One of my favorite things to do is to use the "similar artists" section to discover lesser known bands. I know we have things like Spotify to discover bands, but I will always love last.fm. Even though I don't use their radio feature anyone, I love how it keeps track of everything I listen to.

I went to the Crime In Stereo's "similar artists" section and found a hardcore band from Long Island, New York called Regulate. I'm hyped on them. They have positive, uplifting lyrics without being corny or forced. Everything about this is top-notch imo. I love the production as well.

A while back, I talked to my good friend, Brett from the band, POOR ME about our mutual love for Crime In Stereo. I joked that it’s “like hardcore because there’s screaming and stuff but it’s organized enough that you can tell that they attended college or whatever.”

This is not a dig at people who didn’t go to college. I didn’t finish college. It wasn't for me. However, this was an off-hand comment I made when we were trying to describe their music. I said that they pretty much encapsulate everything I love about hardcore because of how layered and powerful their songs are.

Because of these attributes, I coined them as a “LaurenxCore” band. I took it a step further and made a Spotify playlist of tons of my favorite songs within punk and hardcore. I update it regularly and have an automatic shuffler that changes the song order in the playlist. It always stays fresh. That way you’re not stuck listening to the same song over again. Spotify’s shuffle feature is lackluster at best. I use a different site for that.

This started as a joke between friends, but it turned into something bigger. I actually like updating this playlist and showing Brett, one of the coolest guys around, some of my favorite music.
