomplimentary media remarks against his person.

Obioma who addressed a press conference in Umuahia, said he had instructed his lawyers to sue the former Speaker if he failed to retract and apologize over the alleged comments which he claimed had badly damaged his reputation.

The contractor who recounted how he rose to fame from a humble background by dint of hardwork, challenged anybody with any record of dent about him to provide proof.

He, therefore, wondered why anybody would go to the press to label him “a scammer and a fraudulent contractor”

Obioma claimed that the smear campaign against him was intended to blackmail him and stop the State Government from paying him the debt owed him from the contracts he executed for the state in the past.

According to him, Abia State Government engaged him to rebuild the 14 Brigade Army Barracks Ohafia, build a helipad at Isuikwuato, and road projects at Ikwuano, totaling N4.2 billion, but refused to pay him, citing paucity of funds.

He claimed that his recent advice to Gov. Alex Otti to be ware of sycophants and to avoid the mistakes of his predecessors, earned him persecutions by detractors who see his family as threat.

“One of my crimes is not to allow them to destroy my brother politically, and that’s why they wanted to destroy me financially, thinking that through him I would fund Alex Otti”

He further said that his disagreement that Abia Government House was on a rented apartment was part of the reason he was being persecuted.

“If Abia Government House is on rented apartment, who collects the rent?”

Obioma who claimed that he built most of the structures at the Government House including the Chapel which was a personal donation, insisted that the Government House belongs to the State Government.

He alleged that the renewed smear campaign against him was to stop the new administration in the state from paying him.

“They are trying to stop Government from paying me. It’s my sweat and I must live to get back my money. They are owing me ₦4.2 billion but an Arbitration panel resolved ₦2.119 billion in my favour. Instead of paying me, the past administration went to court again.

“I would have died out of frustration if I had borrowed from any bank. Some contractors died because of frustration. I want to be paid”.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the former Speaker, Jude Ndukwe, said it was unbelievable

He said, “Who will think that the former Assembly Speaker who is in PDP will frustrate the payment of a contractor in a Labour Party-led Government”

He asked the contractor to stop pointing accusing fingers at the former Speaker who he said had no grouse with him.

PHILOSOPHIES OF DR. OGBONNAYA ONU: A Series

*Year 2: Week 20 - The Legacy Political Parties And Groups That Merged To Form The APC Have Roots In APP/ANPP* *

Our revered, selfless and patriotic Leader, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, is a man who believes firmly in the time-tested adage that *"Birds of the same feather flock together."* It is therefore not surprising that when he conceived the idea of bringing major opposition political parties together to form a strong political party that can challenge and defeat the ruling PDP in future elections, he rallied the ACN, ANPP and CPC because they have the same root - the APP. The groups that joined the merger from APGA and DPP also trace their origin to the same source.

In his book: _FROM OPPOSITION TO GOVERNING PARTY: NIGERIA'S APC MERGER STORY,_ published in 2015, at pages 171-176, Dr. Onu said:

_"If one looks closely at the political parties and groups that merged to form the All Progressives Congress (APC), one can see that the nucleus of the groups that God had wanted to bring together in 1998, to form the All Peoples Party (APP), were the same people who formed the APC."_

Dr. Onu recalled that:

_"In 1998, when the APP was to be inaugurated and formally presented to Nigerians, in a public ceremony held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, intensive negotiations took place, up to the early hours of that day. It was only a few hours to the public presentation of the APP, on September 8, 1998, that the group which later applied to INEC, and was subsequently registered as the Alliance for Democracy (AD), broke away. They left Abuja and travelled to Lagos. The reason they gave for their discontinuation as members of the APP was that they had seen certain persons with whom they could not work, playing important roles in the party. It is the members of the group which made up the AD that in 1999, won elections in the six states of the South West Zone. Later, the Action Congress (AC) was formed and finally, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), emerged. The APP itself had undergone some changes. It changed its name on July 2, 2002 to the ANPP when some group of persons joined from PDP."_

In the case of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Dr. Onu traced its formation to the exit of General Muhammadu Buhari from the ANPP. He revealed that,

_"In 2002, General Muhammadu Buhari, who was the Military Head of State from 1984-85, joined the APP. This was the first time that Gen. Buhari would join a political party. He later became the Presidential Candidate of the party in both the 2003 and 2007 general elections. After the 2007 general elections, the party took certain decisions it should not have taken. As a result, Gen. Buhari left the party and formed the CPC in 2009. When he was in ANPP, there was a group in the party known as The Buhari Organisation (TBO). When he left the party, many members of the TBO, and some other members of the party left with him."_

Dr. Onu further recalled,

_"Also, some prominent members of the party left and formed the APGA. Chief Chekwas Okorie was a founding leader of the APP. He was a member of the pioneer National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. Also, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was a founding leader of the APP. It was both Chief Chekwas Okorie, as pioneer National Chairman of the APGA and Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was the acknowledged leader of the APGA and its Chairman, Board of Trustees, who played the most important role in the formation of the APGA. It is also very important to note that it was from the party that DPP was formed. Alhaji Attahiru Bafawara was a founding leader of the APP. He served as two-term governor of Sokoto State on the platform of the APP/ANPP. He also served as an interim National Chairman of the party. He, along with others, including Alhaji Yusuf Ali, a former National Chairman of the ANPP, left the party to form the DPP. He contested election as president on the platform of the DPP. He later left the DPP. Those he left behind in the DPP, like Gen. J.T. Useni and Gen. Magashi were also from the APP/ANPP."_ -

*BIAFRA IS A STATE OF BEING*
Until we have achieved that state of being, the desired geopolitical region remains at risk. So we must pursue both tasks together.

And the State of Being is as follows:
We have to do as the Catalonians do in Spain.
When they realized that the Castelianos (Madrid) will never voluntarily or easily give them Independencia, the Catalonians (Barcelona) decided to turn inwards and develop their region Technologically, Economically and Infrastructurally - and now they are the economic powerhouse of Spain.

The same thing is with Bayern in Germany. When Germany was declaring itself as a nation, Bayern (Bavaria) had the choice to stay out and be a country on its own (like Austria did) . Instead it opted to stay within a greater Germany and become it's best part. Today Bavaria is the most technologically and economically powerful region in Germany - and it has the whole of Germany now as its primary and biggest market.

The same thing is with California in the USA.
It's not only the biggest economy WITHIN the US, it's also the 6th largest economy in the World!
However, this is only because it is within the US and can leverage on all the synergies that come with that, that it can be so powerful.
If it were suddenly to try to break away overnight to stand alone, as a competitor against the rest of the US, things would not be so easy.

Nigeria does not fear IPOB as it is. *In fact, they WANT IPOB to challenge them, so they can militarily wage war on the Igbos.*
IPOB at present is not the Biafra that Nigeria fears.
They fear the Biafra that becomes like Catalonia, like Bavaria, like California.
That's the Biafra they fear.
*So they NEED this militant IPOB to give them an excuse to come and reduce Ala-Igbo to a wasteland again and turn back the hands of our clock once more to Zero, like they did in the last Civil War.*
*Even if we don't want and don't start any hostilities, they will use the slightest excuse or provocation or accident to send in their troops. Britain will support them and in the end USA will establish a military base in Igbo Land, to keep the peace. And that is how we will become occupied territory.*

*We have to be smart, and shift the battle to the field where we can win.*

What I am saying is this: *yes we will continue to ask for Referendum, like Catalonia does in Spain, like Scotland does in Great Britain.*
*But it is not Referendum that will give us the Biafra we need. And of course It is not guns that will give us Biafra, that we know.*
*As Igbos, we have to conquer our chronic INDIVIDUALISM - and we have to pool our wealth, intelligence and efforts together to turn Ala-Igbo into a First World region, right here and now. But this is the most difficult thing for us because we are individualists! It is easier to protest.*

The second point is: Our Governors. As much as we don't like them, we have to work on them and with them.

*If IPOB mobilises the people against the Governors, the same way it is mobilising them against the Federal Govt, you will see how fast things will change.*
What will the governors do? Start shooting their own people? If any governor does that, where will that governor run to hide from the people's revenge? They have nowhere to hide. Your State is your home - so they MUST listen to the people. *If the people are united, (and IPOB can unite the people because IPOB is very powerful), they MUST start DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILITY from EVERY elected official in the South East.*

Demand that they invest in INFRASTRUCTURES. Roads and transportation. Potable water. Drainage systems. Housing. Health. Education. Tax breaks for small businesses. Regional economic integration. *Constitute expert groups accross every field from within and the diaspora to develop and advice on the framework for regional development.*

*Instead of going to Abuja, the Governors should come together, put money together from their budget and start building a second Niger Bridge. Start dredging the River Niger at Onitsha. Start developing the dry port at Abia. Start NOW and make it mandatory that EVERY South East governor prioritize regional integration. Taxes and tarrifs for business MUST come down to encourage investors.*

*Computer Village in Lagos is full of Igbos.
*The governors and leadership should put their moneys together and build TECHNOLOGY TOWN in Aba. Follow up on Geometrics power project in Aba by Prof Barth Nnaji, with a view to completely electrifying Ala-Igbo.*

*Put their money together and elevate Enugu Airport to a level HIGHER than Lagos or Abuja airport.*
Things like that. *Developing the Owerri Airport to a full international cargo airport and take advantage of the central location of Owerri in the South East.* Quality educational institutions are lacking in the East even though we constantly produce the highest number of applicants to universities. *Let us build more by collaboration with our foreign diaspora. They're the best in many parts of the world. Lets harness this advantage.*
*We need a world class Stock Exchange in Ala-Igbo. We can achieve that without the Federal government, because we own trading. Encourage our diaspora to work with government to establish and run QUALITY WORLD CLASS HEALTH CARE institutions in Ala-Igbo.*

*IPOB has already come up with a blueprint for an Igbo-wide democratic customary government, the people's government, very republican in nature, and this is good. THIS IS POWER.* Ironically, it might even be according to the Nigerian constitution. *If peacefully achieved, this can be the leverage with which to control the elected executive and legislative levels, if Nigeria stays together. And if Nigeria falls apart, then automatically we already have a framework state in operation.*

However, IPOB must win Igbo people over by championing their welfare with their own governors and officials. Threaten them with no re-election and criminal prosecution if they fail to serve their people. They must also encourage the training, standardization, integration and sharing of information by the different state security groups to stamp out crimes like robbery, kidnapping, human trafficking, etc. We are Igbo. We are in the communities and we know those who are into crime. People MUST start explaining their sources of wealth. *IPOB can utilize its huge following to ensure crime is wiped out and good governance is entrenched in the South East.* Then *IPOB* and possibly Nnamdi Kanu, would ever be remembered kindly by history.

*If we are doing things like all these, Arewa will not need to issue quit notice - NDIGBO will come back in droves to build up Ala-Igbo.*

*Is it beyond the Igbo to venture into modern and very lucrative cattle rearing and be the leaders in all of Africa? Are we not known to come late into any venture and excel beyond those in it for centuries? *** *The governors in Ala-Igbo should AS A MATTER OF URGENCY introduce RANCHING across Ala-Igbo for prospective and enterprising *IGBO CATTLE FARMERS, after which they will enact, implement and execute ANTI OPEN-GRAZING LAWS in their States, then call on all indigenes and States security groups to participate in monitoring its implementation.*
*This will empower all Igbos and we will rid ourselves of these Fulani Herdsmen in no time.*
* *This is priority. Every passing day is too much.*

*Ekiti State did it.*
*Benue State has done it.*
*It's not impossible.*
*Why cannot the States of the South-East ALL do it as ONE?*
*Anti Grazing Law.*
*This will shake the Nigerian Govt more than asking for referendum.*

*IPOB has power. If they use it wisely they can bring about tremendous change in Ala-Igbo without a single blood shed. They are uniquely positioned by God at this period in time to use their massive following and break the individualistic Igbo trait to bring about change that will positively shape Igbo history for generations.* _If they misuse it by going the route of war, that didnt work decades ago, then it would be a great loss indeed._

If Nigeria stays together, Ala-Igbo can become the most advanced region of Nigeria if we START NOW.
If Nigeria breaks up, we have to be ready to survive on our own. *And at this moment, we are not yet ready. This is where we need to put our eyes into. Because the ball is already rolling.*

*What we want is for people to come and start investing in Ala-Igbo, from all over the world. They will do this massively if they see the political will and infrastructures being laid down in Ala-Igbo.*
_If that happens, everybody will protect Igbo land._ *Biafra will grow from within.* Let Nnamdi Kanu, all Igbo leaders and thinkers read this and run with it.

***I'm sending this to you so you can spread it to Ndigbo who are amongst your contacts so that this consciousness can spread and be built on. *Lets develop Ala-Igbo from within.*
Ka Chi Ukwu nọ n'Igwè n'édu ànyị n'Uwa gọzìè òkwuà kàà o wéé mézùò. *Yàméénù*.

NCDC CONFIRMS OMICRON VARIANT IN NIGERIA:

THE NIGERIA CENTRE FOR DISEASE CONTROL (NCDC), HAS CONFIRMED THREE CASES OF OMICRON VARIANT IN NIGERIA. THE CASES IT SAYS ARE LINKED TO PASSENGERS FROM SOUTH AFRICA.

A STATEMENT BY THE NCDC DIRECTOR GENERAL, DR. IFEDAYO ADETIFA EXPLAINS THAT THE CASES WERE DISCOVERED THROUGH THE GENOMIC SEQUENCING OF SAMPLES FROM THE ROUTINE TRAVEL TESTS REQUIRED FOR ALL INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLERS CARRIED OUT AT THE NCDC REFERENCE LABORATORY IN ABUJA.

IN VIEW OF THE HIGHLY LIKELY INCREASED TRANSMISSIBILITY OF THE OMICRON VARIANT, THE NCDC RECOMMENDS THAT STATES ENCOURAGE THE USE OF THE APPROVED ANTIGEN BASED RAPID DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOR RAPID TESTING OF THE POPULATION IN PUBLIC SETTINGS.
OMICRON VARIANT, A NEW STRAIN OF THE COVID-19 WAS DETECTED IN BOTSWANA AND REPORTED BY SOUTH AFRICA. THIS PROMPTED SOME COUNTRIES TO IMPOSE TRAVEL BAN ON SOUTHERN AFRICAN COUNTRIES.
MEANWHILE, CANADA HAS EXTENDED TRAVEL BAN TO NIGERIA AFTER IT REPORTED THE DISCOVERY OF TWO CASES OF THE OMICRON VARIANT FROM TWO PASSENGERS FROM NIGERIA.

AWOLOWO'S LETTER TO IRONSI FROM PRISON ,1966

Pressing for His Release and That of His Colleagues

(Dated 28th March 1966)

CONFIDENTIAL

To: The Supreme Commander and Head of the Federal Military Government, Lagos.
Thro: The Director of Prisons, Prisons Headquarters Office, Private Mail Bag 12522, Lagos.

Sir:

Prerogative Of Mercy:
Section 101 (1) (A) of the Constitution of The Federation Act 1963

1. I am writing this petition for FREE PARDON under Section 101(1) (a) of the Constitution of the Federation Act 1963, on behalf of myself and some of my colleagues whose names are set out in the Annexe hereto.

2. Before I go further, I would like to stress that the reasons which I advance in support of this petition, in my own behalf, basically hold good for my said colleagues. For they share the same political beliefs with me, and have intense and unquenchable loyalty for the ideals espoused by the Party which I have the honour to lead.

3. There are many grounds which could be submitted for your consideration in support of this petition. But I venture to think that SEVEN of them are enough and it is to these that I confine myself.

(a)In the course of my evidence during my trial, I stated that my Party favoured and was actively working for alliance with the N.C.N.C. as a means, among other things, of solving what I described as ‘the problem of Nigeria’, and strengthening the unity of the Federation. In October 1963 (that is about a month after my conviction and while my appeal to the Supreme Court was still pending), a Peace Committee headed by the Chief Justice of the Federation, Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, made overtures to me through my friend Alhaji W. A. Elias to the effect that if I abandoned my intention to enter into alliance with the N.C.N.C. which, according to the Committee, was an Ibo Organisation, and agreed to dissolve the Action Group and, in co-operation with Chief Akintola (now deceased), form an all-embracing Yoruba political party which I would lead and which would go into alliance with the N.P.C., I would be released from prison before the end of that year. I turned down these terms because I was of the considered opinion that their acceptance would further widen and exacerbate inter-tribal differences, and gravely undermine the unity of the Federation. TODAY, THE MILITARY GOVERNMENT, OF WHICH YOU ARE THE HEAD, LEAVES NO ONE IN ANY DOUBT THAT IT STANDS FOR NIGERIAN UNITY. BUT IT MUST BE EMPHASISED, IN THIS CONNECTION, THAT IF I HAD PRIZED MY PERSONAL FREEDOM ABOVE THE UNITY OF NIGERIA, I WOULD HAVE BEEN SET FREE IN 1963. IN THAT EVENT, THIS PETITION WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN NECESSARY, AND THE WORK OF CONSOLIDATING THE UNITY OF THE COUNTRY TO WHICH YOU AND YOUR COLLEAGUES NOW SET YOUR HANDS MIGHT HAVE BEEN MADE EXTREMELY MORE INTRACTABLE AND IRKSOME. As recently as 20th December, 1965, identical peace terms (the only variant being that the alliance with the N.C.N.C. which was now a reality should be broken) were made to me here, in Calabar Prison, by a delegation representing another Peace Committee headed by the self-same Chief Justice of the Federation and purporting to have the blessing of the Prime Minister, with the unequivocal promise that if I accepted the terms my release would follow almost immediately. I rejected the terms for the reasons which I have outlined above.

(b) One of the monsters which menaced the public life of this country up to 14th January, this year is OPPORTUNISM with its attendant evils of jobbery, venality, corruption, and unabashed self-interest. From all accounts, you are inflexibly resolved to destroy this monster. That was precisely what my colleagues and I had tried to do before we were rendered hors de combat since 29th May, 1962. On two different occasions I was offered, first the post of Deputy Prime Minister (before May 1962), and second that of Deputy Governor-General (in August 1962), if I would agree to fold up the Opposition and join in a National Government. I declined the two offers because they were designed exclusively to gratify my self-interest, with no thought of fostering any political moral principle which could benefit the people of Nigeria. The learned Judge who presided over the Treasonable Felony Trial, commented unfavourably on my non-acceptance of one of these posts and held that my action lent weight to the case of the Prosecution against me. I must say, however, that in all conscience, I felt and still feel that a truly public-spirited person should accept public office not for what he can get for himself — such as the profit and glamour of office — but for the opportunity which it offers him of serving his people to the best of his ability, by promoting their welfare and happiness. To me, the two aforementioned posts were sinecures, and were intended to immobilise my talents and stultify the role of watch-dog which the people of Nigeria looked upon me to play on their behalf, at that juncture in our political evolution.

(c) This leads me to the third ground. From newspaper reports, it would appear that you and your colleagues — like all well-meaning Nigerians are anxious that on the termination of the present military rule, Nigeria should become a flourishing democracy. Now, democracy is a political doctrine which is very intimately dear to my heart.

It was to the end that it might be accepted as a way of life in all parts of the Federation that I campaigned most vigorously and relentlessly in the Northern Provinces of Nigeria, from 1957 to 1962, to the implacable annoyance of some of my political adversaries. It was to the end that this doctrine might survive the severe onslaught of opportunist and mercenary politics that I refused to succumb to the temptation of the National Government. Many views — some of them well-considered and respectable — have been expressed about the value or disvalue of opposition as a feature of public life in a newly emergent African State. Speaking for my party, I submit that the Opposition which I led did, to all intents and purposes, justify its existence and was acclaimed by the masses of our people as essential and indispensable to rapid- national growth.

This was so, because it was unexceptionably constructive. The abrogation of the Anglo-Nigeria Defence Pact was one of the feathers in its cap. Some of the policies which the Government of the day later adopted — such as the creation of a Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the introduction of drastic measures to correct our balance of payments deficit — were among those persistently and constructively urged by the Opposition inside and outside Parliament. The point I wish to emphasise here is that it was not out of spite or hatred for any one that I chose to remain in Opposition instead of joining the much-talked-of National Government. I did so in order to serve our people to the best of my ability in the position in which their votes had placed my Party, and to ensure that the young plant of democracy grows into a sturdy flourishing tree in Nigeria.

(d) Since the declaration of emergency in the Western Region on 29th May,1962, political tension has existed in Western Nigeria. My conviction on 11th September, 1963, together with the surrounding bizarre circumstances, has led not only to the heightening of that tension in Western Nigeria but also to its profuse and irrepressible percolation to the other parts of the Federation. The result is that it can be said, without much fear of contradiction, that today the majority of our people are passionately concerned about and fervently solicitous for the release of myself and my colleagues. The work of reconstruction on which you and your colleagues have embarked demands that all the citizens of Nigeria in their respective callings should give of their maximum best. A state of psychological tension, however much it may be brought under control or repressed, does not and cannot conduce to maximum efficiency. In spite of themselves, people labouring under emotions which this kind of tension automatically generates are bound to make avoidable mistakes which in their turn have adverse effects on national progress. It is, therefore, in the national interest that this tension should be relaxed, if possible, without further delay.

(e) A petition of this kind is, by its very nature, bound to be replete with self-adulation. I hope and trust that, in the circumstances, this is excusable. It is in this hope and trust that I assert that my colleagues and I have the qualifications and capacity to render invaluable services to our people and fatherland. Every day that we spend in prison, therefore, must be regarded as TWENTY-FOUR UNFORGIVING HOURS OF TRULY VALUABLE SERVICES LOST TO OUR YOUNG COUNTRY. Even my most inveterate enemies have given the following testimony about me: ‘AWOLOWO HAS STILL A GREAT DEAL TO GIVE TO THIS COUNTRY.’ No country however advanced and civilized can afford to waste any of its talents, be they ever so small. Nigeria is too young to bury some of her talents as she was compelled to do under the old regime. It is within your power to restore my colleagues and me to a position where our fatherland can again rejoice at the contributions which we are capable of making to its progress, welfare and happiness.

(f) Nigeria is now SIXTY-SIX MONTHS old as an independent State. The final phase in the struggle for Nigeria’s independence was initiated by my Party in the historic Self-Government motion moved by Chief Anthony Enahoro and supported by me on 31st March, 1953. IT SHOULD BE REGARDED AS MORE THAN IRONICAL, AND AS PALPABLY TRAGIC, THAT TWO OF THE ARCHITECTS OF THAT INDEPENDENCE AND, INDEED, THE PACE-SETTERS AND ACCELERATORS OF ITS FINAL PHASE SHOULD BE UNFREE IN A FREE NIGERIA. In precise terms, I have spent FORTY-SIX out of the SIXTY-SIX MONTHS of independence in one form of confinement or another. I happened to know that the leaders of the old civilian regime, in spite of themselves, did not feel quite easy in their conscience about the plight into which they had manoeuvred me in the scheme of things; and I dare to express the hope and belief that you, personally view my present confinement with concern and disapproval.

(g) It is usual — almost invariably the case — on the accession of a revolutionary regime, for political prisoners and, indeed, other prisoners of some note, to be released as a mark of disapproval of some of the doings of the old regime, or in token of the new dawn of freedom which comes in the wake of the new regime. It would be invidious to quote unspecific instances. But in the case of my colleagues and myself, by courageously and adamantly opposing the evils which your regime now denounces in the former civilian administration, I think we are perfectly justified if we expect you to regard us as being in tune with your yearnings and aspirations for Nigeria, and therefore entitled to our personal freedoms under your dispensation.

4. In view of the foregoing reasons which clearly demonstrate:

(i) that I have always and, under trying circumstances, steadfastly and unyieldingly
(a) stood for the UNITY OF NIGERIA,
(b)been opposed to POLITICAL OPPORTUNISM with its attendant evils, (c)fostered the growth of DEMOCRACY in Nigeria;

(ii) that my incarceration:
(a) has led to the heightening of political tension among Nigerians, which tension can only be relaxed by my release, (b)has deprived our fatherland of invaluable services such as we have rendered before, and can still render now and in future, in greater measure; and

(iii) that the evils which my colleagues and I condemned and valiantly refused to compromise with in the old civilian government are what you now quite rightly denounce, and are taking active steps to remove in order to pave the way for national and beneficial reconstruction, I most sincerely appeal to you to be good enough to exercise, in favour of myself and my colleagues, the prerogative of mercy vested in you by Section 10 (I) (i) (a) of the Constitution of the Federation Act 1963, by granting me as well as each of my colleagues A FREE PARDON. If you do, your action will be most warmly, heartily, and popularly applauded at home and abroad, and you will go down to history as soldier, statesmen, and humanitarian.

Yours truly,

OBAFEMI AWOLOWO.
