THE MESSTHETICS & JAMES BRANDON LEWIS
Where to start; an incendiary and forward looking band with a line up of incredible and legendary musicians.
Formed in 2018, Joe Lally and Brendan Canty (of Fugazi) joined forces with experimental / jazz guitarist Anthony Pirog. They released two full length LPs via Dischord in 2018 & 19.
After a couple of live performances with James Brandon Lewis on saxophone they decided to record something together and released their most recent LP on ¡Impulse!
Joe and Brendan for the most part bring a steady rhythmic bedrock for Anthony's rich guitar approach drawing freely on jazz, punk and everything in between. James brings another dimension and more interplay to it all. Although this line up is comparatively new it's foundations are on long-standing musical relationships. James and Anthony met around a decade ago at a session led by free-jazz drummer William Ho**er and instantly hit it off, going on to work together extensively in Lewis’ own groups. A pairing which by their own admission worked from the very start. Joe and Brendan have played together since the late 80's in Fugazi and in my opinion, one of the greatest rhythm sections of all time. Not everyday you get to see something this solid, intuitive and free.
They toured the UK in 2019 (seems like a maximum of 3 years ago to me - COVID for you) and were fantastic. It's great they've decided to come back.

HOLODRUM
Strong game synth-pop disco post punk supergroup from Leeds / Sowerby Bridge who released their debut album on Gr**go. Much like the headliners, it's folk who have been involved in so many solid projects - Cowtown, Hookworms, James Holden plus loads more. 1st time in Notts!
