From Issue 5 - The 718 Boxster S is to many the ideal sports car.
Some may say it satisfies Ferry Porsche's vision to build “a small, lightweight sports car that uses energy efficiently”, even more than the 911.
Two seats, a low, mid-mounted engine, well balanced weight distribution, with a blend of performance and efficiency in the form of a turbo, 4-cylinder engine. Could Ferry’s statement describe the 718 Boxster S more succinctly?

The design of the Porsche 914 was so groundbreaking, yet was very much derived from the history of the brand
–
Michael Mauer explains:
The idea came from Porsche. Ferry Porsche wanted an entry-level Porsche that would give young drivers inexpensive access to the world of Porsche. This alone makes the 914 a typical Porsche. Because he was trying something new. Because the heart of the car, the engine, is mid-mounted. And because the form follows the function. The 914 is typically Porsche, even though it doesn’t look like it at first glance.

Rise with the sun - Introducing the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. This model comes in Algarve Blue with satin Neodyme gold 22-inch GT Design wheels and features the GT interior package, complete with contrast stitching in Deep Sea Blue.
Under the hood, you'll find a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine that delivers a powerful 485 kW/659 PS, propelling the Cayenne Turbo GT from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 305 km/h. This impressive performance is thanks to the V8 twin-turbo engine's 850 Nm of torque, working in tandem with the 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission and specially balanced chassis systems. Together, they ensure the Cayenne Turbo GT lives up to its GT nameplate.
More to follow.

This beautiful and RARE, 993 911 Turbo S featured in edition 17 of Duck&Whale magazine. Back issues available.
Constructed with exceptional attention to detail by Porsche’s Exclusive Department, the Turbo S was priced 50% higher than the 993 Turbo when new and worldwide production totalled just 345 cars, 26 of which were produced in RHD with only 15 cars reaching Australian shores. It was truly an enormous step up in performance, looks, exclusivity and, inevitably, price over the standard 911 Turbo.

Carrera GT - A rare competition prepared Porsche 356
In 1959, the most potent and motorsport-focused Porsche 356 Coupe that you could buy was the 356 Carrera GT.
The silver 1959 356A 1600 GT Coupe before you is one of just three right hand drive examples built by the factory and is a magnificent original example of one of the most desirable of all 356 Coupes, with all matching numbers and a fully-documented local history.
The car was purchased new in 1959 to special order by Bacchus Marsh farmer David Calvert who was captivated by the Carrera GT from the moment it was released. His right hand drive Field Green Coupe was delivered through the Australian agents Norman Hamilton & Co.
Keen to explore its legendary performance, he lent the Carrera GT to then-leading race and trials driver Harry Firth to run at Melbourne’s Sandown Park in the early 1960’s but was forced to retire with a dropped valve. Firth pulled the engine apart and found that the problem had been caused by corrosion from water sucked through the carburettor trumpets. Having no experience with Porsche quad cam engines, he negotiated the sale of the car with the engine apart to race engineer Jack Godbehear, who had previously maintained Australia’s only 550 Spyder.
After it was rebuilt, the car was exchanged for a seal grey 356B Super 90 owned by Sydney enthusiast John ‘Jumbo’ Goddard, who immediately repainted the Carrera silver. The colour it remains today.
When Goddard died in the 1980s, the car was no longer in going order and after being purchased from his estate, it lay idle for some years with its engine out, gathering dust... (Sorry but we're out of space) - Full story in Duck & Whale Issue 6

Probably the most frequently asked question in the entire car world
as a whole has to be “So… what's under the hood?” And in the world of cars, there would be very few instances where such a question can be answered as unbelievably, and with as much passion and commitment to excellence and innovation, as it is in the case of Ron Goodman’s latest creation.
Ron Goodman of Exclusive Bodywerks:
“We wanted to build something completely different but that would clearly still carry the DNA of the original Porsche. At the same time, as proud Aussies, we wanted to showcase what can be done …no, what is being done in this part of the world. The ‘can do’ attitude and belief that so many people down here in Australia demonstrate, so often and in so many ways.”
“The people from Bespoke Engineering contacted me and said they were building this three cylinder radial engine. It was being made in Australia and that it had enormous design, packaging and performance advantages over other engine configurations. When we saw it we agreed, we struck up a deal and from that point on the car came to be referred to as the ‘Aero car’.”

Fashioned for the Le Mans Classic, this 914/6 GT is now being campaigned by its pit crew. The Porsche 914/6 GT Marathon de la Route tribute features in Issue 16, subscribe and receive it as your first edition. Read the story of how this 914/6 GT was conceived by Tim Abbot of Abbot Cars, independent Porsche specialist in South Africa, to the extremely stringent standards of the Le Mans Classic, and its life thereafter. Tim Abbot recalls the The Kyalami 9-Hour Retro race in the Team Abbot 914/6 GT. “We were in the thick of it, jockeying for position among a crowded field, I remember the Lolas and Ford GT 40s just swooping past. The rain making the old Kyalami circuit even more challenging, but we managed to stick to our semi-slick tyres to maintain the speed advantage. There were some hairy moments! I recall doing a pirouette just after ‘Club House’, once the back end goes on a 914 there is no catching it, fortunately I lived to tell the tale. In the end we won our class on index, largely due to the fuel efficiency of the 914/6 GT, which meant far fewer pit stops,” Tim enthuses. See the full story in Issue 16.
