BIG NEWS!! Kristen’s publisher, Hawthorne Books has merged with the incredible publishers, Catapult-Counterpoint Press-Soft Skull Press 🙌 Congratulations to, Rhonda Hughes, publisher and executive editor at Hawthorne, who founded the literary press in 2001, published talented authors like Lidia Yuknavitch, Poe Balentine, Sidney Morrison, Frank Meeink and Jody Roy and took a chance on an unknown author like me. I’m so excited to be a part of the Catapult team! 📚

With the acquisition, the Portland, Ore–based indie publisher will become Catapult’s fourth imprint. Founder Rhonda Hughes will continue to acquire new books for Hawthorne, whose backlist includes around 50 titles.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that came out Saturday to our event at A.M.P. Gallery! We shared about kindness, love and building community + showed two new videos about our adventures in Eastern Europe and Africa. We hope it inspires you to live the path that is true to yourselves, to be in the spaces that are difficult and challenging because it promotes growth and community building and to plan less to accomplish more! Thank you, Louis and Joy, for hosting us at A.M.P. (Art - Music - Poetry) Gallery and if you haven’t checked it out yet, you need to. It is a true space to gather, learn, share and connect. ❤️

If you are looking for signed books of ‘Joy Ride’ head into Powell's Books, Inc., pick up some copies and support your local indie bookstores!

🙌 Portland Peeps! Come see us tomorrow, Sat. Dec.13th, 1-3pm at A.M.P. Gallery where we will share stories from our global travels, show two videos from Eastern Europe and Africa followed by a heated Q&A. Bring friends, share the love and hope to see you there! 🚴🏽‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Join us for two hours of inspiration, storytelling, and global community as we visit A.M.P. Gallery to share the extraordinary journey behind Kristen’s book, Joy Ride: A Bike Odyssey from Alaska to Argentina’

What began as a simple idea—two people, two bikes, and the open road—transformed into a life-changing, 30,000+ mile odyssey across the globe. With no long-distance cycling experience, we pushed through relentless storms, altitude sickness, dog encounters, crashes, and countless flat tires. But the heart of our story isn’t the hardship—it’s the humanity.

Along the way, we were welcomed into homes, celebrations, kitchens, classrooms, and communities. We held babies, joined quinceañeras, played soccer with kids in village streets, drank pulque with new friends, and experienced generosity that reminded us that kindness is universal.

What to Expect-
A powerful, engaging talk from us about our journey
Readings and reflections from Joy Ride
Behind-the-scenes stories not found in the book
Audience Q&A
Book signing & meet-and-greet
A warm, community-centered A.M.P. Gallery atmosphere

Why You Should Attend-
In a time when division is loud, our story is a reminder that connection is stronger. Our journey reveals what’s possible when we lead with openness, curiosity, and kindness.

A powerful journey of love, kindness, and humanity—Kristen & Ville share lessons from cycling 18,000 miles across the Americas.

Join us for two hours of inspiration, storytelling, and global community as world travelers and authors Kristen and Ville Jokinen visit A.M.P. Gallery to share the extraordinary journey behind their book, Joy Ride: A Bike Odyssey from Alaska to Argentina.

What began as a simple idea—two people, two bikes, and the open road—transformed into a life-changing, 18,000-mile odyssey from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to Ushuaia, Argentina. With no long-distance cycling experience, Kristen and Ville pushed through relentless storms, altitude sickness, dog encounters, crashes, and countless flat tires. But the heart of their story isn’t the hardship—it’s the humanity.

Along the way, they were welcomed into homes, celebrations, kitchens, classrooms, and communities. They held babies, joined quinceañeras, played soccer with kids in village streets, drank pulque with new friends, and experienced generosity that reminded them—and now reminds us—that kindness is universal.

Kristen and Ville are love on wheels.
This event invites you into their world.
