'Air Superiority'
As yesterday's opportunity to capture wildlife on camera was coming to an end with little to show for it, I ended up getting three separate events on film, all from the same location in the timeframe of about 20 minutes! Firstly a Male Yellowhammer (currently red listed by the RSPB), then a Kestrel hunting, and somewhat surprisingly finished with an Apache Gunship making a pass overhead!
Location: Berkshire Countryside
Male Yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella)
Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus)
Apache AH Mk 1 (You can just about see the M230 30mm Cannon on the front underside)
'Afternoon Dust Bath'
Here's the Kestrel (I believe) that I was monitoring earlier today. Not the footage I was aiming for, but a good start. The video has been cropped from 4k to 720p, as I was quite some distance away, and the heat haze is quite strong which isin't helping. But you can see it engaging in an afternoon dust bath (also known as dusting or sand bathing). This is part of its preening or plumage maintenance, keeping it's feathers in good condition.
My first Kestrel footage too :)
