In July 2009 the Daily Telegraph revealed that Jeffery Donaldson had submitted 68 receipts related to films in 2004-5. He later apologised for claiming back the cost of hotel pay-per-view films on his parliamentary expenses, repaying more than £660 to the Commons' fees office. At the time he was reported as saying he regretted innuendo in some media that the films could have been pornographic in nature and denied the rumour.

This apparently trivial piece of information is included in today’s BBC blog story; Sir Jeffrey Donaldson: Who is the former DUP leader?

Surely this raises the question was Donaldson indeed watching more than old John Wayne westerns and subsequently compromised for doing so.

A plausible explanation for the one-time hardliner’s volte-face on the Windsor Framework, returning to Stormont and thereby playing second fiddle to Sinn Fein?

If so, it must raise the question; who the hell is really running the show.

On Tuesday 5 March 1867, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (the Fenian Movement) published a Proclamation Of The Irish Republic, prior to attempting the overthrow of British rule in Ireland. This document is now an item of historic interest albeit with some obvious current relevance.
