Sooo... Many of you might ask, "Why doesn't your website work anymore, and why can't I listen to your old podcasts?"
Well, it turns out it's primarily because of my own stupidity.
Allow me to explain. I've been podcasting, minus this recent stretch of inactivity, since 2015. I love podcasting, recording, and making "content" in the parlance of our time as much as I love the content I typically cover. Unfortunately, I am not an expert at internetting. I've learned everything I know about the behind-the-scenes aspects of podcasting, hosting, domains, uploading, and all that other stuff through trial and error. All this is to say, there are severe gaps in my knowledge behind the curtain.
About 4ish months ago, my wife and I had our first baby. While I last posted new content over a year ago, I still paid for website hosting and various domains (twodten.com, utilitymuffinlabs.com, and others). With no money coming in from podcasts or YouTube, I chose to stop paying for all of it and use that money on the baby. I assumed it would be simple enough to "resubscribe" and get everything back up and running.
Yeah, here's how dumb I am. Did you know that if you stop paying for your domain, someone else can just purchase it? Yeah? I didn't.
If you aren't paying for your domain, someone else can swoop in and buy it. Plus, they can make it real damn expensive, too.
Yes, my website is down because I no longer own the domains, and whoever bought them wants way more money than I have or would be willing to pay if I did.
How much? Well, Utilitymuffinlabs.com is going for about $300. It's pretty expensive, but that's the cheap domain.
Twodten.com? I don't even feel right typing out what that one's going for. Just check out the picture below.
To be clear, this isn't a call to action. I fu**ed up, and I just had to share my giant face-slap moment with all of you. If nothing else, you might get a good laugh out of my dumb mistake.
Long story short, I will bring my website and podcasts back, but it'll likely be under a new domain. Once I get all that figured out, I'll let everyone know. Until then, remember, don't let your domains expire. They're worth more than you know! Derp.
