Four GOP women’s groups from across Alaska warned they would not support any Republican who voted to overturn the governor’s veto and would work against their reelection. Despite the warning, RINOs staked their political future on supporting an extravagant Democrat spending bill.

On May 19, four Republican women’s groups from around the state warned they would not support any Republican who voted to overturn the governor’s veto and would work against their reelection.

The canvass board will meet on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Palmer City Council Chambers to verify and tally questioned and special needs ballots.

The special election to recall Palmer Mayor Steve Carrington is razor tight. As of election night there were 99 votes to recall him and 97 to retain.

By blocking the resolution, the Senate majority has caused what will be “the loss of thousands of good paying jobs including union workers, billions of dollars of investment into Alaska, and decades of economic growth,” the GOP minority stated. “These rail lines are the lynchpins for numerous statewide economic development projects”

The May 20 override required 40 of 60 legislators to succeed. The final tally was 46-14, which means Alaska will spend an extra $700 per-student next year, growing the budget by an estimated $185 million amid declining oil prices, a shrinking PFD and a looming fiscal crisis.

Schools will now see a massive influx in funds this coming year, despite the fact that, for years, Alaska’s students have had some of the very worst educational outcomes in the nation.

In a May 19 press conference announcing his veto, Dunleavy said he believes the funding bill was negotiated in bad faith – pumping record-setting funds into a school system that produces some of the worst student outcomes in the nation.

In vetoing the education bill crafted by the Democrat-led majorities in the Alaska Legislature, Gov. Mike Dunleavy said the flawed legislation did not address Alaska’s disastrous educational outcomes but simply sought to spend more money.

MICHAEL TAVOLIERO: "This is not just laziness. It is a systemic betrayal. When you are elected to serve the people but act on behalf of those who funded your campaign, you are no longer simply incompetent. You are participating in a moral inversion. You are facilitating harm through negligence and cloaking it in the procedural rituals of democracy."

Instead of engaging deeply with the challenges facing their districts, our legislators are rubber-stamping prepackaged bills crafted by lobbyists, political action committees, national nonprofits, and public-sector unions.

Of the few attendees who were allowed to speak during the Anchorage Mayor's townhall, many complained of ongoing theft, trespassing, human f***s being dumped into the streams, filthy and sprawling homeless encampments that have taken over once-beloved city parks, and guns being brandished in their store.

Anchorage’s homeless crisis is not new, but it has grown noticeably worse under the hard-leftist management of the Anchorage Assembly – which for many years included now-Mayor Suzanne LaFrance.

REP. MCCABE: "Truth is, the sky is not falling, and the answer isn’t ending our oil and gas economy. The solution is doubling down on smart, energy-driven adaptation, something we Alaskans know how to do."

Alaska needs the freedom to use our own resources and the determination to invest in real-world solutions. The kind of solutions that come from access to abundant and affordable energy…

MICHAEL TAVOLIERO: "The next governor must come ready for war — against apathy, against inertia, against the bureaucratic rot that steals Alaska’s future, and a Legislature riddled with RINOs who repeatedly hand power to the Left and its enforcers: the union cabal and its media lackeys."

President Donald J. Trump taught a brutal but necessary lesson to anyone serious about becoming Alaska’s next governor: If you aren’t fully armed with your team, your playbook, and your orders before…

Alaska's Board of Medicine has already unanimously adopted a statement urging the Alaska Legislature to stop chemical and surgical mutilation of minors. But, because of the Democrat-controlled House and Senate, no action is likely to take place.

This past week, Live Action released a troubling undercover report: Planned Parenthood clinics across the country are fast-tracking vulnerable minors into receiving cross-sex hormones…

CAROLINA GRAVER: "A good leader should be able to take ownership of their mistakes, apologize and learn from them. It is for this and the above reasons that I will be voting in favor of recalling Mayor Carrington."

My greatest concern is that Mayor Carrington has yet to even acknowledge or express regret for hiring Mr. Jellie or for what his actions caused. He has instead placed guilt in every other area.

Our Mission: Why we exist

Alaskans increasingly struggle with cultural forces that undermine the sanctity of human life, marriage and religious liberties. Additionally Alaska families face challenges to parental rights, limits on educational choices and an aggressive promotion of harmful sexual ideologies to our youth.

Given that most societal changes begin on the grassroots level, Alaska Watchman is a unique, professional news platform that accurately reports on local political bodies, public organizations and influential cultural groups. We provide public accountability, highlight positive efforts and equip Alaskans with information they can use to make a difference in our communities.
