New paper alert! Using Sub-Bottom Profiling and Drop-Down Video we measured horse mussel sediment thickness and detailed correlations with abiotic factors and horse mussel habitat cover. Average horse mussel sediment thickness was 1.37m; this is nearly double the horse mussel sediment thickness used in research to date.

Horse mussel beds are listed as a Priority Marine Feature (PMF) in Scotland for their influence in the creation of diverse benthic communities and provision of ecosystem services. In Scotland, horse mussel beds are also recognised for their importance in marine carbon sequestration. Unfortunately, t...

New paper alert! Using Sub-Bottom Profiling and Drop-Down Video we measured maerl sediment thickness and detailed correlations with abiotic factors and maerl habitat cover. Average maerl sediment thickness was 1.08m. Click here to learn more!

Maerl beds are listed as a priority marine feature in Scotland. They are noted for creating suitable benthic habitat for diverse communities of fauna and flora and in supporting a wide array of ecosystem services. Within the context of climate change, they are also recognised as a potential blue car...

Cetaceans provide a range of ecosystem services of value to anthropogenic interests. Following the Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services (CICES) these are categorised as regulation and maintenance, provisioning, and cultural values. This study focuses on those of importance to cl...
