It’s First Foods Friday!
These are the traditional foods written in the Yakama language that have been harvested and eaten by Native Americans for thousands of years.

The relationship between indigenous peoples and first foods is reciprocal. First foods serve the people by providing cultural and physical health, and the indigenous communities reciprocate by maintaining the health of first foods.

In many tribes’ creation stories, the salmon were the first animals to volunteer themselves as sacrifice for the tribal people to eat. Then came the game -- elk, deer and so on. Then the roots and berries -- camas root, wapato, etc. In exchange, the tribes must steward their continued existence.

Hey Hot Springs! Are you looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend your summer weekends? Why not volunteer at the local history museum and learn more about our town’s rich heritage? 🏛️

This Wishlist Wednesday, the museum is looking for volunteers to help out with greeting visitors, answering questions, and keeping the place tidy. You can enjoy some peace and quiet while learning new things. You can also bring a friend along and make it a social activity. It’s a great way to get involved and give back to your community this summer.

Shifts are from 12-4 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You can sign up for shifts at the Main Street Liquor store, where you can also pick up your keys for the day you volunteer. If you volunteer on a Sunday, a board member will let you in.

If you’re interested, please sign up soon as spots are filling up fast. Thank you for your support and we hope to see you at the museum soon! 🙏
