Attention J1 listeners: Sometime during this weekend, May 4~5, 2024, there will be a network outage that may result in your favorite J1 station running with no programming or running a backup program. Once the network issues are resolved, everything will be back up and running. Barring any complications, we expect the outage to last about one hour on streaming. For J1HD, those listening on HD Radio may experience a longer outage of up to 24 hours if there are complications, but we expect the FM outage time to match the streaming outage time. Thank you for listening to J1.

At 16:10 JST (02:10 EST/23:10 PST), a major earthquake has hit western Japan. The epicenter was in northern Ishikawa prefecture on the Noto Peninsula, measuring M7.6 on the Richter scale with a peak intensity of 7 out of 7 on the Japanese intensity scale. Tsunami warnings and advisories were issued along the entire western coast of Japan. There have been several aftershocks of M5 or greater. The M7.6 was preceded by two foreshocks at 16:06 and 16:18 registering M5.7 & 6.1 with a peak intensity of 5 upper. NHK reported that waves reached Wajima Port on the Noto Peninsula at 1.2 meters. The Japan Times reports that waves reached 80cm reached Toyama prefecture at 16:35 JST. As of 18:30 JST, the warnings remain in effect. NHK has reported on building collapses in Ishikawa prefecture. The quake was felt in Tokyo as buildings shook. Japan Today reports that the Nuclear Regulation Agency has reported no irregularities have been confirmed at any power plants along the Sea of Japan. The two reactors at Hokoriku Shika, the closest to the epicenter had already been halted for routine inspection and saw no impact from the earthquake. Sharing bandwidth with J1HD is the revival of a Southern California radio station I grew up listening to. Look for The Mighty 690 on 99.1 HD2 at times and soon full time on HD4, serving Malibu and LAs western facing beaches.

Malibu was always a special place for the Mighty 690. Why? Malibu is shielded by the hills which kill most of LA stations. In the early 80’s if you wanted music on the radio, the Mighty 690 was the station for Malibu. That’s why this announcement is extra special for us. Starting sometime on Sunday we will be available in the Malibu area if you have an HD radio. 99.1 HD2 & HD4

If you have friends in the area, please let them know.

The tentative broadcast schedule will be:

99.1 HD2
Monday-Friday
12AM-7AM & 2PM-Midnight
Saturday/Sunday
12AM-7AM 10AM-Midnight

Online streaming stays the same.

Good morning from J1 Radio! This is an update on 107.9 FM in Moorpark, CA.

The FCC has approved the transfer of the radio station license from a religious broadcaster to Moorpark College. J1HD had been running on 107.9 in Moorpark as a "placeholder" while the transfer was in progress. With the transfer approved, there is a final step that the parties need to do. At some point after this, J1HD will no longer be available on 107.9 FM. We are working on a plan to transition the programming out. Once the transition is complete, the 107.9 signal will be carrying student and other programming from the college.

Listeners to 107.9 may continue listening to J1HD at j1hd.com, the official J1 Radio mobile app powered by Aiir, the official J1 Radio Roku channel, through Alexa ("Alexa, play the station J1HD") and through other third party media players and apps.

J1HD will continue to broadcast on the radio to Malibu and LA's western facing beach cities on 99.1 HD3 via KBUU-LP.

We expect the transition of 107.9 to take place in early May. We will post again once we know when that is about to take place.

To anyone who listened to J1 on 107.9, thank you for listening and welcome to the world of Japanese popular music. We hope you enjoyed the ride.

Greetings from J1 Radio! Two updates.
First, for our mobile listeners using iOS, we have updated to Aiir's newest version. This new version supports Apple CarPlay. Set us up and enjoy J1 on the go!

There will be no presentation of the J1 Top 40 Countdown on J1 Hits or J1 HD on the weekends of April 15~16 and April 22~23. A chart will still be compiled and published for those two weeks. The J1 Top 40 Countdown will return to J1HITS and J1HD on April 29 at their normal scheduled times.

Thanks again for listening to J1. Enjoy the music! Enjoy Japan!

On February 13, 2023, Twitter will be making many major changes for those who develop on the platform. This will have some impacts on various services provided by J1 Radio. It will not stop the music, but it may affect what else you see and hear at J1 Radio.
